We see a similar toxic relationship in devdas but Parvati leaves him forever. Her love is always there for him and she shows concern for him more than anyone in the world but she stood up for her self esteem. Devdas goes down the path of self destruction and dies. It's tragic but it also teaches that if you treat a woman bad or without respect she'll leave you and you can't blame it on her. Your self destruction and state of life is 100% the consequence of your decision
This is a perfect example of why a movie like kabir singh does deserve some amount of criticism bcoz it fails in it's course of actions leading to no major consequences or accountability
@@thedevilsadvocate858 Chandramukhi doesn't know about history and actions of Devdas. She just sees a grieving lover and he also treats her better than 90% of the men she has seen so I feel what she did was fine. But yeah in general lotta women do try to "fix" men
I agree with you.. especially for the last line.. this message is also given in movie aakashvaani.. must watch movie.. but unfortunately failed at box-office..
The problem with Kabir Singh is not the characters. Ofcourse, characters can be flawed. But how after watching the movie, many ppl see Kabir as the HERO. That's problematic...
Yeah may be the ending should be different like an crooked flawed character is usually awsome if they aren't glorified like they should have seperated at the end
Its also a bad movie because the characters are not convincing. For example.how such a toxic man has friends who are always there for him. Shahid kapoor's character said, I am not a rebel without a cause. I am still finding for the cause
Why Kabir Singh is criticized for slap scene but no one raise a finger when Aditya Roy Kapoor is slapped multiple times by Sanya malhotra in concluding scene. Why this is expression of love in ludo while in case of Kabir Singh, it is not?
Glad that your perspective on bulbul is improved. All girls I know have been deeply impacted by the movie. It's emotionally horrifying. We tend to judge horror movies by scariness or ugliness, but bulbul horrifies you for days with its Curt commentary about a life of woman in our society. More horrifying is the fact that so many women undergo even worse than what bulbul went through in their marriages.
Bulbul was a good movie. What the character Bulbul must have gone through is horrific. The concept of old tale into the movie was brilliant. Only flaw was that the script was predictable.
"Often as a man I overlooked the moments as they are not my experience. But many women connected with it. So for me, as a man, to say the film wasn't scary and I was barely terrified, I actually analysed the film from an ignorant and privileged lens. But the women were deeply impacted by bulbuls trauma. The fact that I simply had a genre based criticism tells you how disconnected I am. What may have sunk someone's heart and made them weep, barely affected me. And this is where the privilege and ignorance lies." I wish all men were more like this. No doubts being a man comes with its own set of challenges but the ability to exist as men do in this world, the privilege they have over women, is something most men don't acknowledge. Even ones that do understand it refuse to admit that it's true. I'm glad you recognised where you fell short and most importantly, acknowledged and corrected it.
Yes, on one hand, you imply that women can't understand the challenges faced by a man, but then again mention privilege. Honestly, don't you think that a bit hypocritical?
As a female, I was deeply disturbed after watching Bulbul and I hated your review because of the same but now I'm very happy and proud of following you because not only did u address the "wrongs" in some of your reviews, but also instead of justifying it you accepted it! You are a real MAN and you should be proud of it😁💕
@Dr strange Bad men and real men..bad women are real women. Just like there are campaigns saying..all women don't have to be lady like..or be a certain way.. The same applies for men..all men can be different..let's not preach men on what or who or how a real man should be..as all men are real men.. Good bad is a vague moral concept..with no fixed principles..
@@parasprodigy go read biology. Every mamal is born with nipples but not everyone lactates. Thus proving the point. Even men with high estrogen and progesterone also women with higher testosterone exist.
Yes.. At least ONE reviewer said that the 'Horror' that lies in Bulbul comes from the all the abuses and mistreatment towards a girl child in the society, not from the shitty jump scares or the screeches of funny looking ghosts sticking to the walls.
Many reviewers said that. Even go to his original review, many comments you will find that says this, which those commenters learnt from other reviewers.
Absolutely, that is what i felt when i went into watching it after watcing Jammy's review. Being a bengali, we can relate much more to the characters and background stories of each them. It was in fact, more of a folklore we have grew up with and not some unrealistic horror piece like 1920, Raaz etc.
