Great to see people catching on to Marquee LCDs. Have been running one on a Mame cab for 4 years.
It's the future!
Yeah it's really cool that it's finally becoming more mainstream. I kind of backed away from covering it for a while because there was no real simple solution. This is not super simple but it's pretty easy with a little knowledge of LaunchBox / Big Box. Thanks for watching man, I hope all is well!
im jelly i want
Problem is that for a full size cabs they run $300+ just for the lcd panel. You used to be looking at a $700 min though. Progress ; ) I'm super eager to pop one in my full size CRT cab but, I paid $300 for the machine.. lol. Oh well.
@@RetroRalph If I remember correctly, didn't Jace Hall order one of those Ultimate Arcade systems for the office, back then there was only 1 company that had or did it and they specially ordered the LCD and created the programming for it to work with their own modified hyperspin front end, but the machines were uber expensive.
here it is - ua-cam.com/video/VRMqEJhPYxs/v-deo.html
Really digging the lcd marquees. I think it’s the next step for cabinets. Enjoyed the video.
Dude, thanks so much for the tip on editing those LB/BB files for maximized marquees! Been running a 34" ultrawide monitor as my dynamic marquee on my MAME cab and it was always a little disappointing when the marquees didn't utilize more of the screen at times. Now that iissue's a memory! Thanks again man!
This is sweet. Thanks for providing the video for how to make it go full screen in Big Box Launch Box.
Damn this is probably one of the best Arcade 1up mods I’ve seen yet! Most likely out of my price range but it is sooo cool!
Excellent video!! Thanks for making this and spreading the information on how to configure the dynamic marquee!
love the T-molding at 8:09 matches your cab and makes it look very OEM and quality
Really excellent mod, one of the best I've seen on an Arcade1up.
Thanks for breaking us in gently with the easy tutorial Ralph, appreciate the vids as always!
Just purchased! Hopefully I can get it up and running without any issues. That has been the main reason putting me off from buying one is thinking it would be to difficult from the software standpoint. I do have BigBox already so thats a plus.
You got this man, reach out if you hit a snag. 👍🏻
This is a great idea. I have a self built bartop arcade, I went no marquee & no decals in the end because I knew i'd eventually get tired of what ever I picked.
I have one that Ive built and made an image with most of the popular game. I LOVE THIS MOD. It is a gamechanger for sure!
Very nice! For those that run consoles, there are marquee packs on the lb forums for console systems. Place the pack in the arcade marquee folder for the system and you get marquees for NES, and others.
Thanks for the tip man, that's super helpful. Also, thanks for watching!
I have been waiting for this!
could we see a PI 4 Version of this video in the future?
You should also study the possibility of using monitor rotation to change from vertical to horizontal in a single frontend.
Thanks Ralph, great topic. Such a noob to this, so looking forward to more info, but the end result is very cool!
Thats such a cool idea. Nice video man.
The developer of LaunchBox/BigBox is planning on adding more marquee features in the future... such as the ability to add videos and options to display other game specific media, as well as display options that you had to edit the xml file for. I have a 21:9 29" marquee monitor that I've just recently modified my marquee xml file. It displays the game marquee on the top 2/3 portion, and the lower 1/3 portion, it displays my Xtension arcade control layout per platform/game and the original controller for reference. It's pretty sweet.
Loving the vids, Retro Ralph. Keep up the great work - this seems easy enough to do! :)
Thanks for doing this one, very informative!
Wish they had a larger version for my Legends Ultimate cabinet. If they do please let me know!
ua-cam.com/video/nkqyPwec_r8/v-deo.html
Pretty sweet! Wish I could use this with my 60 in 1, but I'll definitely try this with my mame .
Great video brother! 👍
Appreciate it my dude!
@@RetroRalph You got it brother!
Man. That LCD frame looked cool. What happened to the guy selling them on Etsy?
This is a MOD is really awesome thanks for sharing.
Thanks for checking it out my wicked friend! I hope all is well!
@@RetroRalph Everything going fine buddy, busy like always... and you making video like this.
