    Something I should have stressed more in the video is that Saddle fit as about the most personal part on the bike, so what works for me doesn't necessarily work for the next person. But I really wanted to give my support to a smaller brand for once... easy to think that it's only the Fiziks, Selle Italias, Specialized that's the options out there.
    Thanks again for watching and if you have any question let me know.

      Then I had to come back and comment on that stunning scenery. Just amaaaazing. So, you have the frame bag and talked about bike packing. When are you going to take us on a multi-day trip with your and your bike into those mountains some more? Have you done some multi-day trips in Japan? Oh, yeah, what's your attitude towards frame protection for the frame bag? Thanks for the awesome vid.

      Due to work... (and youtube to be honest) I have not had the time to go bike packing even once this year :-(
      Hopefully I'll can squeeze something on in the near future... but will most likely be an single over-nighter. God damn work getting in the way!
      Regarding frame protection I use clear frame protection tape at all the attachment points on the frame. (Something like helicopter tape). Better to be safe than sorry as they say.

    Thanks for this recommendation. Bought it and love it (after initial nervousness, so light). One question though, how do you protect against rain? Water projections are directly aligned with saddle hole. Rode only shortly under rain once and shorts were wet immediately. Do you always carry ass-saver in case? Thks. P

    What an exquisitely overdramatised video, btw idk if you put it on off camera but it seems that you did not use some carbon coumpound i would highly recoomed using that so you can reduce the torque need to tighten the saddle, I had specialized carbon saddles that had a snapped rail just trying to stop that from happening to dat berk

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  6 років тому

      RG's Shed good catch!
      But In the case of this old enve clamp, carbon compound does not affect how much you need to torque the single bolt... Instead you use actually use grease on the sliding blocks.
      It’s a very good point you brought up though!
      The saddle is rated to 5nm, but It’s set into account with yoke-type (?) clamps... other clamps like this one you should be able to torque down to the recommended seatpost rating.

    looks great. I'm looking for similar weight/cost level of saddle for my lightweight new build now. as you say, having the ability to test try is the biggest factor. have you done more longish rides since? how does it feel? and, last but most important, do you think I could borrow it for one big ride to check if it'll fit me? I got a bare carbon one but it's been too hard on me after 70-80km so want to go with just light padding next and see what's it like....

    Hi! Great video and great feedback. Right now I own a Fizik Arione R1 Evo with 140mm width. I feel the mid channel is very narrow, hence sometimes is uncomfortable. Do you think the Lupina's shape and canal will make it feel comfortable. I'm thinking od the 140mm Lupina. also considering Gelu or Alpitude saddles. Any advice or comments?
    Thanks for your videos.

      Unfortunately it's impossible for me to give any kind of reliable recommendations when it comes to saddles and how they will "feel" I'm afraid... I'm not a bike fitter either so have no experience of fitting other people than myself.
      Best thing is always to try it out for yourself, I realize it's hard especially with Berk.
      On the other hand, it shouldn't be that hard to sell a saddle of this caliber if it doesn't fit.
      Sorry I can be of more help.

      Digi20 5nm is for a yoke-type Clamp (is yoke what you call it?)

    • @ridesofjapan

      Digi20 these type of clamps have that 5nm limit images.app.goo.gl/JKnbred4wsaRpTF68

    Haha, vilken Hollywood produktion! Sadeln liknar min Selle San Marco Aspide Carbon Superleggera jävligt mycket. Har haft lite problem med rövsmärta (teknisk term) men jag tror jag löst det nu, det visade sig vara positionen av cleatsen och inte sadeln som var problemet. Hoppas verkligen det håller i sig för jag vill verkligen inte behöva byta sadel, den är ju sååååå snygg! 😬

    Strange question, but have you had any issues with the saddle moving or rocking? I have a Lupina on a single-bolt Canyon s27 seatpost, and it's been causing me a bit of grief. The maximum torque for the seatpost clamp is 15Nm, but carbon being carbon, I started out tightening it up to 12. On my first ride, I hit a bump at speed, causing the nose of the saddle to shoot up and almost ... ahem. I tried tightening to 13. Same issue. Now I'm at 14, and I honestly can't tell if the saddle is moving ever so slightly, or if it's just flex. I have some carbon paste in the clamp mounts, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I'm reluctant to go to 15 for fear of hearing that dreaded *snap*. I had a look online, and it seems a few other people with Lupinas on single-bolt clamps have experienced this issue, so I wondered if you've had any problems? Sorry for the rambling post ...

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  5 років тому +1

      Justin Norrie I’ve not had that issue. I have my seatpost clamp set to recommended 9Nm. Sounds more like a seatpost issue rather than saddle issue though? Or did I misunderstand?
      The lupina definitely flexes in the middle of the saddle, but it would not change the angle so to speak.
      I don’t know how that canyon post works but can you somehow put some carbon paste in/around the post/clamp interface that though help a bit I would guess.

    • @justinnorrie3594
      @justinnorrie3594 5 років тому +1

      @@ridesofjapan Right. Like you, I assumed it was a seatpost issue. That makes the most sense. So I removed and cleaned the clamp mounts, regreased them, tightened everything back up, but I still had that movement. That's when I noticed on a WW forum that other people have this issue with Lupina saddles, and it seems it *might* be related to tiny differences in the size of the rails ... ? Anyway, I love how the saddle feels. It's brilliant. I just want to be sure it won't suddenly shift position on me when I'm 80km from home! PS nice video.

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  5 років тому +1

      Justin Norrie ah, I see think I need to read up on that...
      Is it one of the clamps that clamp from the side and not above/below?
      I imagine if that the case it could be the reason while you feel movement of the diameter is off 🤔
      I hade the Ritchey 1-bolt seatpost a few years back and it clamped from the side... wasn’t a big fan of that to be honest, it was light though :)

    Totally overpriced... Just a sheet of carbon fiber mat... Berk's designs are not unique.. He did not do extensive anatomical research or advanced computer aided design to justify the expense. They are copies and tweaks of shapes that already exist. Remember, no matter if the saddle is 20$ or 300$, it's all about the saddle shape, the padding in your shorts and how well it suits your anatomy... One mans pillar of bliss is another mans ass hachet.

      Don't get so overexcited. We know it all too. Nobody pays a full retail price these days anymore. These saddles can be had for close to 1/2 price if you search the internet retail places at the right time.

      They should cost half price judging by how frequently they break.
