❤St. Francis of Assisi: Make me an instrument of your peace Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen. ❤❤❤❤
Last night this movie saved me. Netflix had recommended a movie about a woman who was demonically possessed. I started watching it and started to get depressed. Then out of nowhere I shut it off and remembered that I owned Brother Sun Sister Moon, but hadn't seen it in years. I started watching it instead and soon I found myself crying and sobbing. The purity, innocence, light, and beauty of this movie lifted my spirit and I was overwhelmed with a great joy. I feel better today than I have in months. We are being bombarded 24/7 with fear and the demonically possessed are everywhere in MSM, government, and the arts. I will no longer participate in their dark game and brainwashing. I am changing the type of movies I watch and what type of music I listen. I just bought the soundtrack to this wonderful film and am listening to Donovan sing the beautiful songs he wrote for this film. We will get through this folks. Focus on light, not darkness and you will see a BIG change in your life.
Franchesco is actually the most mystical person in Christian World after Jesus. He came as a second Jesus to change the medieval world which was in serious crisis. Many call him a 13th Apostle of Christ. So his influence even via movies is really mystical and strong too. We will need him always as we need Jesus in our souls. God bless!
Thank you for sharing that. It's hard for me to always see the good, as I tend to be melancholic, but you are right. We have a hope. And even if we don't know where things are going or why things change, He is unchanging. "Why art thou so heavy o my soul, and why art thou so disquieted within me? O put thy trust in God, for I will yet give him thanks, which is the help of my countenance, and my God." -Psalm 43: 5-6.
Só beautiful... The song and the film are unforgettable. I saw this film in 1972 when I was 17. Next month I'm going to 67 and the memories are still alive in my heart.
I was in Assisi many years ago. It was amazing like time stood still. His presense is still there. In the church the doves would fly on the statue in his hands.
I agree. I visited Assisi in 1983 and the sense of peace felt there was unlike anything I had felt anywhere else.. Sadly, years of ill-health have prevented me from returning.
I visited in 2003 & I felt the same way. It was as though I could hear this song during my stay there wherever I went. And when I went down into St. Francis tomb--deep/deep peace.
After being a Christian for 32 years I have finally found God. There was always a subtle beauty in this song but now that God is in my heart I also understand it and because of this the song's beauty has grown for me. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. God bless you and keep you
I wish humans will always be simple like this. Why so competitive, and ending up destroying the environment and tarnish humanity? It's also happening in churches, everyone trying to be better than the other, rather than supporting each other in sincere prayer.
One thing this movie truly captured was the immense freedom Francis felt when he followed the steps of Christ and chose the simplicity of life over the material one. I can say that it was Francis of Assisi that first showed me God and Christ in a way that made it understandable as a child. This movie really made me interested in Francis of Assisi, and Francis led me to better understand God.
I hope he have to he want to be her she says she even want to know where any clothes but his father and getting mad with him because he's doing something wrong. He wanted serving God with all its soul on was a beautiful movie from the beginning his star and like it s picture actor on he won two great day he say the brother song of the Sith them on know what's the moon has a sister but the song is half its only shine got in the middle of the day he says Sunshine for every nation the sunshine is God a mighty Lord Jesus is the song I wish you could see the whole movie because was Betty like a bear expressive in the word for God the who believe in God that he can make it better than everybody Walking with God brother
I had the same exact experience...I saw it as a young teen and it had a profound and lasting affect on me and to my understanding of God through the simplicity and perfection and beauty of nature. And also gave me a life-long love of St Francis and his writings. A beautiful movie.
In this scene Francis receives his mission to rebuild a decaying church and not just the fallen building but the spiritual Church of his time. Christ speaks to him from the crucifix over the altar. I am moved by the story of Francis and Clare, defying a worldly understanding how an man and a woman can love each other dearly and yet be just brother and sister in Christ. This anointed film brought many to the Franciscan Way- the Lord used it in the mid 2000s to change my life. God Bless everyone reading this🕊
Brother Sun and Sister Moon Brother Sun and Sister Moon, I seldom see you, seldom hear your tune Preoccupied with selfish misery. Brother Wind and Sister Air, Open my eyes to visions pure and fair. That I may see the glory around me. I am God's creature, of him I am a part I feel his love awaking in my heart Brother Sun and Sister Moon I now do see you, I can hear your tune So much in love with all that I survey
I watched this movie as a kid in high school, it still continues to inspire me, and I do hope the Church undergoes another reform like what Francis started
It really makes me tear up so much at 2:42 I can really see when our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ calls out to St. Francis to follow Him. Just like He did with His Apostles. I can seriously hear Jesus Christ telling Francis "Follow me, Francis". So beautiful and powerful. A powerful reminder that God can call us to follow Him through anything and even in the most humblest of things in our own lives. We just have to be willing to listen.
I adore St. Francis’ obedience and love for Christ as he gave up all his wealth and became poor yet contented and rich with God’s love. That His love is already enough.💕 St. Francis is my favorite Saint, along with the other Saints who followed his steps towards Christ like St. Padre Pio and one friar, Father Suarez, St. Francis’ friend. 💕 St. Francis of Assisi, Pray for us.🙏🏻
Isnt just a coincidence, i just browse it here in youtube just bcoz i wanted to hear the song, i just type Brother Sun & Sister Moon. Ive seen this movie wayback 3 yrs ago, everytime ive watch this movie it inspires me a lot to cope up my frustrations & depression. i never thought what exactly the FeastDay of St. Francis all i know it was on the month of October, thank u guys for letting me remind of. The lifestory of St. Francis inspires me to keep my faith strong! To God be the Glory ! ! !
I saw this little church last Wednesday and Thursday in Assisi absolutely an amazing experience, I'm a capuchin Franciscan third order and it makes you more emotional 😭 seeing the last part, seeing the character of Saint Francis seeing the St Francis Cross which is in the Basilica of St Clare in Assisi.
This film really touched me to be drown into the light of the Lord and show love to the poor😢😪😪. Let the Lord guide you by your heart now and forever and ever
I first saw this in about 1976, while I was part of a small Christian fellowship in Miami that, unfortunately, gravitated toward the direction of the Waco Texas cult and finally disbanded in about 1991. It was as moving an experience then as it is today. A beautiful production!
