"im an actor who can fight, not a fighter who can act"
I like that
That was the different between Jet Li and Jackie Chan
Cillian Murphy has a similar philosophy with being an Irish actor, he’s an actor who just happens to be Irish not an Irish actor (for the longest time prior to him and a handful of actors Irish people only got cast in Irish roles, I mean it still happens to Unknowns but because of him Irish people can actually break into other roles)

so confused why Jackie still wondering how people in every part of the world know him. 😂
He was so baffled!!!
that is one man who is not full of himself, that why
Not long ago, there were (almost) no TV, or video, or internet in large parts of Africa. Music was on cassette tapes. I worked there in 1988-89. A different world compared to europe of course, but also to african cities of today.
haha it's called Chinese Humility. even if we are proud of our achievements, we have to act like it was luck. if we try and do the swag thing, our own ppl will crucify us for being arrogant. non-chinese are allowed to have swag. it's cool, it's hot. our own kind? nooooooo. haha
Called being humble!😂
"I am the actor who can fight, I am not the fighter who can act." This statement rightfully clarifies his desperation for what he wanted for himself.
I once met Jackie completely by accident. I was was standing outside a radio station with a group of friends when he arrived for an interview and he thought we were waiting to meet him. I have to say he was one of the sweetest, most sunshiny people I've ever been around. He radiates light and joy in a way very few people do and it strikes you instantly. It makes you feel like if you could just be in the same general vicinity he is, nothing could ever be bad in the world. It was remarkable, really.

At this point he's become a global treasure
So true
Not to Taiwan and Hong Kong, who are fighting to retain some freedom from China.
Yeah the Chinese government is pretty corrupt and Jackie Chan gets paid by them to help propaganda. So there's that
Indeed
Tia Williams I dunno about that. We Taiwanese people love Jackie. Is there a reason we shouldn't? Is he involved with the Chinese government in some way? (I genuinely do not know)
Jackie is the most CUTEST human in the world and no1 can argue with me.
He just gets more and more handsome!
He's the nicest & humblest martial artist and actor in the world!
I agree! He's a great actor because in the movies he's all fierce and serious I never thought he'd be so bubbly and adorable in real life

Because that revolution killed MILLIONS of lives, so it’s NOT an evolution.

Jackie's school is literally what we imagined schools in China to be like.
Ikr😂
His shifu is Yu Zhanyuan, that’s not a school hon, neither an opera school in western definition, the type of role he studied in Peking Opera requires excellent martial art, normally a Wusheng will need to perform backflip on three piled table, but no one is as good as him. And during the transition period when film is more prevalent than Peking opera, he got chosen as actor. That learning path is unique for Peking opera performer, not everyone in “school” is like that, I’m sorry if this breaks your racist stereotype of China and Chinese educational system tho.
Not anymore, but 10 years ago yes

I mean, not only did he literally manage to provide a reason to watch Stephen Colbert (for a small portion of the show.. the rest can remain in the garbage aka it can continue *_not_* entertaining people on anti-comedy central)... but through performing actual miracles... Jackie actually made it tolerable and unbiased for once, on top of that! which, just that _alone_ is a feat that *no one* has ever been able to accomplish until now (and more than likely, in fact.. almost certainly, never will again. unless Jackie Chan comes back on of course, but with any luck, the show will have already been canceled for a long time by then!)

Jackie Chan is such a positive representation of Chinese culture. As a Chinese I don't get why so many people are obsessed with what is going on in his private life. He is a treasure and we all should be appreciating his presence as an Asian figure in World movie industry.
Pimpball i agree, i could care less about the politics.
I disagree. I couldn't care less about his kung fu movies. Torturing political prisoners, killing tibetians and uighurs, harvesting organs from peaceful falun gong meditation practitioners, that is what CCP does and Jackie Chan is partly responsible. #whereisgao and stoporganharvest.com Also CCP is building coalplants on developing countries so that's about it for china's fight against global warming.
What about the US government killing civilians overseas, extracting huge profits from third world countries, should you not endorse patriotism towards America? Also, he wouldn't even be able to appear on any form of media in China is he doesn't endorse the CCP. Endorsing CCP in China is not like endorsing some political party in US. It does not mean that he whole heartedly supports everything they did, rather than just a perfunctory act.Think about it like people believing in Christianity, while the bible attacks homosexuality, or Islam which oppresses women. It doesn't mean they totally agree with whatever they are endorsing. Politics in China works very differently cause the party is viewed as the government. There's not a lot of things he can to avoid being completely banned from Chinese media. And I personally still want to see him in China. Blame the people in power, don't blame him.
Pimpball 100% right

Give him more serious roles!
Quit that "Oh chinese man, make him fight!" thinking.
You should check some of his Chinese films like Police Story 2010 and 1911. They put Chan in a very serious role without any comedy. Although you might want to skip 1911 if you're not into historical movies. In terms of western movies, it's only the Foreigner that has Jackie in a serious role.
Police story is awesome, but western media only portrays him as a action comedy star.
This movie was quite serious even with the action
You know, you just said something that I said a while ago.
