no...no no...No....I have done this (bought cheap goggles) and trust me, when you are waaaay up high in waist deep powder and there is ANY kind of poor weather condition blowing in, it's the WORST as in you literally cannot see where you are going. Get some decent polarized and vented goggles - you have already spent a heap on being in the snow, make sure you have the right equipment to enjoy it!
Oh, whatever.... same shit goggles from same damn factory. It's just you want to be cool with your 'brand' gear like you're still in high school. Shove it!
Reflected light from snow isn't polarized, so polarized goggles won't make a difference, except for maybe darkening the sky. Interchangeable lenses are useful though for variable conditions.
Tony oh Tony... 3 differences, 1: more comfortable 2: better visibility in bad weather/lighting due to fog free lenses and smart darkening (and usually better fov like seen on the vid) 3: try and hit both of them once with a hammer, which one gets more annihilated?
Agree fully, if you are just going to go ride the bunny hills or the park these goggles would be fine for beginners who are not sure if they are going to get into the sport. As soon as you know snowboarding is something you are going to actually get into, and you start riding big mtn in sub par conditions, good googles are well worth the investment. Cheap gear means uncomfortable and shitty day on the hill(ex: being wet, googles fogging/terrible glare and snow blindness, bad pressure points and stuff on boots or other gear).
I've used old goggles a bit like the cheap ones ever since I was a kid. I've skied for like fifteen years, then a couple of years ago tried snowboarding and fell in love. A couple of days ago I went to buy new equipment, and trying goggles with a wide vision was simply astonishing. I didn't even know such a thing existed. Insta-bought them.
I got goggles with a tiny fan and they work great keeping the condensation from forming on the lens. However, the electrical contacts are finicky and had to fiddle with them more than once. Also, the higher speed option quit working but it is fine. Got them for $60 from a rep but retail for more than $200.
I live in Brazil which is quite far from any skiing, but I went on a trip to Mt snow this week and bought some cheap goggles since they wouldn't be used very often. I went to a store in New York and got a pair of Smith goggles for around 25 buck (they were on like 25%sale) and dare I say they were great (way better than sunglasses) they protected my eyes from wind, sun and the cold. No I didn't ride powder and no I'm not a professional skier or anything, but I would say they did their job and buying expensive goggles is mostly a waste of money unless you go to the mountains very often
for me, a casual snowboarder who rides about 2 weeks each year (so not a lot) for over 15 years out of all the gear upgrades I made the goggles were the most outstanding. I wanted to ride exspecially in bad conditions, because that's when fewer people are there, so it's very important to me to have good fog vision. but good glasses is also what makes goggles so much more expensiv. it's exactly the difference between a 10-80.- compared to 150-300.- also comfort and condensation are better by a mile. for me goggles are the most worth while to invest around 100-150.- more and enjoy the whole day
Some people are only looking to keep the wind and snow out of their eyes, and the cheap goggles will do them just fine. Buying an expensive pair of goggles, I always try to push people towards a spherical lense and something with quick change option. Spherical lense offers less distortion towards the edges and quick change lense means you'll have a day and night lense at least. I change my lense colors based on light conditions and a good lense will amplify shadows and ridges in the snow making it easier to see than even a clear lense. I'll admit I'm a bit of an eyewear snob but if you're going to spend the money, be educated so you're not wasting your money.
It's possible the pink goggles might break much faster too. Cheap goggles should be able to offer a better field of vision without increasing the cost. That's just a design flaw on their part. I own cheap and expensive goggles and I think the cheap goggles picked up more scratches over time. But that could be because they didn't come with a bag and I didn't treat them like they were precious objet d'art.