I don't want to know how much time you spend on making this video 😅
Love the end result maybe when I start my ultimate build ... i pick this up.. thanks for sharing the arcade passion 😎
Does anybody know if 8bitroots is going to be making any more of these frames? He's been sold out on Etsy for a little while and I haven't been able to contact him.
This is pretty sick man!
best mod ever, well done mr ralph, I really want this! I wonder if Arcade1up will release lcd marquees as part of their future cabs?
I don't know man, I think it might price out a lot of people as it's not a cheap proposition. Although with their buying power, they might be able to make it happen at some point. Great idea and thanks for watching!
Doubt they'd do that - figure they only include 4 games +/- per cab so adding the cost to have a dynamic marquee just to change the marquee for those doesn't really justify the expense ( It's a bit different when modding them.) THough it would be nice if a company or 2 would start doing that for multicades etc. - since that would get the LCD screen makers to perhaps start offering the stretched format screens at a more reasonable price if there was higher demand for them.
Very Nice! Thank you RR
Now all we need is LCD SIDE ART and an LCD KICK PLATE & 3 Sided LCD RISER ! Add LCD casino style buttons. Sure it will cost 5K...GO BIG OR GO HOME! Hey Ralph does this work with COIN-OPS easily? Not that familiar with Bigbox but I saw a COIN-OPS folder in the video but was not sure if you could somehow run COIN-OPS through BigBox to get the marquee to work on COIN-OPS unless there is an easier way somehow? As always great informative content!
That's sick!! Did you see arcade 1up is having a presentation as part of IGN's summer presentation?
I did, looks like this Sunday we need to play the speculation game on the 1up weekly! :-) Thanks for watching man!
Very cool review and marquee
Great video! Thanks for the suggestion.
You should be proud man I bit the bullet and bought a Aimtrak light gun along with a 32'upright 4 player control panel xtension arcade diy this is going to be one hell of a summer...I wonder if you can change those marquees out ...since work has been so slow Ive getting my roms ready
Damn dude, that's going to be a very fun summer!!! What did you go with for artwork?
@@RetroRalph Nothing yet but im sure I can add on might start a channel from box opening to gameplay course your vids helped with some ideas would u guys watch that
My brother made his own 5 - 10 years ago in his custom bartop cab and led lights that change color and layout per game. I chose not to have it in my modded 1up since it was more complicated and not neccessary given it is the TMMT cab I only wanted the TMNT lit marquee.
Can you add launch box and big box to a raspberry pi 4
My only complain is that the monitor is not IPS so color fades at an angle. You can see this in the star Wars cab as it angle more than A1UP standard cab.
Hey Ralphy, not sure if you'll see this or not, but if you do, after a year and a half, where do you stand with this vs the BitPixel?
I never bought a BixPixel because I personally didn’t like the way it looked. I preferred the look of an LCD screen displaying the original marquee images. Unfortunately, these are no longer being produced but you could always buy the LCD and make your own housing for it. It wouldn’t be a plug and play solution though.
Thanks so much for watching and for the comment. 🙏🏼
@@RetroRalph I'm with you on that about preferring the LCD look of the original marquees. I'm also not really a fan of animated marquees. Just looking for a high quality display of the original cab art. Thanks for the reply! :) Happy Holidays!
I just discovered this!!! But no updates in his shop 😢
I think I am late to the game
Enjoyed your video
Curious if you can help here
I just tried to add a 24 inch / 1920 x 360 VS display
using your method it fills top to bottom but only fills the 16 inch center leaving 4 inches on each end black
I tried to make my own file in Launchbox and edited the”stretch” to a “fill”
The screen remains with black borders on the ends
Have you seen this before ?
Brian, That's a great question, it's been a while and for the life of me I can't remember how to fix that issue. I'm familiar with it but my 42 yo brain is failing me right now.
@@RetroRalph unfortunately I have you by 10 years / leaves me way out then
Hey Ralph! What kind of micro computer do you need to do this? I'm assuming I couldn't do it with my Rpi 3b+. Have a full desktop running my large pedestal setup. But think this would be really cool for the arcade one up that I'm modding
I don't think you would want to use that, I was just using it for testing. It does run the retro games decent though. Here's the amazin Link: amzn.to/2XaE8aa
Cool thanks man! Anything special to note when getting one of the micro PC's you linked?
