SOLVED - Traeger Scout Overheating In Smoke Setting

why does my traeger keep raising the temperature on it's own?
traeger temperature control issue.
My Traeger Scout was overheating to 400 plus degrees in the smoke setting which is supposed to be 160 to 225. Because of the portable size, Traeger says it can plus or minus from 50 to 100 degrees on this model.
I spoke with technical support and resolved the problem. There's a p-setting and it is factory set to p2. Normally it's p3. I switched it to p5 because I need the least amount of heat and more smoke. The scout does not overheat anymore.

Thanks for the video. I had this same problem. Mine came from the factory set to P-1. I changed it to P-4. It was a big improvement. I am guessing it will need to be adjusted once in a while based on outdoor temperatures.

So we have our therm set on 225 and it’s 415. This happened with the first cook we did and it threw an over heat error code. So Traeger sent us a new control panel. Prior to that we adjusted the P setting. Now that we have the new panel it’s still overheating. No wonder so many people return these.

Yea. It's good when it works but more often than not it doesn't work as needed. Especially if it's warm outside.

These things are junk. Spent over an hour with tech support. Changing P Code didn't fix the temperature variation. It improved it, but while set on 300, my grill would vary from 195 to 395. Took it back to Costco. At least Costco was helpful.
