  • Tippi Hedren is speaking out about how she says legendary suspense director, Alfred Hitchcock ruined her career and once assaulted her after she refused to sleep with him. The Birds actress told Inside Edition: "It is the worst thing to be the object of someone's obsession if you are not interested. It became unbearable." Hedren was a struggling single mom with her young daughter Melanie Griffith when the Psycho filmmaker plucked her from obscurity to star in The Birds in 1963. #InsideEdition

      Be careful believing what people put in their autobiographies about now deceased people they had a run in with. From the biographies I've seen about Hitchcock he would obsess over blonds but actual sex with them was off the table. He clearly had a voyeuristic obsession first with Grace Kelly and then Hedren. The truth is probably much more nuanced and complicated. There's no record of sexual aggression with any of the many other women Hitckcock worked with.

    I salute Tippi Hedren for sticking up for herself. That she worked for Hitchcock in no way obligated her to engage in sex with him!
    I have read that Hitchcock sent her daughter a "gift" that was a doll made to look like Tippi -- in a little coffin.
    Hitchcock also engaged in practical jokes that were actually acts of viciousness. He slipped alcohol in the beverage of a woman who said she didn't want alcohol because she was allergic to it. He also trapped an actress in a phone booth contraption that he filled with smoke.
    The worst by far is that he made a "bet" with a humble property man by which he handcuffed the man to a camera and gave him a drink laced with a powerful laxative so the poor violated man spent the whole night befouling himself.

      Told Larry King in an interview some time before this if he had ever laid a hand on her, she said: "oh, nothing like that..." You can chalk this up to the man being dead, and her needing to juice up her book.
      What Alfred did was, after doing a couple movies together, he had probably fallen for her. And he waited until the end of the second movie to make a pass. She rebuffed, and he was perhaps upset. We can not know exactly what happened, but she had always been open about it, but with a different slant when writing the book.

      @plshelpmeawkdough 2 роки тому +4

      1: She was scheduled/contracted to appear in Marnie and it's still a job at the end of the day. 2: Directors and producers were able to get away with just about anything, look into the behind the scenes of the wizard of Oz and all the horror stories that came out that movie alone. Actors were pretty much just play things to most directors FYI that era who had way more power and control which is why you also have stories of guys like Kubrick physically and mentally tormenting they're own cast. All that wouldn't change till John Landis took it too far in the twilight zone movie.

      @@plshelpmeawkdough Don´t forget there is not one single producer in Hollywood who made his cast and crew suffer as much as that Lady Tippi Hedren did as a producer of ROAR ! Hedren says Hitchcock was a monster because he threw birds at her...well Hedren produced ROAR! and there were around 70 horrible attacks on cast and crew, her daughter was bitten in the face by a lion, her husband almost killed, the DP hurt horribly by one of the lions. She herself had been bitten by a lion in the head and brutally attacked by an elephant. And she went on and on exposing her family and crew to her big cats. But Mr. Hitchcock is a monster because one of the Birds scratched her cheek??? Hedren has to be judged according to her own standards. And as a producer of ROAR ! she was responsible for much more horrible animal attacks than the ones in The Birds.

      I disagree. She should have been able to speak up sooner but couldn't because of the culture and era. Staying quiet allowed him to sexually assault others and allowed that kind of behavior to continue in Hollywood and the world. I'm definitely not blaming her but society for not taking sex crimes more seriously. I don't agree with this "act like a lady and stay quiet" concept which leads to most sex crimes going unreported. It would not be a "witch hunt" but reporting a crime and actively seeking justice. The fact he was well-known should be irrelevant. Though he threatened to ruin her career, why shouldn't she return the favor?
