  • Temple Mall has seen better days, suffering from maintenance issues, as well as failing to match competition surrounding it. I doubt this mall will be much longer for this world.

It’s quite sad seeing this mall go from a colorful/wonderful place as a kid to a complete abandoned ghost town. I grew up in Temple up until I was 8, and even then despite all of the new buildings and location changes, it still kinda retains that emptiness feeling, especially in Downtown Temple near the library.. 😔
The Tilt arcade in the mall was also lit, I remember playing the shit outta everything in there, even getting a few South Park and Fruit Ninja plushies there.

I like that it has different levels. I like the ramps and steps.

They're not bad. Me too I always like to comment on these types of things as well. Good comment.😊

It's fun exploring malls with a lot of ramps and steps with little kids, as they can become fascinated with them!

I think this is so interesting, to see an outsiders POV of our mall. Only being 28, i vividly remember going to this mall and being dropped off and spending the whole day at the mall. The movie theater was a HUGE profit for the mall, but once two other movie theaters built in Temple and Belton no one gravitated to the one in the mall. The food court used to be the spot for lunch too! Chickfila at one point and a Chinese restaurant and American cuisines. Book stores, game stores, and even name brand stores like Pac Sun, Hot topic, and foot locker. Its sad to see the mall in the state that its in.
There has been multiple rumors of rebuilding and new stores coming in. I highly doubt it. i think it needs to be bulldozed and remade into something else. The few stores that it has need to move to a different location. With it not being on I-35, it will close within the next 5-10 years.

Sad that its become this empty shell of a mall. I used to work at a couple of places within its walls most notably Foot Action and the yet remaining Casa Ole. Was a regular part of my teen years during the 1980s.

I'm sorry to see this place go downhill too. I didn't grow up with this mall, and only visited it a few times years ago, but it's nice to know it's there. I hope I can go explore it before it closes down, if it ever does.

I used to work at Journeys in the 2000's. The mall was slow even then.

Temple Mall is just not needed anymore. Waco and Killeen have the big retail districts.

That might be true, but it's still cool just knowing the mall is there...

Anyone remember the big clock in the floor? The glass over it was probably a minimum of 1 to 2 inches thick and perfectly flush with the floor so people wouldn't trip. There was also a wall made up of rocks, mostly mica. We would peel thin layers of the rocks off, we were just dumb kids in the 70s. Cool video, thanks for sharing. 😅👍

There used to be more things in the mall before I moved there. Now I go in there, and it's just nothing. Xtreme jump is basically what's keeping that place open

I like Amazon and all. But if I had the choice, I would love to bring malls back. Buying jeans is an absolute nightmare in person- but practically impossible online! I need to try them on. Buying them online- not fitting, taking them somewhere to return, going back online, buying more- process repeats . I will never buy pants online again. I miss malls.

Even though I shop online, I still love to go to the mall. I really enjoy visiting malls in small Texas towns. I went to Bryan college station a couple of years ago and saw they had mall there. I didn't get a chance to go inside but I definitely want to go back and visit.

Clearly struggling… how strange are the various ground levels ? The centre court is low then the wings are up stairs and ramps ….there is a lot of empty space to fill…😢

My mother would drive my sister and I to Temple Mall on weekends when we used to live in the Temple then Troy area in the 80s. She loved shopping at the LERNERS store. My sister and I took a nostalgic trip to Troy from Houston about 6 or 7 years ago to see the old neighborhood we used to live in and visit the old original Troy school we used to go to from the 5th to 9th grades before it was torn down and then went to Temple Mall and had lunch at the Casa Ole restaurant. The mall seems so small to me now than it was in the '80s. I miss the 80s! ❤

They should incentivize small shops to move in with cheaper rent. Like gameXchange, game stop, Maggie moose, mom n pop restaurants, and even think about having an indoor flea market. It’s working for the old mall in San Antonio

This mall is just ok. I like the food court area and I think the black arches with the pattern inside is really pretty. Despite the Dillard's military practice grenade story, that fortunately ended on a good note, I hope something like this never happens again and this mall finds a way to keep going. Good upload D.G. as always.🙂💚

As a lifelong Texas citizen, this mall i would be surprised if it lasts another year, a lot of shops closed and not much to collect now
