Elfman is and has always been a genius. On top of that Oingo Boingo was one of the most amazing live acts you can imagine. Everyone of those sounds that are layered into their music were played live on stage. A huge band. Horn section. Percussionists. All fronted by Elfman. React to some live clips from the 1985 farewell concert. I suggest "Insanity", which opened the show, and "Grey Matter" with Danny and their bassist John Avila playing instruments that they built themselves. Enjoy.
I've been an OB fan forever. When this song was used in Stranger Things my granddaughter flipped for this song. Now she's an OB fan. Such an innovative band and of course Danny is a genius artist. Great damn song!
I miss this time in the 80s because this was the kind of creative music we heard all the time! Whether it was on MTV, the radio, and in so many movies that really influenced musical taste at that time. I own tons of 80s movie soundtracks just for songs like this!
I have a cd playing alarm clock...For at least two decades I have woken up to this song every day. Because, the older you get you realize it really is always JUST ANOTHER DAY. I have been a fan of Boingo since they started back in the early eighties. And don't forget my request for DEVO BEAUTIFUL WORLD!
I think you probably have no idea how funny your comment is. I didn't see it coming but you made me cry with laughter - just the idea off waking up to the same song every day, and this song, of all songs!!
Hmm, some more 80s rock acts to check out - Missing persons - words, walking in l.a., destination unknown; The motels - total control; Romeo void - a girl in trouble, never say never; Lone justice - shelter, ways to be wicked; Thompson twins - lies, lay your hands on me; Eurythmics - there must be an angel, I need a man, sisters are doing it for themselves, would I lie to you; Go west - call me, we close our eyes; Bodeans - you don’t get much, only love, closer to free; David and david - welcome to the boomtown, swallowed by the cracks, ain’t so easy; Abc - when smokey sings, be near me; The alarm - rain in the summertime, sold me down the river; World party - ship of fools, all come true, way down now, put the message in the box; The call - let the day begin, the walls came down, I still believe, everywhere I go
When I think of the 80's I usually lean towards punk rock tbh. The Ramones (and what they spawned) are weird and wonderfilled. I have a huge gap in my 80's music history mode tbh. I sort of fixated on electro, techno and hiphop in that era(when I learned about it). Yeah, I love some INXS and other random bands...yet I am very uninitiated to that decade tbh. I know more about the hardware and tech used to create that music than I do about the bands that created that music.
The hard reverb snare is SOOOO 80's pop music tho. I am unsure how you use it outside of throwback mode, and sometimes it sounds very lame. Occassionally it sounds very epic tho.
So glad I got to see Oingo Boingo in clubs a handful of times back in the day. They are a band best seen in a club instead of a concert Danny interacted with the audience in clubs that he couldn't do in concerts. GREAT BAND!
There's life underground... I feel it all around, I feel it in my bones, My life is on the line, When I'm away from home. When I step out the door, The jungle is alive... I do not trust my ears, I don't believe my eyes. I will not fall in love, I cannot risk the bet, Cause hearts are fragile toys, So easy to forget. It's just another day, There's murder in the air... It drags me when I walk, I smell it everywhere. It's just another day, Where people cling to light, To drive away the fear, That comes with every night... It's just another- It's just another day... It's just another day, It's just another day... It's just another- It's just another day... It's just another day, It's just another day... It's just another day, When people wake from dreams, With voices in their ears, That will not go away... I had a dream last night, The world was set on fire. And everywhere I ran, There wasn't any water... The temperature increased, The sky was crimson red, The clouds turned into smoke, And everyone was dead. But there's a smile on my face, For everyone... There's a golden coin, That reflects the sun... There's a lonely place, That's always cold... There's a place in the stars, For when you get old. Oh... Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh... It's just another- It's just another day... It's just another It's just another day... Oh... There's razors in my bed, That come out late at night. They always disappear, Before the morning light! I'm dreaming again, Of life underground... It doesn't ever move, It doesn't make a sound. And just when I think That things are in their place, The heavens are secure, The whole thing explodes in my face! It's just another- It's just another day... It's just another day, It's just another day... It's just another- It's just another day... It's just another day, It's just another day... There's a smile on my face, For everyone... There's a golden coin, That reflects the sun... There's a lonely place, That's always cold... There's a place in the stars, For when you get old. Just another, just another, just another day... Just another, just another, just another day... Oh...