About Bulbul. . . While her journey is horrifying no doubt, the fascinating part about the way it was presented was the reflection of society on how they look at women as witches(chudail) if they dare to toe the line, prompting a literal "witch hunt". Makes one think, what's scarry the chudail who avenged her perpetrators that the whole village was petrified of, or what happened to the "normal" girl, bulbul who followed all customs dutifully.
The point is Kabir Singh(a fictional character with flaws) was completely thrown aside - no due credit given to Shahid for his performance whereas Sanju(a real person’s biography) won accolades! Now isn’t that a double standard?!
The only problem with Kabir Singh was that a toxic relationship was glorified, which eventually led to a happy ending. If people in our country are aware enough not to get influenced by this, it's fine. But in a country like India where a woman gets raped in every 22 mins, we can't surely say that a section of people wouldn't get influenced by this. In the movie, the character of Preeti was okay with it but how to make Roadside Romeos of our country, understand, that in real life, not every girl is Preeti. 🤷🏽♀️ Also leave alone relationship, he wasn't a great friend or a son either, which is kinda justified in the movie. Everyone gets back to him, no matter how he treats them 😂.
Your criticism is perfect. As a socially beneficial commentary. Only thing is, critics should not want that the maker change how the film was made. Those particular characters belong to that particular film. Worse characters exist in society. Critics can go n change them or make a film themselves, which again would be like a documentary rather than a film coz it most probably will fall flat commercially.
The ending was happy cos it ended where they chose to end it.. It ended in fun and dance to make it look happy, but there was nothing they did or went through to change the toxicity they showcased in the past as part of their individual characters (in the same relationship) which makes me believe that the life ahead of them wasnt goin to be violent and full of all the shit that was shown (that they did).. It was sickening tbh but hey, it clicked with people cos although love has a literal definition, its more of an experience and experiences differ..
i agree that literature/entertainment doesn't have to show morally good people always,it can show toxic relationships like Happy Together or Given but Kabir Singh- more so people's reaction to Kabir Singh, the director saying pyaar mein maarna chalta hain, and yes India's rape culture today is justifiably going to make women uncomfortable also my problem is with the ending- he keeps being a taoxic ass and everything goes his way anyway 😭
Where the movie makers went wrong in Kabir Singh was them glorifying his character, and that 'hero' shade for that character was completely unnecessary.the Bollywood and tollywood industry makes movies where heros are treated like gods who can never do anything wrong, so it makes the younger audience to believe that it's alright to not respect consent or to be in a toxic relationship.
@Real Suku You see the irony? Expressing an opinion is not toxic. But you simply dismissing that (feminist)opinion certainly is. And if you’re a man, that’s called toxic masculinity.
@@TriedRefusedProductions but still preeti doesn't react when Kabir kissed her or slaps her, every human being reacts on these circumstances even the spiritual people who are tranquil first think and then react
@@gairickdam18 so when she doesn't react one can take it both ways, consent and non- consent. So as the film progresses we understand that there is an intense love between the characters, which more or justifies in every possible way that it was a consent. Even if you feel it doesn't, you are wantedly victimizing Preeti's character because she is a woman, or some other personal bias.
@@gairickdam18 exactly, there was no context to that scene so one might feel awkward, but as the movie progresses it's pretty much straightforward to say that they're crazy for eachother... So I don't think we need to debate such scenes. Yes if the character showed any discomfort in any way, then probably that scene should have been bashed
The problem with Preeti's character is that the plot dictates her autonomy instead of the other way around. She is submissive when Kabir is claiming her in the classroom because it is not yet time for conflict in the plot. She is aggressive in defending her chastity from the man she marries because the plot requires her to be 'pure' for Kabir. Honestly, in the end of the film, when Kabir says she would gladly raise her child, I actually began to respect the film, thinking they were finally letting Kabir face the consequences of his action. But instead they copped out by revealing that the child was Kabir's and Preeti and her laundry were both 'untouched'.
@@gairickdam18 That’s fine for some films. Her character was not the best, but it didn’t need to be. The ending of the movie was abrupt and made no real sense. But you can’t ignore most our the movie just for the end