I heard this song way back then being sung by our youth choir during mass. It was truly a wonderful song and the music was quite relaxing. It feels you good
I watched this movie many times when growing up in the COG, I have a feeling of mixed hatred and love for this movie. But the underlying passions and cinematography are absolutely outstanding!
i am not catholic, but this film touched me when I was 16 and still touches me now that i am 49. the pope and all the members of the vatican should more often watch what simple christianity apart from trying to inherit gold and diamonds from old people for the church can do for people's lives. greetings from austria
We can reach out to Jesus by aproaching lovingly to all our brothers on Earth. Beautiful song , superb movie and deep lovingful message beyond religion.
This movie has been one of the pivotal moments in my life. By it, I didn't become a monk or join the Catholic Church, but I gained a perspective of our Lord's influence on all things right and holy. The songs may sound corny to some viewers, but they are the force behind the major transformation of Brother Francis. The papal scenes were a part of Brother Francis' desire to know the truth, whether he had done anything to upset the Father. After all, who did he have in his life as a mentor. No one. There wasn't a truly spiritual person in his entire village to help guide him in spiritual matters as he began his work to build that old chapel, San Damiano. Nevertheless, look what it became under his guidance and loving care of God's lowly sons and daughters. He and his brothers had drawn in all the poor, showing as Jesus did, that it is more blessed to give than to receive. The Spirit of God was revealing Himself to Francis God's heart, with an outpouring of His Holy Spirit, displayed by his pure and kind acts toward mankind. I love how well this movie shows the deepest need in today's churches, to die to oneself and to live for others. It is very well exemplified by Sister Clare's confession to Francis, "I don't want to understand, I want to understand. I don't want to be loved, I want to love." What a most profound heavenly vision that is. It is not as greatly imparted to all who believe in Christ, yet it remains a very special spiritual gift, and in Clare was rooted deeply in her soul. I will forever return to this movie when In need of a perspective that is Christ's alone. It is not mixed with the battling of doctrinal issues prevalent among today's Christian sects, but instead, is a true awakening of the very nature of God. I applaud the producer and cast director for all their many choices to bring about such a wonderfully living experience, compelled initially by the disillusionment of war, but furthered by Brother Francis' insistence to find the truth. His conversion, once he believed, was the catalyst through which the populace viewed his actions and achievements, not for his own glory, but for the glory of God. Truly the top event, IMO, was introduced by the hands of the misunderstood. Francis was being pushed far away from the Catholic Church of that time. It was characterized by a very weak view of Christ's mission. In so many movies today, all that can be seen are the representatives of the clergy portrayed as being nothing more than weaklings, with no depth of character, men void of answers, and fearful of questions. Evil onlookers wanted the brethren to be broken into pieces, to prove to Francis' small group that it is impossible to live the true meaning of the gospel. The men surrounding the Pope were thinking Francis could be used to return the lowly to the Catholic church through their works such as the giving of tithes, which is what one of the self-righteous men on the sidelines of the Pope's cabinet was referring to when he said the Pope knew what he was doing when he bent down to kiss the feet of Francis. To that self-serving deacon, Francis' arrival was a step necessary to bring back to the Catholic Church the low class, naïve, spiritually vulnerable, and little educated brothers and sisters. Bringing them back to the Church would keep the Pope exalted. As it was a day not yet revitalized by the revelation of grace, Francis, with his following underlings, a band of understudied and lesser advanced, brothers, grew despite the lack of Christian universities. Instead, it was purely through the inworkings of the Spirit of God that they were doing good deeds and transforming in character. Again, I applaud the entire cast and leadership for bringing us the best of the heart of God.
I love the story of Saint Francis and to see the shrines of both church in Assisi of St.Clare and St.Francis wow amazing out of this world. God Bless both of them ,great people whom we should all pray too for help in todays hard world, God Bless and may Our Lady protect us through them both,
I was in high school when we saw the movie I never forgot the song , and the very strong emotions I felt with this movie, tot op vandaag zit dat lied in mijn hoofd , de film is vervaagd maar dat lied nooit !
I also first viewed this film as a 15-year old student. The song stuck with me. It wasn't until many, many years later, upon hearing the song again that I recognized the singer as Donovan (having not known of him as a kid). Great film and song!
Is it not interesting that simple faith is the best faith which to live life. It is also the faith that touches my heart and gets past my barriers before I can get them up. Thank you St Francis and St Claire for showing us the way of Jesus Christ and how to practice simple Christianity here on earth.
IOn this movie, my favorite line is: "Father, all treasures are in heaven! Dont be imprisoned with all this earthly trasures! Just throw them away!" When he throwed the cloths which was his father's business! So true.
I’m a proud catholic , during my childhood religion was a key part of my upbringing and life and for my family too , I kind step away from it and became a doubter , but after my mothers death I became a devout catholic again
I m prying to go Assisi this year , st Fransisco is the power from god who help poor people same like what we have now in Lebanon father majdi helping to , May god protect like those people
Thanks, for posting this wunderful film with this beautiful music -- god bless you all -- **Gabriella** -- dear greetings from Austria (Österreich-- Leonding,OÖ)
This film is so respectful of medieval people, showing them as like us in fundamental ways but also different because of the social and religious institutions and beliefs they navigated. It's hard to know how well we can reconstruct the medieval frame of mind but I suspect this film is on the right track.
Donovan was absolutely the right man for the soundtrack! Combined with Franco Zeffirelli's masterful direction and the film is a masterpiece. Thanks for posting.
Genomic and I tell you which one I what kind of movie are What is the characteristic on this mobile remind me morphine that have to be explained so you can understand that worth of God that's why all the movie that I get all they ever seen is my weapon to show everybody how strong is my Father in heaven that's what I draw so much that I can't don't believe myself
"I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God. I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit."
I have this movie on VHS and watch it at least once a month---can anyone remember without --research- the director of this movie and the importance of this person to opera and particularly to the MET.----This movie is simple--basic-and enlightening---giving the viewer a sense of peace in the reality of a living and loving God---

