Hello Anne Marie, could I use aloe vera juice when making this as a substitute for aloe extract? If so is it the same quantity or would it be higher? Thanks 😊😊
Hi! Aloe vera juice would introduce water to the recipe and need a preservative. For an aloe extract substitution, we suggest another extract like calendula or agave extract.

It is 12:43 am amd I have just finished my first batch of soap! My very first batch! And when I was done I could hear the Queen (Anne Marie) saying "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!" I screwed it up! I made Anne's Pumkin pie and was doing awesome! First layer went well (dark brown) was nice and smooth. I was so worried about pouring the 2nd layer below 125 F that I forgot to color it!!!! I added the fragrance though! I am so mad at myself I cant even think straight! I'm sorry I let you down my Queen! Don't kick me out the hive!

I know I did things wrong with both because they were both my VERY FIRST soaps. Anne Marie warns to have a few batches under your belt before doing those but her soaps look so pretty I didn't wanna start at beginner level! Well if at first you dont succeed...
+Jennifer Halliwell I can assure you I have had my fair share of soapy mishaps! They are definitely part of the process, and a great way to learn. Were you making cold process or melt and pour? Let me know and I'll help you troubleshoot. =)
+Soap Queen TV It was melt and pour. I think it was a combination of things. I think the second layer I poured on top of the first wasn't hot enough, and I think also the first layer was too cool also. So when I unmolded it I basically had 2 soaps on top of each other! LOL
+Jennifer Halliwell I've had that happen before too! There are a couple tricks to help the layers stick though. =) We recommend spritzing with 99% isopropyl alcohol right before the second layer is poured. For the soap now, you can "glue" those layers back together with melt and pour! To do so, melt 1-2 ounces of clear soap on 5 second bursts. Aloe extract and aloe gel are a bit different! Aloe gel is the liquid that comes out of the aloe plant. The aloe in this recipe is extracted and mixed with fractionated coconut oil. Lip safe colors: www.brambleberry.com/Lip-Safe-Micas-Colorants-W37.aspx
Flavoring oils: www.soapqueen.com/bramble-berry-news/sunday-night-spotlight-flavoring-oils/

Hi Anne-Marie, is there any FDA regulation for labeling beard oil beside naming the ingredients?
+Art Cotto Hi Art!
Beard oil is considered a cosmetic, so it will need to adhere to those regulations. You can read more about cosmetics here: www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/default.htm
We have an awesome post that talks about what needs to be included on the label! You can find that here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lip-products/labeling-your-products-lip-balm/
That post talks about lip balm, but applies to beard oil as well. =)
This post has more information about the difference between cosmetics and drugs: www.soapqueen.com/business/understanding-fda-cosmetic-vs-drug-claims/
And this book on Soap and Cosmetic Labeling is really helpful and easy to understand: www.brambleberry.com/Soap-And-Cosmetic-Labeling-Book-1-Book-P3663.aspx
***** thank you so much for your quick response!!! I will check them all... And thanks for so many great helpful videos.. I just ordered last week the beard oil base from you guys... Have a wonderful blessed day!
+Soap Queen TV - I saw quite a few people selling beard oil on Etsy store with no proper labels only showing the name of their brand and the scent they are using, can this people get in trouble for that or they can't due to they are selling this as a handcrafted products?
+Art Cotto We recommend complying with all FDA regulations for cosmetics, including labeling the beard oil. Listing ingredients and contact information allows customers to be fully informed before using your products. They can also contact you if they want to buy your products again! =)
***** thanks so much for all your information... You Rock!!! I will follow your advice definitely... I have quite a few ideas that I'm working on it... And will list my website on the label as well where they could find more information and tips on how to use it... Thanks again!!
Sorry about the spam! But if you use Argan oil, do you need to use an amber colored bottle?
+TheWhitePhoenix2 Right now our argan oil is in a clear plastic bottle, but we are looking into different packaging options for it! In the meantime, we recommend storing the bottle in a cool, dry, dark place like a basement. =)
what oil would you recommend to substitute for the coconut oil? i have a coconut allergy
You can use sweet almond oil
Avocado
+Melissa Stephenson Shine OnTv and Umm Safeera have great suggestions (thanks guys!) - you can increase the sweet almond oil in the recipe or substitute it with avocado oil. Both of those oils are lightweight and moisturizing. =)

your bay rum fragrance on your catalog says that the scent has changed a bit . what is a different in the smell
The bay notes in the fragrance are more subtle, while the spicy rum notes stand out more. =)
Bay Rum Fragrance Oil: www.brambleberry.com/Bay-Rum-Fragrance-Oil-P4489.aspx
Hi. Can we omit fragrance oils from the recipe?
Absolutely! They are optional in this recipe. =)
Deepika A remove the best part? :(
Could you use regular coconut oil to make a beard balm?
+Angelicscars487304 You can! You can mix coconut oil, a wax like beeswax and a soft oil, like sweet almond oil. You can start with a 1:1:1 ratio, then adjust from there based on personal preference. That would make a great balm. This Everything Balm can give you an idea on a beard balm: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/tutorial-for-everything-balm/