I never liked Priti's character. The scene where Kabir kisses her cheeks after ragging n she just walks away without any reaction always irritates me. She never reacted to any of his actions. I don't think any love story starts without proper consent or proposal.
That is very normal in our telugu films in almost every movie hero harreses and eve teases herione and beats villians for the same And heroines at the end fell for them in ala vaikuntapuram hero watches heroines legs and heroine never says anything instead of dismissing him and putting him in jail the same person gives lectures to a small villain character for insulting women there are few films like aarya where hero respects heroine and her feelings when she asks him to stay from her he stays away but solves her problem s in that movie the villian's character is similar to kabir singh/arjun reddy
Agree 100% Even if girls enter such toxic relationships, they tend to leave it for good. Preeti is certainly not a representation of 21st century women. Trying to paint it as such is even worse.
And so was Kabir in Kabir Singh, thats why he deserved a happy ending. He suffered bcoz of his toxicity and eventually learned from it in the end and it was just his luck that he was able to make amends for what he did....
@Dr strange whatever it may be, consider Kabir Singh as the villain of the story who gets a chance at redemption and just bcoz he accepts his deeds are the cause of his very own suffering, he perhaps gets a happy ending to show the audience how letting go of such toxicity or criminality can affect a person. Take it as a character development and consider this movie as an example for not retaining a character as that of Kabir(from the start) and ultimately be humble as the final Kabir was, consider this fact and this movie will be a gem....
I’m glad you change your perspective on bulbul. This movie hunted me so deeply I can't even explain to anyone how It makes me felt. I was studying the age of consent act, 1891, Phulmoni Dasi (child bride) case. And with the same set of thoughts and notions, I watched this movie and it just shook me from inside. It was the same feeling when I watched pinjar and I was very young at that time it still gives me goosebumps.
Bul Bul literally made me wonder how shameless our Manly history has been towards Women.. Seriously it hit me hard..😒 The complete ignorance towards Womens Happiness and her Rights in ths world how we take it for granted...
I still don’t like Kabir Singh and probably never will. I do agree that there are girls like Preeti and their life choices shouldn’t be subjected to my privileged judgements but the reason why I hated the movie so much is because of the kind of effect it had on people around me. Boys in my class had turn into wannabe Kabir Singh’s. Many girls glorified and fetishised a relationship like that. People celebrated their relationship. The thing is that the youth of our country has never been taught how to love by our parents or guardians since most of us aren’t even allowed to fall in love to begin with. This movie normalised and sexualised toxic behaviours-many immature, young girls and boys feel into toxic relationships because they thought this was ok that this was an ideal relationship. IT IS NOT. Kabir and Preeti need therapy. This movie isn’t the only movie that has normalised such toxic relationship. Many main stream Bollywood movies have always been notorious for such blasphemy. What shocked me is that I didn’t expect a movie like Kabir Singh to be made at that level especially in this time and age. The story could’ve went in depth to show the toxicity of Kabir’s character instead of playing a badass music( WADA wow wow) to make his actions seem cool and macho. Kabir’s character is freaking load of shit and he should’ve been portrayed as such not as a macho cool guy.
I was thinking on same lines about music creating the heroic effect even for shitty behaviour episodes on screen. But, didn't see anyone getting influenced. May be your friends would realise for better after a couple more years
@@haripriya432 yea because the people I am referring to are high schoolers. We all are aware that in india parents are against love. Since the only exposure to relationship in their life is from movies one can see how bad this movie has effected them. They are immature teenagers after all. None of them have reached Kabir’s toxicity yet but are we going to wait until something extreme happens-is that when people will realise that these movies are extremely bad and disgusting. They ban movies that portray two individuals kissing out of love but they give green light to this.
Good to know that you were able to rethink Bulbul. Horror needn't necessarily mean supernatural, in many cases it is caused by humans too and that is what I loved the most about Bulbul. About Kabir Singh, the simple presence of another angry guy getting screentime was my main peeve with it and so I completely avoided it - completely fine if others are hoping to see such characters on screen and such movies, provided this doesn't lead to glorification and imitation.
@Noob master bhai he was in love with her at a point of time atleast he could have supported her while she was suffering and if it was that normal than why didn't they showed her death she was her first wife afterall
