This is by far the BEST video on how to install the auto frunk. It was short, clear and to the point! I too have had issues with the Hansshow strut damaging my weather strip. They also instructed me to cut away a bit of the plastic cover to fit the wider diameter strut. Thanks again for this fantastic video.

Tesla tip you might want to pass along. I’ve found that driving in autopilot if I rest my hand on the steering wheel with the Palm over the two dials on the spoke, I can eliminate the autopilot asking to place hands on wheel. There’s just enough pressure on the wheel and I’m still in position to use the wheel if I need to take control
    Thanks

See the orange firefighter tag wrapped around a cable at 4:07 and at 5:52? My 2021 Model 3, as delivered, has that protruding through the frunk tub seam so that it is immediately visible when the frunk is opened. Not all of it protrudes, but certainly the firefighter symbol and it is obvious and quick to see.
My daughter is a volunteer firefighter running rescue, so I asked her about it. She said that FF rescuers know that Teslas are different in a couple ways, but she wouldn't know right off how to disconnect power in a Tesla despite her continuous ongoing training and she'd definitely benefit by being able to see that tag right off. So, my bet is that you really want to have that tag protruding and visible, just as it is in the delivered vehicle. I really don't know, but wanted to call it to your attention to think about because it doesn't seem to be visible in your final reassembly.

Different strokes for different folks. I use my frunk a ton, as it is my default location for any take-out food, or small grocery/hardware trips. I installed the "Jeep struts" to make it pop open when I tell Siri "open the frunk." I would be nice to have it close without me putting finger prints on the hood. I also don't like the struts making the hood wobble on pop up. I just placed an order for this kit, plus the trunk and kick sensor.

I don't get it. If, like the OP, you think it's too much money or that you don't need/want it at any price, just don't buy it. If I think it's worth it and will be useful, your opinion is just irrelevant noise. Mike does a real service for those who are considering the purchase. He gives us info to help make a decision. Thanks, Mike. The grumps who complain because others disagree with them add no value for anyone. Big difference. And what is frugal for me now is way different from what it was when I was in my 30s. It makes no sense to tell me, others or Mike what frugal means.

The right side of the car is not the passenger side in all countries. ;) I'd suggest applying the pulling force nearer the clips when popping the various plastic parts out. Maybe some blue threadlocker on the bolts too. I highly recommend "liquid tape" (from the PlastiDip people) for sealing connectors and covering unpainted bolts etc. Maybe you can review it? The version that comes in the jar is better than the spray IMO. I'd like to see a pad under the control module to reduce vibration and maybe a mounting bracket/larger/flatter sticking area for the motor.
It looks like a nice (much neater than previous ones) product! Thanks for the video!

At 10:16 there looks to be a bit of metal (beneath the sticky label) that just sort of falls down, and seems to just be lost behind the new soft close motor that is attached. Is that right? Also just before that point in the video, at 9:53, you say "Yours will look like this.." - why? Is that because you're removing the Hansshow soft close motor at that point, not the Tesla OEM one?
Thanks for such a comprehensive step by step video though. Great job!

Hey Mike. I live up the street from you. My Model 3 is cold dead in my garage this morning. 12v battery died in the Redding heat without any warning. Car is less than a year old, 15k miles. Apparently, this is a very very common issue on Model 3s. I'm trying to get Tesla service to call me back. Also trying to find a 12v battery replacement in the North State is proving to be a real issue. I was not aware just how challenging it would be if the 12v battery dies. As you likely know (I did not) the app doesn't work, the car won't unlock, the charging port wont even open. I had just enough power to pop the frunk, but if not you have to use a 9v battery to hot wire it. It's a real problem I wish I had known about. Thought it might be a good topic for future video.

@@niners4t9 Thank you. Yes. I've been trying to get it going now since last Thurs. The 12v battery swelled up and failed catastrophically, filled garage with horrible rotten egg smell (off gassing) and was so hot to the touch I had to remove it quickly because the car was making crazy noises and nothing was working. Without the 12v battery, the Tesla app doesn't even connect and the doors won't open or anything. This is just part of not living near a service center I suppose. We certainly love the car otherwise, but I am going to try to purchase a spare 12v battery when they come out. If this had happened somewhere on the road we would have been in a bad situation.

Hansshow has great reviews on their v5 with waterproof controller. Wonder how it compares. I saw your negative reviews of the Hansshow, but seems it was an early version. • @FrugalTeslaGuy

No argument there, I'm sure their product is better than earlier versions. However, the reason Hansshow is on their 5th version is because it took them longer to get to where they are now. They released inferior products in the beginning and eventually caught up with EV Offer.

Question I have for anyone as I have not been able to figure it out: About 80% of the time - when I open the frunk the hood will "pop up" but then it kind of does a "stall out" like it is getting "caught" and the motors will not lift it at all. I have to then lift it by hand. IF I am right at the frunk and give a very gentile "lift" with my hand right as it pops open, the motors will open it up just fine after a ver slight 1/2 second pause. Changing the speeds via the controller does nothing to change this. Once open it closes fine automatically and the hood gap is normal. Any thoughts? I am at the wits end on it.