Please clear up my questions, I'm confused. The printed recipe shows (six 4 oz. bottles of Black Disk Cap), however, it is not mentioned in the video. Did you decide to leave it out? If so why?
Susann Minall she shows it at 3:03...
I was wondering if you add lotions or fruit juice to your your soap when it's dyed or would it ruin it?
+RainyShadows AJ I'm a bit confused, sorry about that! Are you wanting to add lotion and fruit juice to cold process soap? Let me know. =)
***** oh i just mean when you put color and sent in your soap can you add lotion
+RainyShadows AJ We haven't tried adding lotion to cold process soap, so I'm not entirely sure. You can add it to melt and pour soap though! We did that in the Lotion Melt and Pour Cubes Tutorial: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/melt-and-pour-soap/12-days-christmas-lotion-melt-pour-cubes/
i hard to find jojoba oil..i only have grape seed oil ,coconut oil and alive oil ,can replace the oil
Grape seed oil would be a good substitute! It has a lightweight, moisturizing feeling similar to the jojoba oil. =)

This oil helps moisturize and condition beards and the skin underneath! =)
can we use a preservative in this product ?
+Arafat Elazhar You don't have to use a preservative as it's oil based, not water based. :-)
+Arafat Elazhar Hi there!
Dylan is correct - because this product doesn't contain water, it doesn't need a preservative! Read more about preservatives and when to add them here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/lotion/talk-it-out-tuesday-preservatives/

Isn't Argan oil supposed to be stored in dark colored containers? :o
We have found argan oil to be fine in the clear containers, but I definitely recommend storing them in a dry, cool and dark place =)
4 ml to how much base???
The easiest way to find the amount of any of our FOs to your project is by using our Fragrance Calculator!

+Nojus Lisauskas This would make an awesome Valentine's Day gift! Great idea. =)
Is anyone able to let me know the conversion to ML's?
Oh wait I did it!
14 Ounce Fractionated Coconut oil - 414.029 mL
3.8 Ounce Sweet Almond oil - 141.953 mL
3 Ounce Argon Oil - 88.7206 mL
2.1 Ounce Jojobah oil 62.1044 mL
.5 Ounce Aloe Extract 14.7868 mL
.2 Ounce Vitamin E Oil 5.91471 mL
4 mL Tobacco and Bay Leaf extract. 4.0 mL
While that was fun. I think I'm just going to go and buy the stuff.
IS ALOE EXTRACT KNOWN AS: ALOE VERA GEL BASE?
Aloe extract and aloe gel are a bit different! Aloe gel is the liquid that comes out of the aloe plant. The aloe in this recipe is extracted and mixed with fractionated coconut oil. For this recipe I would recommend using the extract. The aloe vera gel has a water like consistency and can separate from the oils. The extract will mix in nicely. =)

Aloe vera liquid: www.brambleberry.com/Aloe-Vera-Liquid-P3704.aspx
Thank you for your reply,
Do you know if I can buy it in the UK

how to make beard oil: pick oil, mix with smells you like, apply to beard. done
argan and jojoba oil is misunderstood and wrongly seen as a great hair oil none of which penetrate the hair only sitting on the hairs doing nothing healthy for the beard hair but giving a shine.
I used to test beard care products and the best by a mile is a brand called Gentleman Johns homemade buy a guy using only the finest natural ingredients having spent time researching the most beneficial oils for your hair and skin. and he has an amazing beard to suit
don't use fragrance oils! ahh they are so bad for you. get some essential oils instead guys.
Our fragrance oils are skin safe! You can definitely use essential oils if you like though. You can also leave this unscented. That's what's so great about making your own products! =)
Essential oils: www.brambleberry.com/Essential-Oils-C157.aspx
Find out how much to use with our Fragrance Calculator: www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Fragrance-Calculator.aspx
+Soap Queen TV so are they fragrance oils or essential oils? the two are very different... if they are essential oils and all naturally derived that is okay. I only use essential oils in my beard oils.
Fragrance oils are synthetic products made in a lab, while essential oils are derived from natural sources like plants. Both work in this recipe. Which one you use is personal preference! If you prefer natural essential oils, you can use those in your beard oil. =)
Learn more about the difference here: ua-cam.com/video/c5ouJZfluMY/v-deo.html
Cameron Kolb the specific one used in this video is a fragrance oil. Just because it was made in a lab doesn’t mean it is bad for you