Actually the perspective totally change when a series/movie viewed for the second time. There are some movies/series which actually are excellent if you view it for the second time.
I had watched Arya 2 in class 6 as my first Telugu movie. I loved it-Allu Arjun's dance, Kajal Agarwal's cuteness and the twists and turns in the movies But when I rewatched it after 10 years, I found Allu Arjun's character- Arya as that of a stalker yet he is glorified in the film
@@dranaesthesia0305 true. The horrifying aspect of that film for me as a grown up,was that as a child I felt bad for the guy. I thought the woman was selfish. The movie glorified his character's stalker behavior, and constantly portrayed it as romantic. Truly disturbing.
Sukumar made it to like that because he created something which is opposite to this character before in Arya 1 , so tried of doing in opposite way for Arya 2
I was desperately waiting for Kabir Singh and asked my husband to bring cd from India (he was studying there that time) and when I watched I was like "amla oil would be better"... I was totally disappointed
God! Jammy, you proved that not only are you a true cinèphile( discoverying cinèma, unbiased reviews, etc) but also such a genuine person. Love everything about this channel
Ironically, Raju Hirani said in an interview that he told Sanjay Dutt clearly that if he's going to hide anything and going to whitewash his image, he'll not be making the movie at all! 🤓
That's the speciality of humans, We evolve with time. And for a sane human, the thing of accepting the past mistakes and letting them move on should be normalised! Proud of what you just did Jammy! 🙌🏻
Such a nice take at your own journey! Review on Bulbul is so much appreciated. As for Baala, I think you're still little off. Your argument is that Bhumi should have stated the point that all colors are beautiful in her own complexion. What you're missing is that you're already aware and are able to overlook something as silly as complexion to define a person. But this is not true for all the audience. For so many people, this point needs more of highlighting as the complexion gets darker. For a girl who has been societally conditioned to feel insecure in her really dark complexion, she needs to see Bhumi with a similar complexion not at all worrying about it and taking on the world (like being an advocate or shaming people for their outdated ideas) with such confidence. For Kabir Singh, I still feel the character justification for Preeti is off. When Kabir comes in class and announces that Preeti is for him, her not objecting to it is a terrible preset for a young generation to see. I think it still comes from a position of privilege and ignorance when you try to justify that it's okay and some girls silently like it when a guy forcibly comes and announces their fondness for them. If she is not visibly objecting, it should not be taken as a silent consent. What if someone is genuinely uncomfortable and embarrassed and unable to express their feelings? Like in every workspace, we have etiquettes and professionalism, India especially needs to see dating as a very normal cultural thing where conversational or intimate exchanges need to be respectful and consenting. We have a long way to bridge the gender inequality gap (and I mean from both ends, needs to get better for both men and women) but please let's not try to put a silent consent kind of spin to such atrocious masculine toxic behavior.
Maturity is when we wholeheartedly accept our errors and shortcomings and don't shy away from correcting them. You really did a commendable job here and should be applauded and appreciated for it. Kudos and keep up the good work :)
A fictional character is allowed to slap a girl or even kill her for the purpose that it’s a movie. And they can even get a happy ending. Although I don’t really consider it a happy ending. I think they both would’ve been miserable after marriage. Kabir lost his profession which he worked hard for and he’ll be depressed and self loath when the reality hits him that he is no more a doctor. And in that he’s again going to start drinking and harass preeti but now they will have a child together making things worst.
Didn't you notice that even Preeti slapped Kabir in the film?!, I am no supporter of the film and I thoroughly despise Kabir, but when you only notice Kabir slapping Preeti and not Preeti slapping him then it is problematic, just shows that society is made up of people like you who only consider it physical abuse when a man does it and not when a woman does it. When was the last time you saw a man getting praised for assaulting a girl after her misbehaving with him or in an act of self-defense?!(let's not consider the audience hooting when Kabir slapped Preeti, cause those same people would call the police or beat up the man if a similar situation is created in the real world), and here we have women being praised for beating up men even before having the proof of their wrongdoing. Remember Saravjeet Singh?, An innocent man declared a public enemy even before the legal proceedings could be held and the woman was called "brave", brave for ruining a man's career and relationships and leaving him helpless and depressed.
@@devansh7514 any person being accused of ANY false crime is horrible. Maybe it's people like you who need to read statistics on domestic abuse and sexual violence in this country before disregarding everything with one off anecdotes