So I got a pair from a local store. Being in Canada it's twice the price but that's life. Todays weather is NW winds 37km/hr gusting to 56. it's minus 27c with a -43 windchill(yup that's cold and brisk). Mostly sunny and walking into the wind with the Decibel brand goggles was pretty impressive. The sun was shining and the grey with blue mirrored lenses were perfect. Yes the side view wasn't a full 180 but personally not a big issue. Over all I was impressed with them for the price tag.
cool, I just brought a pair of dragons on Amazon for $5 in some neon green color that appearantally no one wanted. Having never had a pair of Goggles in my life, I didn't know what to look for. Dragon is my favorite sunglass company, so it only made sense to try some dragon goggles first.
I ride less than a week a year and I have a pair of Anon goggles they cost about 60 dollars or 600SEK and they're perfect for that price and I got them with a spar lens for cloudy days
update: after contacting the company that made them and they gave me some tips and such to help prevent fogging up. I still found they would fog up on my way back from my one hour walk. And also from what I could tell they started to frost up as well and started to reduce visibility. Will attempt to return them.
I'd say a 3rd factor would be UV protection. I would trust my vision with a quality pair of goggles, but using $15 gas station goggles for an extended period of time would probably fry your eyes.
Agree 100%. Same thing with sunglasses. UV protection is sooo important. Gotta make sure it's a reputable brand that you're trusting to protect your eyes.
This is off topic but when it snows in Minnesota where I live, and I have school I wear my goggles to school with snow pants on and boots and a jacket and a hat with mittens.
Can u tell me if it's bad for the eyes , goggles have small scar? Can they damage my eyes or something? I will add the brand after but I think they are cheap
I have run with everything from $30-$200 goggles (and really the $30 were $15 quality bought on the mountain and overpriced) and although I keep that $30 pair in my bag for a backup, they don't come close to the Oakley's. The definition and clarity of the Oakley's are way better, construction seems better and they have lasted way longer. My $30 smiths get deformed just from sitting in my bag, the foam is terrible and the lens is beyond bad quality. Like I said I keep them around for a spare, in case someone else forgets theirs ((or god forbid i forget mine). They work if you're beginning and not going that often (they did for me the first few years I skied) but once I upgraded, ill never go back.
I've brought £7(sale price ) googles from Decathlon that are excellent.I have £100 addidas too which very good but little in it. If you are a dude and snowboard you probably don't need much as most time is spent sat on the ground smoking weed rather than sliding or crashing into others on the piste. It's about looking cool and having the right name and fashion. To be be fair the guy gives them a fair hearing and has similar opinions about the gap in performance.
Please do a video of chips (Outdoor tech?) vs bone conducting (aftershockz) headphones to see which has the better quality. Im guessing boneconducting lets u hear around u better than chips, but maybe only in non-snowhelmet/beanie conditions. They might not allow for nature sounds once your helmet with padded ear cover straps are all strapped on atop sound device.
Everything looks pink. I bought a similar pair (in pink) for my 8yr old niece when I started teaching her how to snowboard. What the hell, I didn't say I love her 😆 just kidding, she's getting better goggles soon
If your from America he said he went to a (gas) station aka petrol station to buy gogglg out here in the U S A they dont really sell goggles at any gas stations that im aware of
So funny how skiers call them skiing goggles and snowboarders call them snowboard goggles it does make sense but why aren't they called winter goggles or something like that.
So...... are goggles actually really necessary? I can definitely see why someone would want them, especially if they snowboard all the time. But since moving to florida, I only board once every couple of years. Preparing for a trip at the end of this month and not sure if I should get $15 ones or none at all . LOL WTF THE CHEAP ONES ARE THE SAME AS MY GOGGLES
Pink?
Oof
Ouuu!
you need some new goggles mate
i think the difference will be much more remarkable in bad light conditions
and during shitty snowstorms
Yes the shitty ones have a better lense for low light. his main goggles are for bright sun
Extreme cold will also tell a big difference
expensive goggles vs clout goggles

It’s also durability like those will last you last a week before the lenses die from either falling or fogging
I just got new goggles from my old 15$ ones and mine new ones are so much better than my old ones for everything
Sick riding! For those that ride 1 week a year I'd recommend to get 60$ goggles. Electric makes a pair that are quite good for the price