I decided that I was not going to drink one drop of alcohol and be cold sober so I can remember the concert. It was by far the best show I ever went to. We danced all night even with strangers. OB was a blast.
This so cool, funky and different, even in the 80's this band was really unique and different from any other. The 80's was such a great time to grow up. Gen X for the win! Music, tv, movies, fashion.. we had it ALL!
What a great discovery, I just turned 50 and listen to primary rock and Metal...BUT grew up in the 80's so I greatly appreciate finding gems like this. Thank You, Keep it up! 🤘
This song brings back a lot of high school memories. Every time I hear it, I can smell where I was at - the smells, the feelings I was getting, always sunny (Southern California)... Very L.A. I played this record over and over!
Oingo Boingo - Grey Matter Oingo Boingo - Stay Oingo Boingo - Good For Your Soul Oingo Boingo - Pictures of You Oingo Boingo - Nothing To Fear (But Fear Itself) Oingo Boingo - No one Lives Forever
Danny Elfman bruv. A very, very competent musician with many very competent collaborators. He is a phenomenal film composer as well, famous for many things.
this is the most purely accessible of the Oingo Boingo discography, and also one of the best songs. Those two aren't often one and the same, but this one kicks off what is, cover to cover, a perfect album in Dead Man's Party
And "The Simpson's" theme song. Worked extensively with Tim Burton. My favorite, though, is "Back to School"... ...when he composed and stared in the same movie with his band Oingo Boingo. Every time I hear Danny Elfman, I hear "Dead Man's Party" and "The Simpson's" theme. I saw them live 30 years ago. Very good band to see live.
Love this! I saw Danny Elfman in concert last year and at 70 yrs old he was still amazing. It was a great mix of Oingo Boingo, his solo songs, and musical scores. It was like a trip through his brain. If you can see him in concert, you must go 🙂
I love Boingo! Amazing band to see live! I saw them in concert in 1991 at Great America in Santa Clara the same night as the big fire in the Oakland Hills.
Danny Elfman- modern musical genius! This song got me through so much this year. In adition to being catchy, I find it so haunting. Beautiful all around and one of my fav Boingo tunes. Thanks for reacting to it!
Oingo Boingo always sends me back to the early 80's. I was finally on my own and learning about the world. Finally, I was in a place where I didn't have to ask permission to do what I wanted. Plus, living in Southern California in a beach town!
Danny Elfman was in and composed music in the cult movie "Forbidden Zone" In the 80's we watched it on acid. Also "DARK STAR" "PF "The Wall" "Heavy Metal" and the best "PEE WEES BIG ADVENTURE"🙈🙉🙊
Yea! Oingo!! I've always Loved different Music, and always loved Oingo Boingo.... Have one of their CDs (from in the day) :) Too bad they weren't around longer and I only recall a couple Hits played over-the-air. Great Choice & Reaction, You Guys! :)
Love this song. I'm glad you enjoy it, too! I was hoping you were reacting to the live version they did at The Ritz. Definitely worth a look. Impeccable vocals and such a fun live band.
PETER SCHILLINGS - " The Different Story ( World Of Lust And Crime )" (Official Video) another one of his famous MTV music hits very creative 1980s Classic sounds & Vocals Great Video 🎸🎹💯🔥
Watch one of his live performances with Oingo Boingo from the Farewell Concert where he's basically in a spirit of rapture by the end of the performance, playing aggressive marimba barechested and barefooted, howling as much as he's singing and dehydrating before your very eyes. It's positively electric to watch him do "No One Lives Forever" and some of those songs where the audience's energy is equally frenetic and you feel like sparks could literally start flying.