Exactly. I don’t understand when people get moralistic over this. Yes he was toxic and they were in a toxic relationship. The movie was great because it was showing his messed up mindset. The ending made no sense but Shahid himself stated that he also disagreed with it but they had to wrap it up somehow. I think people don’t take into consideration that movies will occasionally take liberties and everything is always going to make sense

@braveheart gibson but it can definitely be seen that Hollywood and regional commercial movies are of a higher quality than bollywood ones. Commercial cinema doesn't need to go, it needs to raise it's standards.
I like that as a reviewer, Jammy is analysing his own reviews and even looking at them from someone else's perspective. Every thing is relative, what's good for one can be worse for another. I'm glad he is expanding his approach and ours too with such videos.
I am so happy with my choices of who I want to follow. You take responsibility for your opinions and acknowledge the change of those opinions too. It’s to okay to feel differently about everything over time. So proud of you Jammy.
I am glad about your bulbul realization. I am certain the makers had this particular motive, promoting it as horror story and then making us realize, this is actually what horror is that persists in our society.
Okay i rewatched Rockstar just yesterday , last time i watched was maybe 5 years ago and my god the difference in my opinion is poles apart . Until yesterday i had an image of the movie as an absolute masterpiece ( still think its a good movie) but now i think its not that great as i used to think it was . Another movie i would like to mention is YJHD , I did not like the movie when it came out but it has become of one of my all time favourite now . I think its because we grow up and learn stuff and face reality and we only like the movies which reconnects to what's going on in your life and so on .
Rockstar from an editing perspective is definitely all over the place. The music is still timeless for me! Never really connected with YJHD but only see it for the songs and some iconic scenes
The one thing I'm glad about and it's the fact that a part of the audience has started admiring flawed characters and seeing things from their perspective and calling out heroes and protagonists of their toxic behaviors. People have started to criticise Raj from DDLJ, Bunny from YJHD and many more heroes. While I've no problem with the characters, but these characters are often glorified and put on a pedestal that people worship them and when they're criticized, people lose their minds. I'm a big fan of Malayali actor Dileep. But looking back, it's obvious that some of his films both hits and flops had a lot of women derogatory elements and cheap humor under the guise of innocent humor. It's refreshing to see that audiences are starting to see things in a bit more critical sense and demand for better content.
This is exactly what I felt about Sanju when I first saw it. I tried really hard to like it but just couldn't and literally thought that it might be that I'm not able to understand the goodness of this movie. Thank you so much, Jammy🥺❤️
I watched Bulbul and felt goosebumps in most of the scenes. Being a girl I could relate every feelings that bulbul went through. Then watched your video on Bulbul and was surprised that you didn't actually connect with this. I am glad that you finally realized the film's soul😌😌❤️
I generally watch a movie after seeing your review. But I am so glad I watched Bulbbul before. Was really upset after watching your review. I am glad to see you give it, its due credit. In fact, you could make a separate video for it, as films like bulbbul need a lot more praise and publicity.
Praiseworthy for Anmol to come out and accept he was wrong in a few of his initial analyses. I think this is also a wake-up call to "passive" audiences who rely on reviews to be the be-all and end-all and frame their opinions of films/series completely based on a review. At the end of the day, reviews are just opinions, albeit expert ones which may sometimes change like it’s been highlighted here. It’s important that we form our own judgements and then watch reviews to see if they support or oppose our opinions
Frankly I would say that's a good majority of jammy's audience. We Indians see a guy who speaks well and appears sophisticated and start worshipping him. I myself like jammy and his reviews a lot, but many of his so called "fans" just straight up think his word is law lol.
@@mcchilde2903 See, you cannot necessarily blame the fans. they are like THAT because they know less about film and the technical or aesthetic aspects of it so they rely on his word as gospel. About the sophisticated guy vibe, I totally agree because I had fallen to that but upon later realising my felony I immediately un-subscribed this channel, not out of angst or any bitter feelings but because my opinions were BUILDING based on this one person’s thoughts which I felt was detrimental for me. To be very honest I am not a Guy who extensively consumes content apart from UA-cam. So, I was not watching any of the stuff he reviews and would just watch his review and then form opinions. After unsubscribing I watched some of the shows but now I have again started watching Jamie with a pinch of salt in my hand.
I was really sad when everybody was telling that bulbbul is not a horror movie. Because for me a less than ten year old girl is getting married to a man more than triple of her age was terrifying , a girl getting brutally beaten by her husband was scary , a girl getting raped by her own brother-in -law was horrific and that conversation of borobou with chotobou was... And the saddest part was those were not some random stories but the truth in many cases. The only thing was they could have used more bengali conversation with subtitles..
I would love to see a Kabir Singh type movie in which Kabir Singh himself is not the director. The whole glorification of their toxic relationship was not shown in movies like revolutionary road.
Tamasha was the one for me, I remember watching it in the theatre in 2015 as a 13 year old and getting absolutely bored by the proceedings and I also remember my uncle telling me that I'd change my mind if I watched this film in 5 years. I watched it again during the lockdown last year and to put it simply, my uncle couldn't have been more right.

