I used to work at Ritz camera near Portland back in the day. I remember when these lenses were released. I always thought they were cool and wanted one, but I couldn't afford it lol. I think we only sold one or two over a couple years. People were saying how trash they look and only for very niche situations. I'm stoked people are talking about these again. They have an original look and achieve a unique feel that recreating digitally doesn't get you all the way there. I still to this day want one to play around with in a scene.
You have the most wonderful colour grading. The way you do it, all the usual technical quality parameters become completely unimportant and the artistic parameters come to the forefront.
I guess the way I say it makes it sound pompous, but I don’t mean it that way. It just inspires me and reminds me to focus on the right things

You can get similar-ish effects with a center spot filter and a tilt adapter. I've played with this type of stuff on my mft cameras. It's definitely not the same as the effect seems more pronounced with my set-ups and that may not be up to your liking (definitely doesn't work well all of the time). I scored the center spot filter for a couple of euros in combination with a bunch of other stuff at a flea market. The tilt adapter I got on ebay for around 40 dollars. I am using the set-up on a M43 camera, so your mileage may vary depending on what type of mount, sensor, lens, etc. But it is definitely worth playing around with these types of things.

It's such a great optical system, I use their tilt-shift & fisheye lenses regularly on portrait shoots. The image quality isn't stellar, but who needs yet another boring perfect lens.

I once accidentally reversed one element inside the lens while I was cleaning and reassembling it and using the lens gave me similar results like that baby lens.
The lens also reminds me of tilt-shift lenses and adapters. Why don't you try one? They can give 'miniature look' and it would be cool to see miniature-like scenes in your color style.

You should probably look up C mount lenses, there are really cheap prime lenses with insane wide apertures for like 20ish bucks. The more famous are the 25mm f1.4 ; the 35mm f1.7 and the 50mm f1.4!
These are amazing to get these amazingly ‘cinematic’ shots for basically no money
And the mount adapters are also like 3 or 4 bucks
C-mount lenses was made for 16mm movie cameras. A 25mm f1.4 C-mount lens would be equivalent to approximately a 60mm f3.5 lens on Full Frame (depending on lens coverage). This is why they are cheap and not sought after by the vintage lens users, because C-mount lenses does not have a wide focal length nor a large aperture.
@@andrew_nayes Yes, and they will have a very hard Vignette on full frame, I only use them on Micro 4/3 and aps-c size sensors, but I still love the look that it gives me for such a low price

It’s a fantastic lens, but I definitely wouldn’t call it cheap. It’s around twice as expensive as a good amount of canon lenses. Still a fantastic lens though!
