Thanks for going into grip fighting details. The basics are important. Sure, it's not as flashy as the big throws but it's as important as learning how to pummel in wrestling/ hand trapping and footwork in boxing.
Any info or aspect is good only a fool pushes away reasonable tactics. basics are so important foot work knowledge is how i ended up here .also love the vids mad respect 🙏 😊
This is absolutely superb. 30 years on and off, with 8 years regular competitive as a junior, and 3 years competitive at county level as a senior without knowing these fundamentals. Thanks.
OMG, yes please! I know the grips might not seem as glamorous to newer people, but watching your videos on gripping made it so much easier for me do a throw in real sparring. Also, do you have recommendations on how to grip the sleeve from neither person having any grips? I often try to catch the end of the opponent's sleeve, but it's usually very sloppy so I tend to just give up on it and just get a lapel grip first.
Please more fundamentals of grip fighting! Many coaches don’t teach it and expect us to learn through experience, but having a basic idea of what goals to work towards has really improved my randori
A boring video? No way! This is among the most important videos. I don't know how anyone is going to win without a good grip. To add my 0.5 cents: when your grip tightens the biceps, it blocks the blood flow, and your opponent gradually is loosening his grip. The longer he is holding, he weaker his hand is getting.
Noob question: Can you collar tie in Judo? How would you compare the strength of a wrestling collar tie and a lapel grip? Should you always go for lapel/sleeve or do wrestling grips ever trump gi grips?
I love this boring judo! The intricate details are hard to explain and you do it well. Its funny, i was trying to explain this exact thing to my son yesterday. UA-cam must be listening.
Thanks for the details. I felt a few months ago that my grip was weak and my grip fighting game was retarded, I'm working on it and watching instructional and this is highly important.
What are your strategies for the sleeve when (usually larger) opponents have a high collar grip? Also, very stoked for the "second most boring" follow up video on the lapel :)
This was 1000% the opposite of boring. Please give us more. Would be cool to learn about what changes in a bjj setting, ie adjustments for generally less sleeve material to grip, or different postures from wrestler or guard puller stances.
YES please on the lapel grips. My school does traditional judo and we don't work on stuff like this as often, because most students don't even join in on sparring classes.
oh man! this is anything but boring shintaro. thank you for sharing these tidbits! love it mate! :) This is good stuff- been struggling with how to get and control sleeve grips.
i was searching yesterday a similar video (i think its in a strategy video) where you explained how to grip this way in your channel, thanks for this detail, its very important for me, i couldnt figure out what the thumb does
You are a genius. I can’t believe you thought this video would not be interesting or popular, it is very helpful. Keep doing videos like this, more people appreciate it than you think
Please more "boring" videos. Thank you. 🙂
And a podcast on gripping and gripfighting would be great too!
Thanks for going into grip fighting details. The basics are important.
Sure, it's not as flashy as the big throws but it's as important as learning how to pummel in wrestling/ hand trapping and footwork in boxing.
footwork in boxing is quite flashy though. But ofc you're right, these details make a huge difference
Any info or aspect is good only a fool pushes away reasonable tactics. basics are so important foot work knowledge is how i ended up here .also love the vids mad respect 🙏 😊
Almost never see solid basics like this. As a beginner, I really appreciate the pointers. Thanks!
This is absolutely superb. 30 years on and off, with 8 years regular competitive as a junior, and 3 years competitive at county level as a senior without knowing these fundamentals. Thanks.
I would like to see the lapel video. Interesting stuff for people like me that are transitioning from wrestling to judo.
Yep very boring indeed and I have watched couple times already.
Great video. The use of the thumb to control the wrist is a great tip!
Great video and not boring at all. Grip fighting is a complex topic. Keep up the good work!
You say its boring but its so fundamental and you need to know it. It won't feel boring when it translates to getting throws in randori etc
One of the best videos.

Is that a black belt on George?! Congratulations George!
Brilliant video. I'm a 1st kyu and have competed and won local comps but my game is definitely missing basics like this.
please more videos like these!!!!
I appreciate the nuance.
Thank GOD for this! Thank you for the intricate vids.
Awesome. Love the details.
This was super interesting. Also helpful
Funny you say this video is boring. I find it quite interesting and I think many others would agree
I love the intricacies of grip fighting more on this please
not boring at all sensei, fundamentals are important, you need to know how to 2 + 2 before you can physics so to speak
Huge thank you sensei, it seems the more 'boring' the subject the more important it is! Yellow belt here and going, oss.
This is great, more boring videos please! Lapel grip stuff would be helpful for me

Please more fundamentals of grip fighting! Many coaches don’t teach it and expect us to learn through experience, but having a basic idea of what goals to work towards has really improved my randori