You are a legend, Jammy. We love you for this. I wish the video would add "Dil Bechara" too. Because you were just being diplomatic because of Sushant's death, when you said the movie was great. Which in reality was a total sloppy and disrespectful attempt of the original book and the adapted movie , also the performances were unconvincing too. I really wish you would acknowledge that.

yesterday I finally watched Padmaavat. i remember when the trailer came out, all the controversies were going on for this film. so i wasn't quite interested in this movie not because of their religious or controversies, but i wasn't into historical drama at that time. but i finally watched and then wondered wtf was the protest and controversies were all about. cause i didn't saw any disregard to any of the religious or made a blunt comment on any historical people or anything !! so i was really shocked that i really enjoyed watching this movie. and also, i think the writers and directors wanted to give the message about Jauhar rituals. that it happened for a reason and it should have ended as soon as ruler thing ended. when democracy started, this thing shouldn't have continued. anyhoo, this is my recent view and story.
The main problem with Kabir singh is that they had deleted some scenes where he was less toxic like shiva explaining his father Kabir's life after break up and Kabir telling shiva , guy(choosen for marriage)was not good for his sister as he ( that guy) objectified air hostess and these scenes were present in Arjun Reddy which made him less toxic and more justifiable but in Kabir singh not only they didn't delete problematic scenes but also they deleted scenes where Kabir was less toxic .
Both Kabir singh and Arjun Reddy were shi*. Those people who were enjoying these kind of toxic movies are the same people who were criticising the series "Four more shots" .
Damn right about Kabir Singh.. We can argue whether things done by a character in a movie are justifiable or not in real life. But we can't tell the creators not to make that movie. We can say Kabir was a problematic character but we can't tell Sandeep Reddy to not make the movie.
This is my favorite video of yours. Beyond the movie reviews itself, you set an example for self-reflection and personal responsibility and growth. We need more of this from the influencer/UA-cam community.

It's commendable how you have addressed that you did review films like bulbul and Kabir Singh the way you did because of your privilege. It's bizarre that we don't even realize we are privileged until something slaps us right in the face. It takes a lot of courage to accept the flaws in your reviews. Well the author was Roald Dahl. He was not just a normal kids author but a genuine horror writer with brilliant twists. Some of his stories are outright sadistic

