    Dude I'm a nurse that started at 19 with a mother that is a nurse and in just two years I have founds that I see these consistencies you are describing. I have found through personal meditation that I have been manipulating those signals to understand how a person is truly feeling and basing my next response on their response. The end of a simple conversation/assessment I can consistently understand how people really feel and help them understand it as well.
    Stress is the true cause of illness and poor nutrition for an individual causes toxicity I believe after being in western medicine I've become to believe in the power of eastern influence. Only certain water sacks with the correct experiences and diet/bacterial flora can project chi

    Even though thoughts don't show any signals, emotions can be generated by thoughts, so i can't know exactly what you're thinking, obviously, but i know the kind of thought you had based on the signals generated by the emotion as a reaction to your thought.

    Hey Paul, I love your work, I remember when I was young I saw the magician "Derren Brown" on TV, I always wondered how much of that was true but I was determined to find out. I started off by attempting some of the tricks without any knowledge to see what I could find out (I was quite naive), however I noticed there was patterns people displayed, over time I acquired books and knowledge which eventually lead me to Silvan Tomkins and your work, its really amazing and so few people (even psychologists I know, know about you). At the moment, I have about 5 of your books but I have only just started reading them, it's really cool to see you on youtube. =]

    I find presentations like this ironic because, while I agree that the study of emotions is important and an under-appreciated field, unless you use your findings to become more rational and honest about them, you won't become happier or more successful. Emotions should be understood but not disproportionately justified simply for their own sake. But if you use your understanding of them to become more rational, then you'll be good.

    It's messed up when you click on a video about mastering emotions and the ad that plays is for vodka.

      There's no point playing poker if you can't calculate the probability of the other people losing instantly in your head.

    • @zone07
      @zone07 11 років тому

      benblue3 You should definitely play poker if you can calculate the emotional probability that a person will muck his/her hande. Looks like this guy can tell what a person is holding without having to look at their cards but simply knowing how they feel about them. Poker has little to do with the cards' mathematical probability of a winning hand; many pots are won without a player showing their hand.

    Well... it's not really something you need to learn. All normal humans can read emotions. And part of being a nice human being is not paying to much attention to other peoples small feelings of insecurity and so on. I'm not impressed by this.

      My point is it was once 6, then it s was 11, now it is 7, and actually it is probably none of those because a. the experiments didn't show universality, just statistical significance which is quite something else and b. many other experiments and investigations by many other people have shown that emotions cannot be reduced in such a way.

  • @socint74
    @socint74 11 років тому

    Simplistic nonsense. Firstly Ekman uses the term emotion when he means thoughts and feelings(not the same thing). Emotion is a physiological process initiated via the amygdala when we interpret an event or some aspect of the environment as threatening or promising whereby we undergo changes appropriate to coping in our best interests. How we feel during and following such changes are represented by thoughts feelings
    moods and appropriate behavior. "Controlling" emotion, per se, is patently absurd. We may only, through insight, learning and use of logic, better handle the impact of experiencing emotion.
