Thank you so much for posting this. I first became acquainted with Dr. Johnson about 4 months ago, and that's an interesting and numenous story all it's own, but I think maybe THIS story was the reason he found me, in a most unlikely place.
This is an awesome lecture. For what it’s worth I live about an hour away from a Paiute Reservation in Oregon. The story likely takes place near the Silvies River: a tiny river that doesn’t make it to the Ocean, but rather winds up landlocked in the Malheur Lake.
This is exactly how it works. The Individuation Process that everyone should accomplish at some point in adult life, detach from the external collective of whatever culture one inhabits and reunite with the internal collective, the Logos, which as Heraclitus said “is common to all.” Then one is guided from within. It is reuniting with God. However, it is a dangerous process and requires a guide. It is the Middle Way proscribed by Religion, Philosophy, and Psychology. It is a balancing act between the inner life and the outer environment or culture. Not easy but well worth the effort. The inner collective alone can be deadly, if identified with, as can the outer collective alone, if identified with. The Middle Way is the solution, the answer to how to live.
What surprised me (haven't heard the discussion yet) is how passive 1-2 man was in the demise of old stone church. I thought he was going to take his ancestral axe, after the two daughters and the cyclopean antelope had been despatched by his friends, confront old stone church face to face, and cleave him from head to foot. Interesting.
It is so true …. The most of fundamental my believes how to live in life comes from my grandmothers and elder woman the family calls Abha or abba we used to say and children were sitting and she used to tell very interesting stories from life and it’s living puzzles…..beautiful times in the village surrounded with high mountains…. ….🌞
My grandmother wasn’t a shaman ( maybe arm. Lang . has different word - they were more like chiropractor ,😂even if broken leg they ( their family called as healers as last name ). and she taught me the herbs and grass - and different modalities to heal anything possible at the moment , because of No Doctor…( and if there nothing to eat -what to eat from the nature that it will heal you too ….)..everything is out there … just most of the time know nothing ….🌞

What happened at 47:46 ?
There was a loud sound whose timing seemed to be timed perfectly with Robert's statement.

Why are these the only two choices?
I don't know. But Robert considered it an observable phenomena.
So true ….That’s very bad approach …..🌞