Guys, you have no idea how HIGH ENERGY Oingo was live. They had sort of a cult following like the Grateful Dead, we knew every note and word to their entire catalog. Gotta say these young'ns missed out on some great live music.
Best concert I ever went to in my 51 years of life was Oingo Boingo at Irvine Meadows in the mid 90s. Can't recall if it was a Halloween show but the crowd of several 10s of 1,000s of people were congregated like one giant mosh pit. The energy was infectious and contagious. I never felt more alive. I really miss those days.
Good pick ! Saw Boingo 7 or 8 times on Halloween and was at their farewell show in LA... Their fans were like the 80s version of Grateful Dead fans ! We all sang along and danced the whole show... Many memories at shows with my siblings and took my 14 year old daughter to the Farewell show... she's still a big fan ! Thanks guys..
My guitarist and I with a couple of our roadies saw them live, we were the only ones there in leather jackets and hail to our waist. Some guy before the concert said to us “ What are you guys doing here, you’re a heavy metal band?” I said “Who the hell cares, good music is good music, that’s what matters most”. Good point he said enjoy the show. One of the best shows we ever saw, just an incredible band and an amazing show. Hopefully that guy remembered what I said and passed it forward to others who stereotyped certain music to certain people.
That was then, This is now. Was the first time I had been introduced to this underrated gem of a tune. The movie was just as underrated. Based on S.E. Hinton novella.
Steve Bartek (the lead guitarist) is also the arranger, for both Oingo Boingo and Danny Elfman's soundtrack's. Steve is a graduate from the Jilliard School of Music.
You guys hit the nail on the head. This song epitomizes the 1980's. Sadly, even though this song was from the very same album that produced the hits " Weird Science" and " Dead Man's Party", this song never got any real traction and was charted at #85 on the Billboard charts. I never even heard it until about 10 years ago on an online "deep dive" 1980's station. This is my favorite Oingo song. So many 1980's bands met this same fate or worse. So much great music being unheard! The commenters and I can guide you. Someone mentioned "Romeo Void". Amber, this band is a must for Female Friday, because the lead singer is a woman. Start with " Never Say Never". It is a banger!
One of my favorite 80's bands. Danny Elfman and the band are so unique and so talented. This is also off the DEAD MAN'S PARTY album, which I feel is amazing from start to finish. Check out "Stay" and "No One Lives Forever".
This was great. Oingo Boingo is a good band. Other songs: "Stay" "Private Life" "We Close Our Eyes" "Not My Slave" "Nothing Bad Ever Happens" "Who Do You Want To Be" "Only A Lad" "No One Lives Forever" and "Grey Matter." This last song here is a live performance. Their inclusion of different instruments reminds me a lot of The Outfield.
You guys need to check out The Busboys’ 1st album! Same sarcastic humor as Danny Elfman in songs like “There Goes The neighborhood” & “Tell The Coach”......... 💯🔥🤙🏽😎
" Grey Matter" " Nothing to fear" " Nothing bad ever happens to me" " Only a lad" are other great Oingo Boingo songs 😊
I second Only A Lad
Nothing to fear is great!
“Only a Lad” is amazing
I love "Controller", "Perfect System" and "Nasty Habits" on his first album along with Only a Lad
House of Pain
Elfman is and has always been a genius. On top of that Oingo Boingo was one of the most amazing live acts you can imagine. Everyone of those sounds that are layered into their music were played live on stage. A huge band. Horn section. Percussionists. All fronted by Elfman. I suggest "Insanity", which opened the show, and "Grey Matter" with Danny and their bassist John Avila playing instruments that they built themselves. Enjoy.
Danny Elfman, just another genius from the 80's heyday!
I was thinking exactly the same thing. His fingerprints can be found all over numerous movie sound tracks.
I've been an OB fan forever. When this song was used in Stranger Things my granddaughter flipped for this song. Now she's an OB fan. Such an innovative band and of course Danny is a genius artist. Great damn song!