Kabir Singh/Arjun Reddy is one movie where even after several years if it's topic is brought for discussion, there will always be a debate for and against it
I liked the film it was a good story and had its moments..some scenes should have been avoided..i mean I liked how they showed him raw and had anger management problems..that was much needed such people are there in society and they also can fall in love but that shouldn't be an excuse to hit her and if it happens he should be full of remorse and apologies but I guess he was drugged and alcoholic that's what happens..its life..while certain scenes where hard to digest and shouldn't be there some others were heartfelt.. Anyways I like how the character was complex and deep layered rather than uni dimensional.. And also arjiths music is very good.. Overall remove some useless scenes and the film is a good watch

I would say for me Interstellar and even Inception to some extent has been the films that I find okay on later viewings and found very good at first. I think those films(and Nolan's recent work in general) has had characters that were a little undercooked. The main focus of film becomes it's spectacle. Storytelling and character building takes a back seat. On the contrary I still find Prestige, Birdman and The king of comedy as great as the first time. This video has given me a great suggestion to re-watch great films. Thanks jammy 💙
Tenet was the worst. Story filled with plot holes, pretentious plot and bland characters. Christopher Nolan's movies have hit story dip ever since Jonathan Nolan left.
Good job Not a lot of people accept and correct their mistakes Really glad that you tried to look at the movies from all the perspectives before jumping to the conclusion. I totally agree with your Kabir Singh comments .It's a character and every character won't be what people want it to be .
Rewatch Kanika Dhillon's video. If the girl is okay with it, then why judge her for her decision?? Yes the guy was controlling and the girl was submissive, together they formed something like a perfect mismatch. Yes there are relationships with dysfunctional people like this that exist in real life! But if both partners are happy in the relationship, then what's your problem? Kanika Dillon is an extremely intelligent and I wish all women could think like her...

Thank you Jammy. I recently watched Bulbul with my family, and even though I am a huge horror aficionado, I just couldn't watch the assault scene. The point of the movie isn't the horror of the paranormal, but of the normal. I'm so glad you're using your platform very conciously.
Contrary to Paro, Chadramukhi tries to _fix_ Devdas. Which is also problematic as many woman think they can fix a destructive person

Absolutely second your opinion.Bulbul is a masterpiece .
Bulbul was a good movie. What the character Bulbul must have gone through is horrific. The concept of old tale into the movie was brilliant. Only flaw was that the script was predictable.

The fact that I simply had a genre based criticism tells you how disconnected I am. What may have sunk someone's heart and made them weep, barely affected me. And this is where the privilege and ignorance lies." I wish all men were more like this.

Also leave alone relationship, he wasn't a great friend or a son either, which is kinda justified in the movie.
I don't think it was glorified, but your point that it was dumb to give happy ending is correct,
The ending was happy cos it ended where they chose to end it.. It ended in fun and dance to make it look happy, but there was nothing they did or went through to change the toxicity they showcased in the past as part of their individual characters (in the same relationship) which makes me believe that the life ahead of them wasnt goin to be violent and full of all the shit that was shown (that they did).. It was sickening tbh but hey, it clicked with people cos although love has a literal definition, its more of an experience and experiences differ..
i agree that literature/entertainment doesn't have to show morally good people always,it can show toxic relationships like Happy Together or Given but Kabir Singh- more so people's reaction to Kabir Singh, the director saying pyaar mein maarna chalta hain, and yes India's rape culture today is justifiably going to make women uncomfortable
also my problem is with the ending- he keeps being a taoxic ass and everything goes his way anyway 😭
I agree with your view!

@@gairickdam18 so when she doesn't react one can take it both ways, consent and non- consent. So as the film progresses we understand that there is an intense love between the characters, which more or justifies in every possible way that it was a consent. @@sonu72049 no I am not but an unknown man kissing in sometime and she has consent😂, although it's a movie

This comment deserves more likes.

