- Crime Of The Century, (1996), Film In English, Stephen Rea, Beau Bridges, Crime Drama Movie HD
"Crime of the Century" (1996) is a made-for-TV crime drama film directed by Mark Rydell. The film dramatizes the infamous Lindbergh baby kidnapping case, one of the most widely publicized criminal events in American history. It aired on the USA Network and stars Stephen Rea, Beau Bridges, Diane Ladd, and John Heard.
Plot Summary:
The film centers on the notorious kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh Jr., the young son of aviation hero Charles Lindbergh and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh. The baby was abducted from the family’s home in New Jersey in 1932. The case became a media sensation and led to a nationwide search for the child, along with intense public and law enforcement pressure.
In the film, the story is presented from multiple perspectives. It explores the emotional turmoil experienced by the Lindbergh family, the intense media frenzy surrounding the case, and the investigation led by law enforcement. The case eventually leads to the arrest of Bruno Hauptmann, a German immigrant, who was convicted of the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby.
Though Hauptmann maintained his innocence throughout his trial and execution, the film takes liberties in dramatizing the events, showcasing the complexities and controversies surrounding his conviction and the investigation.
Key Cast:
Stephen Rea as Bruno Hauptmann
Beau Bridges as Dr. John Condon, a key figure involved in the ransom negotiations
Diane Ladd as Emma Hauptmann, Bruno Hauptmann’s wife
John Heard as Colonel Norman Schwarzkopf (a police official involved in the case)
Themes:
Justice and Morality: The film raises questions about justice, especially with the contested conviction of Hauptmann, sparking debates about whether he was truly guilty or a victim of a flawed investigation.
Media Sensationalism: The case is often remembered for the role the media played in sensationalizing the events and influencing public opinion. The film explores how the press contributed to the emotional and legal pressures on the Lindberghs and the legal system.
Tragedy and Loss: The kidnapping and death of Charles Lindbergh Jr. was a devastating personal tragedy for the Lindbergh family, and the film portrays the emotional aftermath of the event.
Reception:
While "Crime of the Century" was made for TV, it has been noted for its strong performances, particularly by Stephen Rea as the accused Bruno Hauptmann. The film is considered a gripping and compelling dramatization of a case that continues to fascinate audiences even decades after the events took place. Though it simplifies the true complexity of the case, the film effectively captures the tension, drama, and controversy surrounding one of the most infamous kidnappings in U.S. history.

Fantastic movie. But very sad in the end that an innocent man had been executed in the electric chair inspite of not being guilty.
just goes to show how curruption, power, greed , and vanity rule the roost. A sucker had to be found. How convenient an Immigrant. A great scapegoat to sacrifice. Bruno Hauptmann was innocent. The sadness of it all, is that nothing changes, curruption, power and greed still rule world~wide. Heartbreaking.
That is so sad. They knew he was innocent, but they wanted a conviction! So wrong. A case that has always had people wondering and still today - over 90 years later. It would be great if Hauptmann could be exonerated, but some cases are never solved, sadly.
Thanks for sharing ❤
If he is inocent then he is pardoned by myself.
We know today that Lindbergh was involved in the kidnapping and death of his own child. Google it.
We live in a fallen evil world ,satan is the god of this world!
He may have been innocent but he did know something he wasn't telling.
THIS IS DISGUSTING ABUSE OF POWER, FALSELY ACCUSING AND DESTROYING LIVES. DON T LIKE THE WAY THIS ENDED. HOPE THE FALSE ACCUSERS WERE JAILED
Always ask for a lawyer before opening your mouth
Does anyone wonder, how in the wide world of sports does an illegal immigrant come up with $7,000 in the GREAT DEPRESSION?
Beautiful but wish there was a part 2
There is............................rerun this one
Money is not the root of evil:
Man's lust for money is evil.
Money is good, not evil...
JUSTICE, MOST OF THE TIME, STANDS FOR JUST_US. THIS IS SO SAD!
Is this one based on true story?
Very nice.
Yes
what kind of idiot would upload a movie and have it end before the final scenes?
not Beau Bridges,,,his name is J.T, Walsh
This HAPPENS EVERYDAY....
Beau Bridges is NOT in this movie.
There was no Beau Bridges in this movie, at all!
Money the route of all evil /lies and corruption
I hope Beau Bridges got PAID, anyway.
Injustice !
This was good . Was this based on fact ? What is a fact though is that C Lindberg was not the all American hero that one was led to believe but rather a mean spirited fascist .
There us written evidence Lindberg believed in Eugenics & a 'master race'. Theres evidence from family friends that he despised & was cruel to his son: because he had developmental delays & health issues.
Why? Bc he thought the US shouldn't be maneuvered into a world war by alien forces? He was right.
Supertramp.

This is what was done to Trump. Not much has changed.
😂😂😂😂
Terrible if trye.
Typical of Yankee Justice. Something horrific & tragic happens & the Authorities want it wrapped up & pinned on the first body that comes along. Then you get various personalities looking at it & see they can make kudos out of it for their own benefit. There is a book, "Murder on a Cold Winter's Morn." It covers a double Murder in upstate New York in late 1914/early 1915.. They fingered it on an innocent German emigre. The guy was found Guilty & prepped for execution on 4 separate occasions. Each time the execution was stayed. It wasn't until the 1920's that a Trial showed the Prosecution's case was a pile of cr*p. Just so many people saw benefit in it, from Politicians seeking Higher Offices, down to Police Officers. The worst was the guy who set himself up as a professional Forensics Expert. He made a damn fine Living at it, yet knew next to nothing. He was making around £84,000 a year testifying in all kinds of cases.
LOL, remember the innocent man executed for the Christie murders? What about the young boy executed for a murder he didn't commit? The one that said "Let Him have it"?
@@ricardocantoral7672 Count Dankula posted just a few days ago on these & other cases. (2day's date 2nd Feb. '25. I put a reply in there covering some aspects of Dankula's Post.
This is not typical of "Yankee Justice". Far from it. We have the best justice system in the world. That's why people come here from all over the world.
Isabella Rossellini?
Of course . . . I kept thinking they've made up this actress to look like Ingrid Bergman . . . but it was Ingrid's look-alike daughter! Thanks for solving that mystery for me!
She does have the talent of her mother...
Goodness. Seeing the film. The similarity with Ingrid Bergman struct me. Or sprang to mind. I was not looking to compare. I was just watching when I noticed a similarity. But I did not guess she was Ingrid Bergman's daughter.
Stormin' Norman (Colonel Norman Schwarzkopf ) was a damn liar.
Cheesy
epitome of the US evil empire for the past 250 years:( I am out of here.
You go girl!