A genius. I’ve been saying since the 90’s that he’s THE composer of our time. And wickedly overlooked!! 😮
I miss this time in the 80s because this was the kind of creative music we heard all the time! Whether it was on MTV, the radio, and in so many movies that really influenced musical taste at that time. I own tons of 80s movie soundtracks just for songs like this!
Your comment just gave me a pain in the pit of my stomach. I miss this time too.
The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo started out in the 70's. On the freaking Gong Show. Plenty of videos here on UA-cam.
I think you probably have no idea how funny your comment is. I didn't see it coming but you made me cry with laughter - just the idea off waking up to the same song every day, and this song, of all songs!!

Oh yeah, definitely some ABC for sure!
You must be old like me
Great band and great video band.
Amazingly underrated song from Oingo Boingo. Growing up, this was the one I always listened to the most.
So glad I got to see Oingo Boingo in clubs a handful of times back in the day. They are a band best seen in a club instead of a concert Danny interacted with the audience in clubs that he couldn't do in concerts. GREAT BAND!
I saw them in Tijuana and Irvine Meadows. Still one of the best live shows ever. A small club would have been epic!
ONLY A LAD by Oingo Boingo. I'm a big fan.
There's life underground...
I feel it all around,
I feel it in my bones,
My life is on the line,
When I'm away from home.
When I step out the door,
The jungle is alive...
I do not trust my ears,
I don't believe my eyes.
I will not fall in love,
I cannot risk the bet,
Cause hearts are fragile toys,
So easy to forget.
It's just another day,
There's murder in the air...
It drags me when I walk,
I smell it everywhere.
It's just another day,
Where people cling to light,
To drive away the fear,
That comes with every night...
It's just another-
It's just another day...
It's just another day,
It's just another day...
It's just another-
It's just another day...
It's just another day,
It's just another day...
It's just another day,
When people wake from dreams,
With voices in their ears,
That will not go away...
I had a dream last night,
The world was set on fire.
And everywhere I ran,
There wasn't any water...
The temperature increased,
The sky was crimson red,
The clouds turned into smoke,
And everyone was dead.
But there's a smile on my face,
For everyone...
There's a golden coin,
That reflects the sun...
There's a lonely place,
That's always cold...
There's a place in the stars,
For when you get old.
Oh...
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh...
It's just another-
It's just another day...
It's just another
It's just another day...
Oh...
There's razors in my bed,
That come out late at night.
They always disappear,
Before the morning light!
I'm dreaming again,
Of life underground...
It doesn't ever move,
It doesn't make a sound.
And just when I think
That things are in their place,
The heavens are secure,
The whole thing explodes in my face!
It's just another-
It's just another day...
It's just another day,
It's just another day...
It's just another-
It's just another day...
It's just another day,
It's just another day...
There's a smile on my face,
For everyone...
There's a golden coin,
That reflects the sun...
There's a lonely place,
That's always cold...
There's a place in the stars,
For when you get old.
Just another, just another, just another day...
Just another, just another, just another day...
Oh...
You are the MVP and win the internet with the lyrics post!
This is my favorite band, and dead man's party is my favorite album. This song is my theme song.
They were even on the Gong Show!
ua-cam.com/video/tsmwVWELBBc/v-deo.html
One of greatest concerts I've ever seen. The moment they started their first song, THE WHOLE AUDIENCE STOOD, DANCED AND ROCKED OUT.

Is, was and will always be my favorite band of all-time. Gotta love the Halloween tradition of going to a Boingo concert! 💙💙💙
'We Close Our Eyes' and 'Not My Slave' are essential Oingo Boingo listens.
LOVE not my slave! Forgot about it until you mentioned it!
Oingo Boingo songs are pretty much all bangers. My personal favorite is "No One Lives Forever," which I think you two would enjoy as well.
Oingo Boingo - Grey Matter
Oingo Boingo - Stay
Oingo Boingo - Good For Your Soul
Oingo Boingo - Pictures of You
Oingo Boingo - Nothing To Fear (But Fear Itself)
Oingo Boingo - No one Lives Forever
"Only a Lad" "Private Life" "Good For Your Soul" and " Wake Up (It's 1984)" are just a few more of their many great songs.
