There is a spacious park ... close to where I live, that has a very old grove of black walnut trees ... with leaves on it that do not match the pinnate leaflets on the rest of the tree. This threw me for a curve for a while .. but it was the case of English Walnut branches grafted into the Black Walnut tree.
Nice presentation but I was a bit surprised when you said that wood from a BW tree that grows in a back yard would not be as good or as valuable as those grown in farms…. Not sure why!
I wish someone would show younger trees, so you can identify what is taking root in your yard. I can't tell if I have an elm or or black walnut or something similar?, because it is a young tree, & no one gives enough info to really help me distinguish. No fruit yet, & I can't let it grow any longer, because it is too close to the house. I'm just considering keeping the wood, so want to know what wood I have.
I'm trying to identify what type of nut tree I have in my front yard. I thought it was a black walnut, but the leaves do not look like the leaves here. They are more round & full. The nuts are also much bigger, covered by a green shell that eventually comes off with the nut inside, which is very hard to crack open. Would you have any idea what this tree is.

Thank you. I am glad you found the video useful