Any way of having three monitors with lunchbox???
Great vid Ralph! the second link in the description going to his Etsy shop
is missing its hyper link (not clickable)
I just ordered this exact same thing to put inside my pc case. But my own dumb ass didn't take into account that the length of my case is like 14 inches until it hits some metal frame inside. You think I can cut off a few inches from the metal from the side of this panel, or maybe just remove the metal border altogether? Thank you!
I need your help. Can this digital marquee be used on coinops next 2. Just buy this kit, right? Or do I need other kits?
He’s no longer selling the kit. 😕. I haven’t played with CoinOPS in a while, Im sure there are other solutions though.
My screen just stays white. I even got 2nd one to test. Any solution?
This is slick as sh**. Thanks for this video!
So this was filmed 7 months ago, how is the quality? Does it hold its value?
Hi retro Ralph!
I tried to buy the kit for Marquee from 8bitroots!
But they don't deliver to Canada ...
Or can I find a kit to put everything together?
Thank you
How does it connect to the Dell 2007fp upgrade monitor if possible?
Thx bro i am also fan of bigbox
Man so much modding to my machine already I don’t think my brain can handle anymore lol
It happens, it's kind of endless with all the options out in the community. As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters. Thanks for watching bud!
Retro Ralph yea its a blast I have to help all my buddies with their projects ever since they saw my cab. Can’t wait to add the shooter guns still lol.
Doesn’t stretching the image to fill the screen distort the aspect ratio?
What build is on that arcade1up cabinet? Power Stone was my favorite!
It's running Launch Box / Big Box, I put 35 games on it so it's just a custom build to show off the marquee.
@@RetroRalph Thanks for the reply. Keep up the good work!
I have a question I have a recroomasters Marquee with will the work with arcade one hyperspin
Ralph didn’t see that option to buy on his Etsy site.
This link should work for you... www.etsy.com/listing/800601737/dynamic-lcd-marquee-kit-for-arcade1up
Will this also work with Hyperspin? Looks fantastic
It will but this vendor is no longer selling them, You will have to source it elsewhere. Sucks but he's off on other projects now. I guess there wasn't enough interest. Thanks for watching!
Did the company that made this go out of business or something? Their store on Esty is basically gone.
I believe he stopped making them unfortunately 😕
Need a bigger one to fit ALU and work with coinops
Does this still work man, does the quality hold up?
This would be so cool if it was natively supported on AtGames ALU with the new firmware allowing more UCE files.
you do have to do both of them one is for platforms one is for games
This is so sick.
That is a cool mod, but sadly nothing about it in his store at the moment. If I did go this route I would like to mount it above my lit up marquee.
Can you install big box in any raspberry?
I already had a lcd marquee but this video was a game changer for me. I experienced the stretched marquees(removed the lcd and packed it away).
I thought it was because I could not select the 1280x390 resolution in my GPU.
Editing the theme files is a simple solution to a big problem I had. Can't wait to take this for a spin again.
Awesome man, let me know how it goes.
it would be great to work with CoinOPS !!! 🤔🤔🤔
Agreed, it would be a bit more complicated, let me look into options.
I don't think coinops supports dynamic marquee. I've seen it requested as a feature for next 2.
possibly after this information there will be someone to add this feature to CoinOPS Next 2
ArgCade I believe is already working in getting Coinops to work with a second screen. I believe he wants to add it to his Arcade vs Pinball vs Arcade build.
Regardless BigBox and Showbox is absolutely the most easiest Arcade Front end to work with I had actually spent months setting up Hyperspin with Rocketlaunch because of how involved it is, even setting up controls can be a pain, I am a PC guy and tbh Id rather pay someone to set that crap up. Eventually I want to create my own images that when you first start a game a tag file has the controls already labeled and you simply go through a script like the initial setup on Emulation Station where you simply assign controls in the easiest of manners, rather than having people screw around for hours and secondary programming.
