- A discussion about a few topics that have come up recently on UA-cam, namely rod spine/plane of bending, fly casting theory and short cuts in explanations and how to protect your rod tip and ferrules.

And yes I agree with you, it can be, but I always say “we are trying to catch fish on feathers so we can put them back! It’s actually a pretty daft thing to do!” Fly fishing really should be the equaliser; we are all on the same side trying to protect the fish after all. I lived on that boat for 5 years by the way 😂 I only got a bigger boat for guests! There is always a way just to go fishing, as long as we don’t need the frills. 👍
I wrapped electrical tape around the 3rd section from the tip. It's the section that I find gets the most abuse from spey casting.
@@heavenknowsimmiserablenow14 yep 👍 that used to be recommended but I’ve heard it less talked about nowadays. Bruce and Walker certainly recommended it. When I look at our rod breakages attributed to slipped ferrules on the single handed rods, it really can be any section. I’m sure we have all cast a rod tip into the lake at some point 😆

Cheers! I haven’t heard of that although I did read some of the discworld novels 👍 I recall the fish swimming on the edge of the world, where if they stopped swimming they’d fall off. Leading the protagonist to find that to be a metaphor for his own life. 😆