“There’s a smile n my face…for everyone.” I love that line! We should treat people with a smile first.
This was always my favorite Oingo Boingo song. Thank you for delving into Danny Elfman's genius work. Love you guys.
This is my favorite Oingo Boingo track. Some good 80's selection today
two of my favorites are "No spill blood" and "We close our eyes"
Cry of the Vatos!!
Oh man, thank you! Love Oingo Boingo! Love and peace to you both.
Danny Elfman bruv. A very, very competent musician with many very competent collaborators.
He is a phenomenal film composer as well, famous for many things.
The intro to the first MiB film is so choice lol. He melded something like alfred hitchcock with john williams. So cool.
this is the most purely accessible of the Oingo Boingo discography, and also one of the best songs. Those two aren't often one and the same, but this one kicks off what is, cover to cover, a perfect album in Dead Man's Party
This one has always sounded a lot like 80’s era The Fixx to me, great tune.
This whole album is sooo great!
I got to see them in concert from 6 feet away amazing.
Haven’t heard this song in ages. Thanks for giving it a spotlight on your channel.
Jay/Amber, you'll love their ""Stay" and "Ain't This The Life" !!
Their singer/songwriter Danny Elfman also was a composer for major motion pictures!
I would second this, especially Stay
And "The Simpson's" theme song. Worked extensively with Tim Burton. My favorite, though, is "Back to School"...
...when he composed and stared in the same movie with his band Oingo Boingo. Every time I hear Danny Elfman, I hear "Dead Man's Party" and "The Simpson's" theme. I saw them live 30 years ago. Very good band to see live.

Yay! My ALL Time Favorite Oingo Boingo Song! :-D Danny Elfman is a Musical Genius.
I love listening to music with you guys! Thank you so much for making my old music new again with both of you!
Killer song. Elfman's a rad dude.
This is probably my favorite OB song. My jam driving to HS in the late 80s💜
I love Boingo! Amazing band to see live! I saw them in concert in 1991 at Great America in Santa Clara the same night as the big fire in the Oakland Hills.
They performed at my high school in 1977 in Southern California….Knew then they would be great.
_No One Lives Forever_ is a great song from this album, Dead Man's Party. It's a hell of a lot of fun. And, it has horns!
i have been a boingo fan for decades this is on of my particular favs and yes the concerts were a blast
Y'all are killing it tonight!!
This is my favorite song to karaoke!❤❤
Love this 80’s band
Danny Elfman- modern musical genius! This song got me through so much this year. In adition to being catchy, I find it so haunting. Beautiful all around and one of my fav Boingo tunes. Thanks for reacting to it!
Y'all picked the best one, IMO! This is "Oingo Boingo 201" class.
Oingo Boingo is always a good time 🎉
Grey Matter, Only a lad, Stay, nothing bad ever happens to me... All greats by Oingo Boingo.
Oingo Boingo always sends me back to the early 80's. I was finally on my own and learning about the world. Finally, I was in a place where I didn't have to ask permission to do what I wanted. Plus, living in Southern California in a beach town!
Same
Danny Elfman was in and composed music in the cult movie "Forbidden Zone" In the 80's we watched it on acid. Also "DARK STAR" "PF "The Wall" "Heavy Metal" and the best "PEE WEES BIG ADVENTURE"🙈🙉🙊
The "sounds" are also reminiscent of the 80s version of the band Yes. An interesting 80s Yes song you might consider is "Leave It".
Yea! Oingo!! I've always Loved different Music, and always loved Oingo Boingo.... Have one of their CDs (from in the day) :) Too bad they weren't around longer and I only recall a couple Hits played over-the-air. Great Choice & Reaction, You Guys! :)
One of my favorite bands from the 1980s. Love love love this song!