For people getting started I always recommend just getting a Raspberry Pi, Now its a 4 with 4Gb in a canakit with a 512GB SD card, and I recommend Virtualman's 512 image, only thing it lacks is 3DO and PS2 while some systems are a bit thin on games its either they don't emulate well/at all or its a space limitation but you can add a harddrive and expand, or now Boot off something like a 1TB M.2 to USB3 Boot instead of the Microsd card and expand the later system limits to what the raspberry Pi4 is capable of.
Does the lcd marquee require a power adapter??
you modded the PERFECT Marvel cab!?!
I actually made it so I could reverse it easily if needed 👍🏻 although I’m not sure I will, I’m loving this!
Ralph...will this fit the legends ultimate?
Unfortunately not because the marquee on the ALU is rather large. There's a project called Pixelcade that is designed for the AtGames product.
It's got more of an 8-bit look but maybe it might be something you're interested in:
creativeartsandtechnology.com/product/legends/
@@RetroRalph I don't have a arcade legends yet but I was looking at that pixelcade if I get one. This LCD monitor looks awesome and I may have to buy an extra Arcade 1up to mod. Thanks for the video!
@@RetroRalph - Wonder if there is enough space between the 2 speakers on the speaker panel ( or if there would be if you moved the speakers ) to add one of the screens into that panel and leave the Legends Ultimate marquee in place
Is there one that will fit the legends ultimate?
How does this fit in an 27inch xarcade cabinet?
it doesn't it's built for an Arcade 1-Up only, which I believe is a 19in screen
Will this work on Coin Ops Arcadia?
Will this work worth retropie
Very cool!
Does it work with coinops?
Can it work for coin-ops
Awesome!!!
Hey Guys! I'ts Hair cut time. You're starting to look like Kramer man. JK Great Video
now someone design a kit for the 8" one we all yanked out of the countercades. Would be alot cheaper and sort of a DIY'er if we could get a kit to use it.
I have a countercade on the way and will see what happens. :)
@@chasecobb7988 outstanding. Appreciate you lookin into it. im modding mine with a 13.3" as a vertical build. Being able to use that 8" as a marquee would be great as well as cost efficient
SO is it only works on MAME Emulator??
Any emulator supported under launch box should be able to scrape the artwork and display on the Marquee. It's not limited to just Mame....
Now if they could just cut a monitor out the shape of cabinet sides and change the side art on every game
Maybe an arcade cabinet that dispenses hair gel? Just sayin.
I was expecting more heckling than this but when you have italian hair and it's long, you need to lube up to keep it down. LOL! Thanks for watching bud!
@@RetroRalph it's all good. I had to cut my own hair today, and it shockingly turned out alright. I think I'll still need hair gel tho. Ha! Good video as always. 👍
Need this for my rec room masters alpha bartop yeeee
You misspelled Phil.
FOUND MOMS HAIR BAND !!!
LOL!
Mr. RetroLust's Marquee Screen Filler Magic seems to work better than the “fill” configuration file edit. Check it out.
forums.launchbox-app.com/topic/46175-mr-retrolusts-marquee-screen-filler-magic/
WIsh you would stop doing reviews like this -- I didn't even know I needed the dynamic marquee and now you've made me spend another $70 to buy the 14.9" LCD to add it to one of my A1U cabs - i.postimg.cc/ZnkhMwbq/Capture.jpg ( Fortunately was able to find one on Ebay for $69 instead of spending the $118 but that's still another $70 you made me spend !!! )
One question for you - does the marquee case look odd with it being oversized and sticking over the top of the cab or is it not as noticeable as you'd think in person ? ( I'll probably build my own frame out of wood like I've been doing for the lit marquees and make it fit more like the original but was just wondering what you thought since you didn't mention it. )
Here is a monitor rotation example.
ua-cam.com/video/rRW33KbFttY/v-deo.html
@RetroRalph I have original Daytona USA 2 player cabinet and terminator 2 judgment day games for sale or trade if you know anyone interested
Dynamic marquees can be gorgeous...that one just isn’t imo... if it fit properly, I’d be into it. :/
Awesome mod but Dude you need a hair cut....
Yeah man, it's crazy, It just curls up no matter what I do... LOL! Thanks for watching!
