I always feel like having a nice cup of tea and as I pull up a chair and sit down to listen to the Counselling Tutor. Thanks for being so approachable.
I love the way the guy on the left explains what the other guy is saying in Real understandable terms. I struggle with interlectuals terminology as not Had the best education so it's refreshing to have such a clever yet grounded Individual who explains it all . Love this guy I've subscribed as I'm doing level 3 Counseling.
@@Counsellingtutor1 Thank you so much for your reply . I hope you realise how brilliant you are at explaining a very complicated subject in such simple and easy to understand terms. Not only has my education been so poor due to travelling around a lot as a child, I also have dyslexia people like you are very hard to find and I thank you as you make counselling therapy accessable for people like me from poor backgrounds with missed learning disabilities have the access to such training and opportunities . Thankyou x
I'm really interested in what effect object relations theory has had on modern day transactional analysis as hinted at in the video? Has it developed into relational TA?
The client in the prison knocking at the walls and crying to be heard: And all day everyday we struggle to communicate from this disengaged position. Who created these walls? Who put me in this prison? Who sent me far away from the family while I was still living within it? Who drew the line in the sand, thus far and no farther? Who said you will not become who you want to become because I will not stand for it? And every other human you meet is counter-transferring upon you and refusing to acknowledge the image of you that you are trying to embody. And then the psycho-experts start throwing around phrases for people to employ as weapons for good or for ill, such as "grandiosity". Oh, so you think you're going to be a musician, huh? Well just get that idea out of your head. You are so full of yourself. What do you think you are, special? Is it grandiose and special to want to be a musician? No. But the abuser made it seem that way. This causes a serious disruption in the normal development. Guilt for wanting to be something that is inscribed upon your nature. It is what you are born to do. But it is forbidden. He cuts the cord on the stereo so you cannot listen to it, because the dishes are not done. A bit extreme. Pulls you out of extra-curriculars, like chorus and the play. This is the prison. Estrangement rather than support from family members and a sense that the land you want to live in is not open to you. Who do you think you are, after all? And in your attempts to regulate , you overcompensate, causing people to react with who do you think you are? And the therapists label you a grandiose narcissist. The odds are against you all the time. But as it has always been for people who are not fitting in, there is always somewhere to go that actually is comfortable. It might not be available at this time, but it is out there if you can find it. The times and places where you are in your own element. There is the healing place. There is where you grow and all the "symptoms" become somewhat alleviated. Ironically, for many many people who suffer from this "imprisoned" sensation, a real prison is where they end up. We must put a stop to this! We can start by changing what the prison is. It can be a place that fosters recovery and growth for most of the people who end up there. I believe it.
Is there an accurate definition of internalization? So far I have yet to read a book where the process is explicitly detailed, especially which perceptions, emotions and maybe [expected] conditionality (sad baby+depressed mother->sad=bad for example) is internalized and in what way.
I struggle to understand this. I am an example person. Would you please use examples in your videos.. eg Jim's mother did this and this is how he uses it but the therapist helped him to with it by doing this in the here-and-now.
They are referring to the character of Jiminy Cricket in Disney’s animated film Pinocchio. It’s a character that sits on Pinocchio’s Shoulder and tries to guide Pinocchio in a positive direction. Another way of thinking about it would be the cartoon representation in Looney Tunes where there’s a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. The devil would be the negative internal object, the critical or angry voice of the inadequate or abusive parental figure that’s been internalized, while the angel would be the healthy internal object voice.
It was a good video but the constant voice clearing and coughing was gross and off putting. I cringed each time there was a voice clearing. So it was hard to concentrate

Thank you. I feel that at last I have started to get a grasp on the concept of object relations theory after watching this talk.
Thanks for simplifying this concept.
