    Truck has been in the shop for TWO weeks so far... I've got a lot of stuff to fill you guys in on after I get it back. Who wants to see this polisher get fully stripped down and compared to a higher end model?

      the speed dial has the numbers 1 2 3 etc but it paint it and if you use it it should wear off.time is 9 am got 10 likes

      I can't imagine it would have taken many more resources to improve the quality of the speed dial while still keeping the price of the machine lower and budget friendly.

      If you have some polyurethane around, just coating them with that would prevent the numbers from wearing off the dial.

      Can you also add a video showing how to replace the ball bearing with a higher quality one as that is the next step in improving the capabilities of this Bauer polisher. Also specify where you purchased the ball bearing and which one to look for.

    This version has mor amps, starts up smoother and love the fact that it comes ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfzbDkCRyv3CFXnLZI4APZtRRuG2uRmP2 with two types of handles(both scratchproof) and a Velcro 7 inch disk. My boat and cars look like new again ! Love Dewalt tools because they seem to last a while and AMAZON for the great prices ! Update 07/14/2021I still have and use this polisher very often on my boat, truck and cars but recently I refurbished some stained, dull kitchen granite countertop(stain removal took two months) polished with a white hogs hair polishing pad and MB20, wow ! Polished up like glass and looks better than new. The sealer took two days then some tenax granite wax . I can’t believe how nice this all went. I also polished the travertine tile in my kitchen and dinning room and it too looks like “Vegas”. This dewalt polisher has also cleaned up rust from metal(circular wire brush) and cleaned off stucco for a repair I did on the house. I always purchase the right tool for the job and don’t stick with a certain brand or color(I have Fein , metabo, Bosch …) this dewalt is at the top of the heap fir polishers.

    Just bought this to polish my father’s black car for him as a thank you to letting me use it while mine was somebody work done. Bought a 3 pack of 6” SPTA from Amazon, used my old Meguiars cutting polish followed by Turtle wax ceramic black polish. Car was a disaster as he does nothing to keep his cars cleaned or protected, polisher worked like a champ and received 2 compliments on car before entire car was done. Worth the short money spent and like others at some point I’ll swap grease out but happy with it out pf the box!

    I enjoyed this video. I liked the way you disassembled the tool and replaced the lube inside. Great commentary on the work also. Thanks.

  • @MtnBadger
    @MtnBadger 3 роки тому +6

    The rubber "sleeve" at the basecof the cord, coming out of the tool is a "strain relief" which keeps the cord from being ripped out of the tool and also protects it from fraying, etc.. Strain reliefs put tension on the cord which can also have a knot tied on the inside to help keep it from pulling out.
    It's not the color of the grease but the nomenclature on the package that tells you if it's any good. I've used high impact, bearing grease that's just that color but it was good quality.
    As for the Allen key issue, on all my tools that have them, I tend to zip tie them down somewhere near (about a foot or so) the plug of the cord, for two reasons.
    A, they're less likely to get lost or get in the way as I use the tool as not all tools have a "stow hole."
    B, anytime you work on the tool, it's best to unplug it,, so having to go to the plug to get to it helps remove the "lazy factor" about being safe. I realize that this particular adjustment isn't life threatening but, still... It's a good habit to be in and you'll always know where your tool is. 😀
    As for the trigger lock button, there's a reason these tools work well but cost less than the big names. One thing that makes tools, guns, etc. cost more is fine tuning ergonomics and "secondary engineering," which is the stuff other than making the tool work right.
    The secret to the button is to grab a Dremmel and gently grind a relief into the area that your thumb/finger presses against when you try to lock it in. One of the first things I do if I get a new Glock, plastic framed pistol is carve a relief up behind the trigger guard (you Glock fans know what I'm talking about) and form some more comfortable ergonomic features on different places where it's uncomfortable for me. That's a personal thing for everyone and they didn't spend a bunch of money on things like a detent for the speed control or worrying about your finger so, don't sweat it. You won't hurt the tool or defeat any safety issue, it doesn't take much, just round it off and remove some material making a little notch for better access. And the best part is, you won't void your extended warranty if you carve the thing anyway you want! 😆
    Confession, my wife is a manager of a Harbor Freight and although I fully trust most all of ther upper level tools, I'm not confident in whomever may have assembled and greased them so, if I buy something that gets greased, I'll tear them down and pack them myself just to ease my mind. Confession, I'm a veteran ASE tech and a veteran tool and compressor repair specialist so, I'm more knowledgeable and more OCD than 98% of the people out there. For everyone else, I wouldn't worry about it too much beyond performing any user serviceable maintenance as recommended AND... I'd buy the extended warranty so that when that year's up, no matter the condition of the tool, even if a tank ran over it, you can just go in and get a brand new one. The 30 day standard warranty isn't enough and the extended warranty is so cheap (especially compared to the cost of a new one) thatcit just makes sense. And I'm saying that as that long time mechanic and a tool repair person, not a spouse. 😆
    I used to work for a chain of high end construction tool and suppliers. I know what people can do to tools, it's not pretty. lol. I understand that for a lot of things in life (including a lot of small stuff from HF) that those warranties aren't worth it but, when you can destroy a tool with a sledgehammer one day before the warranty expires and get a brand new one, no questions asked... That's hard to beat. Let's put it this way, even though she works there, especially because she works there... and she gets a discount on everything, she'll buy the warranty herself if I ask her to bring me home a tool for some project I've got. So, take it for what it's worth.
    And I'll make you a deal, if you put the two "Ts" back into the word "button," I'll hit subscribe! 😉
    (I can't find anything marked "buh'un" hehe). 😀

    Good review - nice it has a slow startup feature. I just bought the 5.7A Bauer 6" Polisher sku 64529 for $59 - higher rpm to 6400, and the grease you're seeing is far better than what is mine - it looks like Crisco. Thought I'd pass on a warning though, all the Lithium greases warn of mixing with other lube types. I'm still going to Lithium also, but I'll clean out all the old stuff. But mine has a bad 6" backup plate, 3/16" wobble. I'm considering an exchange before I do the grease job - I might leave indications on the screws getting them out, they are tight and crummy. Probably futile, all the Backup plates on ones in stores now are probably from the same bad production run. I've already got a Lake Country 5" backup plate ordered, anticipating the Bauer one would be bad, so I may not bother.

    I only use this polisher for polishing (the 2nd Stage). I don't use it for compounding boats, only for the polishing & wax stages.

    I really like how u reviewed this. Can you please do one for a torq 10fx? I’m trying to decide between the 2

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined 3 роки тому

      The 10fx is a very good finisher. Smooth and easy to handle. But it's not a long throw or a powerhouse by any means. Great for sanding, fine polishing, applying waxes, sealants etc.. But correction is not where it excels. You can do it, but it's going to be a *lot* more work and go a lot slower than a long throw. If you're a DIY and it's your only polisher and you're using it twice a year, I'd probably go with the Torq, or much better yet, the Maxshine M8S. It's less expensive than the Torq, very well made and surprisingly powerful for a standard throw. Plus you can put a 3" backing plate and pads on either one and effectively polish all areas of a vehicle with one polisher.

      Two different polishers. This is the 20mm long throw, around $90. The 8mm is cheaper, around $60. The 8mm Bauer is a terrible polisher. Horrible build quality, vibrates like crazy. This long throw is a decent polisher. Throw a Maxshine 5" backing plate on it and it's even smoother. I actually like it quite a bit and use it over my other polishers just because I get a kick out of how capable it is for being so cheap.
