    Let’s be clear though, this creates a look that is well beyond the apparent sensor size of an LF, that’s only slightly larger than full-frame.
    Great work and a very cool additional take on the speedboosting of full-frame cameras!

    Loved this video. A really nice explanation of this technique.
    I work in the video production industry as a sound recordist. I know a lot of your SPC films you do a VO or ADR for the dialog. I would too with all that gear on the actors and the amount of movement you have them doing in tight quarters.
    Anyhow, thanks for your films! Your love for what you are doing is obvious.

    I have many questions when comes to gear you use.
    Kinda would hope for gear to be tad more futuristic considering foundation surely giving their MTF gear
    Current gear might belong to G.R.U. Division "P" in my opinion, and would be interesting to see other MTF equivalent of competing organizations interacting with main cast.

    Compression is a function of perspective, not lens length. In your example at 3:56, you could accomplish the same difference by removing the 75mm lens, and putting on a 40mm lens. The "compression" would not change because nothing is physically closer or further away. What you're actually doing is a roundabout way of getting a low f-stop at a wide focal length. Bokeh and image detail are advantages of large format, but the "compression" thing is not true.

    Thanks a lot for this! Quick question: How wide can you go with the slr magic 1.33 adapter to work? Does for example the SMC Pentax 55mm f4 or even the 45mm work, or does it give vignetting because the angle of the 55 is to wide for that? I heard you mention that you had more lenses of this lineup. Much appreciated.

    • @retrodigital9064
      @retrodigital9064 3 роки тому

      I've tried it on both and there is vignetting, on the 55mm I just use clear image zoom by 1.2x and it solves it. 45mm isn't necessary IMO

    • @aukehamers
      @aukehamers 3 роки тому

      @@retrodigital9064 Great! Thanks for the info. In the meantime I had the chance to try it out on a 45mm. Not worth it. It vignettes like crazy as expected.

    You should grind your own glass. It's not a task outside the realm of common people, i've been grinding all my glass for my telescope for three years now (edit: felt i should mention, it didn't take me 3 years, an average 40 cm mirror takes about two months, my smallest lens two weeks at around 4 cm). That lens isn't exactly good by telescope standards. Just my 2 cents.

    • @fricki1997
      @fricki1997 2 роки тому

      To make a decent lens, you'd need something between two (achromat) over four (tessar) to six (dagor/plasmat) lens elements that are all correctly ground, assembled, and, if you have more than six air-glass surfaces, also coated.
      I don't think this is doable without a small factory; grinding a single telescope lens or mirror is much simpler by comparison in terms of optics.

    OMG that's not how optics work at all! You're getting so many things wrong it's hard knowing where to begin!
    Take a Takumar 67 75mm f/4.5 and add a focal reducer with a 0.7x multiplier to it. It will thus give you the exact same FoV as a ~52mm lens (on a Full Frame sensor), and the same amount of background blur as a ~52mm @ f/3.5. There's absolutely nothing special about that whatsoever! You don't get more background "compression" out of it, because background "compression" isn't a function of either the lens or the sensor size, but rather a function of the distance between the entrance pupil of your lens, the subject and its background. Sensor / negative size doesn't "compress" your background!
    Why you would use a Takumar 67 75mm f/4.5 lens when there is an abundance of vintage glass native 50mm made for 135 film which will give you similar optical characteristics is beyond me.