where there is injury, pardon;

Good luck with that
May God be with you.
Thank you both ☺️God bless you
May God go with you
Wow, that's rare nowadays, isn't it? How many new nuns and monks do join them.? All the best! God bless you. I am monk too. Hare Krishna...
I am an atheist and yet I can still live and learn by the lessons of St. Francis. His message is humble, and true.
Why do you call you yourself atheist then?
I absolutely agree!

So true, you said it simply.. simple
He was such a wonderful man. A special soul. My favourite saint.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! THE SONG IS SO MOVING, SO TOUCHING!

Such PRECIOUS movie!!!!!!!!!! Full of goodness and purity!!!!!!! EXTRAORDINARY!!!!!
I haven't seen more beautiful movie. This is such a great film! Bravissimo Zeffirelli :-)
Zeffirelli is a fabulous director!! In the late '60s he directed Romeo & Juliet on location in Italy and it was wonderful!! :)
Donavan BITES though...should have been the Clash!!!
Now you are lying..! There was perhaps one - The Ten Commandments by Cecile De Mille!
brother Francis is in heaven right now and he is shining like a star on the sky of Church.
I watched this movie as a kid in high school, it still continues to inspire me, and I do hope the Church undergoes another reform like what Francis started

I also first viewed this film as a 15-year old student. The song stuck with me. It wasn't until many, many years later, upon hearing the song again that I recognized the singer as Donovan (having not known of him as a kid). Great film and song!
Same hear....I heard when I was in school
And song touched
When films were art...
Is it not interesting that simple faith is the best faith which to live life. It is also the faith that touches my heart and gets past my barriers before I can get them up. Thank you St Francis and St Claire for showing us the way of Jesus Christ and how to practice simple Christianity here on earth.
26th Sept. 2013 - Happy Birthday to you Graham Faulkner, who portrayed St. Francis so beautifully. Be well and be happy wherever you are.
Gracias, Francisco, en este día que recordamos tus obras santas para la Iglesia, en una época convulsionada y agitada como la nuestra. Amén.
this song really touches my heart and inspires me in my vacation.
Darkness is the absence of light. As Toby Mac says, " it's time to make this 3rd rock glow"!!! ( from song "Light shine Bright") God bless us ALL🙏🙏🙏😇😭
May with the god be with you Saint Francis. We will loved and care the world. The god who created our beautiful world. BTW the song was beautiful
I will continue living in the spirit of St Francis of Assisi and I believe I will enter in the third order because Francis of Assisi he inspired alot.
May God bless me through this song 🙏🏿
You changed my life by example my St. Francis of Assisi .... Glory to God :)

If i'm happy (so REALLY happy) I sing this song... like now =)
God is great!
Going back to Assisi in November 3rd and 4th looking forward to it again especially when I'm now a professed Franciscan third order member
Two movies by Franco Zeffireli - Romeo & Juliet and this film are true classics of our time

Hallelujah God is with us Hallelujah
Awesome, touching, holy ♡