Great video. Possibly the greatest. No /s
Noob question: Can you collar tie in Judo? How would you compare the strength of a wrestling collar tie and a lapel grip? Should you always go for lapel/sleeve or do wrestling grips ever trump gi grips?
Nice video. Tkx from Brasil. By the way, do you have some grip tips to avoid pulling guard?
More boring Judo videos, please.
Thanks for the video! Very helpful
Gripping happens in small seconds
thx for this instructional video always return to the fundamentals as little details are what make the differences.
Much appreciated these details! Keep them coming; these “boring” vídeos!
Please make a lapel hand video we need it
Give me the lapel hand video please
Meh boring, but super insightful!. This is the finer less exciting points of good judo!
93 likes in an hour! The channel is definitely growing that’s awesome
Thank you so much for a great video. I needed it.😀
Chadi and you are the centuries martial arts philosophers, and that's what thrives.
Collect, fold = gold
Thanks for sharing, always happy to find good quality technique adivices 👍
Ty man so mutch
I have A.D.D. I get bored very easily. and to tell you the truth, it makes studying martial arts complicated. I learn slow.
I have adhd and people like us are almost 90% kinetic learners. Which means you have to go physically do it. Be physically shown it. Hope it helps
@@johnhaworth7034 yes. I remember when I was little kid... my karate teacher had trouble teaching me to kick properly.
Sensei, can we please have the lapel hand too?
This is great, Thank you. Instead of grip and pull out the slack, it's a grip and press.
This is my favourite video! These videos focusing on fundamentals are wonderful
Very nice. Although this is the part of Judo I dislike the most. To many fingerjoints ruined for a lifetime 😒
I love this boring judo! The intricate details are hard to explain and you do it well.
Its funny, i was trying to explain this exact thing to my son yesterday. UA-cam must be listening.
The most useful "boring" video ever 😃 thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Thanks for the details. I felt a few months ago that my grip was weak and my grip fighting game was retarded, I'm working on it and watching instructional and this is highly important.
This boring video has numerous tips that can improve anyone’s grip fighting. Keep them coming sir.
As a white belt who consistently has to go against experienced black belts, grabbing sleeve is incredibly hard for me.
The best boring video on grip fighting! Thank you! Very useful.
Not boring ( as you claimed as a joke ). I thank you a lot for this outstanding content.
Not boring at all. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Can you explain how to fold the sleeve when grabbing in a specific way?
okay boring video, but i can't wait to implement those changes in randori
What are your strategies for the sleeve when (usually larger) opponents have a high collar grip?
Also, very stoked for the "second most boring" follow up video on the lapel :)
These little details make the difference when go against someone close to your level.
The fact that this video is longer than the throws and other videos average run time it should be apparent there is more to this than meets the eye.
Just starting out, and this was what I needed to see. Boring = good for beginners
great!
Its the boring details that makes you better, always
I would have wagered anything that you’d toss in a throw at the end… oss!
yes! Lapel side, please love the details as much as the other stuff.
Im not a judoka but this is very useful for us kenshis
Most important shit is the small stuff.
Not boring to me at all. You are talking judo, after all.
Not boring, awesome, greetings from Tbilisi
Awesome, thats a rare kind of instruction to find on yt
These detail videos are huge thank you.
ok learned a lot. its valuable wisdom.
Would love a similar video for lefties like me!
Not boring at all.
This was 1000% the opposite of boring. Please give us more. Would be cool to learn about what changes in a bjj setting, ie adjustments for generally less sleeve material to grip, or different postures from wrestler or guard puller stances.
great value thank you
HOW ABOUT WITHOUT SLEEVE ?
Awesome pro technique!
next boring video, please
YES please on the lapel grips. My school does traditional judo and we don't work on stuff like this as often, because most students don't even join in on sparring classes.

Shintaro! Thank you much for all your great videos. I also appreciate your sense of humour and easy way of showing hard things
This “boring” video just opened up so much in my BJJ. Thank you!!!
Love your instruction! We must be brilliant at the basics if we are to achieve true mastery, and you are a true master! Thank you! Osu!
i was searching yesterday a similar video (i think its in a strategy video) where you explained how to grip this way in your channel, thanks for this detail, its very important for me, i couldnt figure out what the thumb does
Thank you 💪 💪 💪 👍 👍 👍
Shintaro this was very helpful! Just the right amount of “boring”
I am always fascinated by kumikata/grip fighting details. Love to see it.
Great video! Now I understand why I got finger pain after training judo/bjj 😄
Criminally underrated
You are a genius. I can’t believe you thought this video would not be interesting or popular, it is very helpful. Keep doing videos like this, more people appreciate it than you think