When I first saw highway I just thought about alia's characters but when rewatched I was also concerned about randeep hooda's character too
I am glad about your bulbul realization.
I have the exact opposite opinion, YJHD seems unrealistic to me now :)
@@TriedRefusedProductions yes Rockstar's music is timeless . I agree . I still listen to the songs over and over again . kun Faaya kun is ♥️
Rockstar is splendid in all aspects I don't think for what reason some want defects in all
Happened the same with me with YJHD
That's why you are so great. Roasting yourself requires courages
Yes agreeee
That isn't horror. More like a crime drama. Just because something unsettles you doesn't mean it is horror.
@@kushalrijal9453 but they had used the folklore of dakini... Can folklore be used in any crime drama? Just asking..
Brave of Anmol to roast himself. But for me, his reviews has always been pretty accurate ✅
Retrospecting ourselves and acknowledging mistakes is good ✅
Thanks for the video
As always,..your videos are adding richness and diversity and gradually shaping a positive, inclusive ,
and critical public opinion on the visual art we are consuming.Congratulations...
I don't have that much understanding of movies but Sanju is clearly not convincible and you said the right word 'sugar-coating'
Oh god jammy u are the best istg
No one else has the guts to roast themselves
You are a legend, Jammy. We love you for this. I wish the video would add "Dil Bechara" too. Because you were just being diplomatic because of Sushant's death, when you said the movie was great. Which in reality was a total sloppy and disrespectful attempt of the original book and the adapted movie , also the performances were unconvincing too. I really wish you would acknowledge that.
Uff thankyou for saying this
I think the performances were good but the movie is not great. It's just a decent one.
Maybe he doesn't want unnecessary hate thats why he didn't added that movie in this list
100 percent.
Sadly indian audience gave it positive reviews just because of SSR
Revolutionary Road is one of the most underrated Leonardo's movie, Whole Movie was just getting darker and darker with every scene, it was Beautiful 💔
It's always a wonderful step forward for humanity when someone is bold enough to accept their mistakes and be humble. It's one more step towards making it a normal thing. Good one, Jammy!
Kanika Dhillon point on Kabir Singh was apt.
yesterday I finally watched Padmaavat. i remember when the trailer came out, all the controversies were going on for this film. so i wasn't quite interested in this movie not because of their religious or controversies, but i wasn't into historical drama at that time.
but i finally watched and then wondered wtf was the protest and controversies were all about. cause i didn't saw any disregard to any of the religious or made a blunt comment on any historical people or anything !! so i was really shocked that i really enjoyed watching this movie.
and also, i think the writers and directors wanted to give the message about Jauhar rituals. that it happened for a reason and it should have ended as soon as ruler thing ended. when democracy started, this thing shouldn't have continued.
anyhoo, this is my recent view and story.
I have seen Arjun Reddy too and believe he is still toxic
@@swatisaini6447 yes and that's fine because I like to watch complex characters on screen. I am tired of the cliche heroes and villains 😭😭
I didn't notice this missing scene in Kabir Reddy..
Both Kabir singh and Arjun Reddy were shi*. Those people who were enjoying these kind of toxic movies are the same people who were criticising the series "Four more shots" .
@@amishere.05 absolutely I completely agree with you , these films were justifying toxic relationship and toxic masculinity

You are a brilliant reviewer. This video shows how much you have grown as a reviewer. You are proving the quote that the only person you have to compete against and keep keep defeating is yourself. You have come a long way and are constantly trying to improve yourself. The different facets of a movie you consider when you review it shows how much you understand cinema. Keep it up Jammy. Brilliantly said! For me it was "Charlie and the chocolate factory" , it was my favourite but then I realised he hangs cows to the ceiling and whips them to make "Whipped cream" , he tortures and trains squirrels to open nuts! I never could unsee it!
Well the author was Roald Dahl. He was not just a normal kids author but a genuine horror writer with brilliant twists. Some of his stories are outright sadistic
the original "willy wonka amd the choclate factory " didn't had that whipping cream scene nor the squirrel one!!
so the were added to the film ,they were not in the original story !!

My thoughts changed everytime when ever i rewatched something and that means you are constantly growing.

My first reaction after watching Sanju was "It's glorifying the Munna"

I would say for me Interstellar and even Inception to some extent has been the films that I find okay on later viewings and found very good at first. I think those films(and Nolan's recent work in general) has had characters that were a little undercooked. The main focus of film becomes it's spectacle. Storytelling and character building takes a back seat.
On the contrary I still find Prestige, Birdman and The king of comedy as great as the first time. This video has given me a great suggestion to re-watch great films.
Thanks jammy 💙