God i love this song even today
I've seen Oingo Boingo a few times back in the day. Always put on a great show, enough for me to have paid for tickets at least 4 times
Love this song. I'm glad you enjoy it, too! I was hoping you were reacting to the live version they did at The Ritz. Definitely worth a look. Impeccable vocals and such a fun live band.
My all time favorite band!! I miss their southern California concerts so much! 💔
From this album, listen to "Stay". It's a great song & oh so catchy
Favorite band along with Rush. No one lives forever. Is awesome and my personal Favorite.
Great band wish were still together if they are not in the rock and roll hall of Fame their way overdue
I remember having the single 45 of this song. The flip side was "Dead Man's Party". The best $1.29 I aver spent! Good to hear again! Thanks.
I've been begging them to do Maria McKee and Lone Justice forever, thank you for mentioning them too!
Absolutely love this classic OB tune! Thanks for this!
This is one of my favorites by them -- check out "Stay" and "Only a Lad."
My favorite band.
Great band!!
PETER SCHILLINGS - " The Different Story ( World Of Lust And Crime )" (Official Video) another one of his famous MTV music hits very creative 1980s Classic sounds & Vocals Great Video 🎸🎹💯🔥
Geez, getting into the deep cuts! Love Oingo Boingo, I'm a guaranteed click for any of their songs, plz keep going.
one of my all time favorites. first concert i took my daughter to in 1989. elfman's voice is an instrument.
Great choice today!!! Some more good Boingo is “Who Do You Want to Be”, “Only a Lad”, and well, there are many….
Danny.....yesssss!!!!!
Oingo Boingo is the 80's shizznit. Some more of their best are "Violent Love", "We Close Our Eyes", and "Who Do You Want to Be Today?".
I totally forgot about " Who do you want to be today"! Definitely recommend.
Do you wanna be just like someone on TV?
Do you wanna be stupid just like me!
White Lion - ‘Little Fighter’ or ‘Wait’. Please. Wife and I never miss a show. Thanks for making our day!
Guys, you have no idea how HIGH ENERGY Oingo was live. They had sort of a cult following like the Grateful Dead, we knew every note and word to their entire catalog. Gotta say these young'ns missed out on some great live music.
Yay! Love this one from Oingo Boingo
words are great to.
❤We can't forget Nightmare Before Christmas.....Danny Elfman composed the music for the film and he was Jack Skelingtons singing voice. Genius 🎃🎄
Just Another Day, and Stay, are my favourite from Oingo Boingo :)
The just another day live at the ritz video is the best live performance.
I was a spotlight operator for one of their concerts in the very early 90's/late 80's. Great show!
"Insanity" is another great song from this band.
I remember the first time I heard this album. 1988, in the airman's club on the airbase. Bought the album.
Great band. Amazing live. Saw them open for The Police at the Forum.
Hopefully that guy remembered what I said and passed it forward to others who stereotyped certain music to certain people.
That was then,
This is now.
Was the first time I had been introduced to this underrated gem of a tune. The movie was just as underrated. Based on S.E. Hinton
novella.
Need to go back to the beginning with Only A Lad (album/song) 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Steve Bartek (the lead guitarist) is also the arranger, for both Oingo Boingo and Danny Elfman's soundtrack's. Steve is a graduate from the Jilliard School of Music.
Eight guys in the band Danny Elfman writes everything
You guys hit the nail on the head. This song epitomizes the 1980's.
Love Boingo always. Grey matter. No one lives forever and Nothing to fear (but fear itself) great songs but hard to narrow it down
One of my favorite 80's bands. Danny Elfman and the band are so unique and so talented. This is also off the DEAD MAN'S PARTY album, which I feel is amazing from start to finish. Check out "Stay" and "No One Lives Forever".
Finally. Oingo's best song :)
One of my favorites!!!
“Only a lad” from these guys is a must!
You guys need to check out The Busboys’ 1st album! Same sarcastic humor as Danny Elfman in songs like “There Goes The neighborhood” & “Tell The Coach”......... 💯🔥🤙🏽😎
