Great comparison as usual. Tough choice for me. As it stands the X3 would be my choice bc the Mercedes is due for a replacement. I also prefer the BMW driving dynamics, and overall styling.

I just bought a 2021 GLC 300 and it is a beautiful vehicle with an amazingly smooth ride and luxurious interior. I traded in my BMW X3 which always had a very hard ride. At this point in life, I am more concerned with not feeling every bump in the road.

I am ONLY interested in a deal, regardless of the product. It comes down to ‘money in, money out’. I think that they are both fine examples of entry level German engineered SUVs. Besides, most people can’t tell one model year to the next. So its not which is cheaper, but rather which one can one get a sweet enough...‘deal’ on. Thanks for the video.

  • @Alyssa.Hansen

I’m 100% interested in the deal. Ironically I like the look of the GLC on the outside, but like the interior of the X3 more. Backseat space is super important to me for rear facing child seats and trunk space. Because of the deal factor, I’ll most likely go with the GLC. When will the new revamped models be hitting dealership lots? Any advice on best time of year/strategy to get an older model to score a better deal?

I just got a 2021 X3 and love it. The drive is great and the steering is responsive with a slight stiffness to the suspension but nothing to get upset over. Love the interior and the iDrive system is easy to use. My only gripe so far is I find the sound system lackluster. My wife has a 2020 GLB and we both love the MB lineups - it just worked out as a better deal to get the X3. Great reviews and thanks for your unbiased inputs.

@@doomsday9973 Well, I'd say it would depend on what kind of cargo you expect to have. But, to be honest, since it's just my wife and I and I would expect you will have more than I would, I would say it may possibly be a challenge, especially if folding the rear seats down isn't an option. The X5 may be the next option up if you want to compare CF specs on the cargo areas.

I can't speak to the current model, but I own a 2017 Mercedes GLC COUPE, which I purchased new in April 2017. I still love nearly everything about it. It is beautiful (and while I know there are changes in the newer models, they honestly don't look that different to me). The performance is good, it is roomy, and it has been incredibly reliable. Some folks complain that there is less cargo space in the Coupe, but think space is more than sufficient. I say all of this as a Mercedes loyalist; this is my fourth new Mercedes. This is my favorite of the all, and I plan to keep it forever! I would imagine the newer version is just as wonderful or better, if that is even possible. #MercedesGLC

Coming from an architecture background, i appreciate the time it takes for designers to resolve curvilinear and smooth surfaces into a cohesive design that has a classy appeal. As another architectural designer, I was sold by the design of the GLC300 and purchased a 2021 about a month ago. The interior is hands down one of the most cohesively executed cockpits. The attention to symmetry in the center console, the use of real buttons for everyday functions and the rich colors and style for the infotainment graphics are stunning. I could go on and on, but I want to get back in and drive it again.

Compared to the x3, X1 has more leg rooms front and back, made in Germany vs USA, much more reliable according to Consumer report, better fuel economy and 10% lighter. Compared to the GLC, the trunk space of GLC is just tiny compared to even X1. If you are in the market for a compact SUV, I assume leg rooms and trunk specs are top priority. So to me, it’s a no brainer between the three.

Base GLC offers Leatherette while BMW offers leather & adding leather for GLC will be another $2,000. So the starting price are more or less than same. What cost a lot are the safety packages & you will need to add the premium package before getting the added peace of mind. But both are great cars and it's only a matter of preference.

My wife has owned 2 X3 and now owns a Macan, so she definitely prefers the sportier driving vehicles. However, the interiors of the Mercs we have test driven in the last 10 years or so have been a step above the BMW. She and I make do with whatever infotainment a car has if we like the car on balance, but the BMW systems have proven easy to use while driving after a bit of a learning curve.

It truly felt like when I watched the video clips that Andrea felt and sat more comfortably in Mercedes than BMW.
She felt so comfortable in Mercedes that she took her heels off, meanwhile when you drove the BMW, you seemed at least your body language spoke a "tension" your arms, your legs way too closed meanwhile in the Mercedes your body spoke an extreme level of comfort.

I own a 2020 X3 M40i. I like it but don't like its brakes, too touchy and hard to modulate. It stops great but you gotta learn to handle its quirky feeling.
I also test drove a 2021 MB AMG GLC 43 which is also a great car but not as fast as the M40i which is a lot sportier.
The X3 model line has small interior control buttons which are not too friendly and practical. I found the GLC have a better interior design and controls.
As there were not enough worthy changes and improvements on the 2022 models I will test the upcoming 2023 AMG GLC model when it gets released later this year and if it is better and I do like it then adios X3 and hello GLC. Only time will tell.
The new 2023 GLC line is going to get a nicer and improved dashboard and controls, much nicer than the 2022 models.
Bottom line .... these two models are definitely not perfect cars but they are the best In their class.
FYI..... a big plus for BMW over MB .....BMW provides the following free services for the first 3 years:
"Engine oil and filter service and replacement of air and micro filters."
Mercedes Benz is a cheap and unfriendly company cause they DO NOT match any of the much better and free BMW service plans.
Cheap Mercedes Benz must change their poor policy and start matching BMW's friendlier plan.
But I will not hold my breath as MB is notorious for being difficult and a very cheap company.
You owe it to yourself to check and test drive these two models and then decide which one touches your heart.
FYI....there are many sneaky, tricky and unscrupulous dealers who are selling these models at over MSRP due to the difficult auto market conditions.
When I found out about this despicable greed from several local dealers I told them to go to where the sun never shines.
Just be patient as the market will get better and stabilize soon.
Another personal observation....I like how the MB GLC "Coupe" looks over the same standard non-Coupe SUV model.....but there 2 features that I do not like at all, the Coupe costs $6,600 more and also it is much smaller in the rear and overall interior capacity because of the slanted rear of this model.....so it is no go for me.
BMW is also at fault here for the same reasons, their X4 is identical to the X3 except that it is the coupe model.
The X4 is also a lot more expensive than the X3, $4,600 more, and has smaller interior space. If you disregard the looks then these 2 are the same model car.
The coupes look nicer but are not smart buys at all.

I have never owned a Mercedes before. My family has owned a couple of BMWs (E36, E46 and E90), I have no faith in their reliability and dealer after sales service anymore. In comparison, Audi is the most reliable premium brand we have owned (B5 and B6 A4, 8P A3). So if I have to choose between these 2, I will definitely go with the GLC. The BMW reliability is always a big question mark. I believe the 2021 X3 already has 6 different recalls put out! BMW makes great engines that provide dynamic driving experiences but they need to sort out their reliability and build quality. BMW has always been notoriously bad and they seems to be trending downwards. They will soon be competing with Landrover for least reliable vehicles.

I think Mercedes is getting very greedy and they will lose many new customers as they will refuse the pay this ridiculous increase and look for other SUV models.

Here in Russia we love the aggressive face and forms of cars. Mercedes is too uni-sex cards now and visually BMW is much more effective on the road. However, in part of the cabin, BMW is too obsolete in part of the interior design. IMHO
