It's also worth noting that, aside from Abrahamic religion and its bedfellows, gods are usually not omnipotent. In the context of Greek gods specifically, the first thing that comes to mind is that one time Ares got trapped in a jar and it took a year for the other Olympians to find him. During which time _the god of war_ proved too weak to escape a jar. (The Sisyphus incident is better-known, but less funny.)
Also it just assumes that ALL gods are the "Capital G" God in the typical American Zeitgeist etc. And yet even he seems incapable of solving basic problems in the universe he designed!
I already knew Hephaestus was limp so was cracking up once we got to that part of the video but I didn't know that EVEN THE ANCIENTS GAVE HIM A WHEELCHAIR!!! I just about cried with laughter at that point XD
The “Hephaestus in a wheelchair omg the woke!!” Nonsense reminds me strongly of pushback against Loki being depicted as gay or feminine. Bad news about your favorite pregnant female mythological horse I guess.
Hephestus being fat and disabled as a 'bad thing' is so so insane to me, like in the original mythology he was so 'ugly' his mother Hera THREW HIM OFF OLYMPUS AS A RESULT. HE HAS A LIMP. BECUASE OF THIS. THIS IS INSANE.
Also why do they question Gods choices? Isn't the whole point that God's chose what to do because they are so powerful? So what if the God's use wheelchairs or other mobility aids seen used by us people. What then? What is the God no linger respectable to you? I presume yes considering those people don't ever respect disabled folk. 😂
Hell if anything the "complaint" should be Hades II made Heph-y is now a hot sexy bear daddy instead of a deformed and hideous person for whom it would be painful to even briefly gaze upon. But almost everyone in Hades is sexy so it's really just an artistic choice. (Sorry for the reply to a months old comment)

I used to argue with the Atheists because of Religious conservatism. Now I know that no matter which way the pendulum swings. The victors will lean towards the extreme. Power corrupts. And the secularists have become the far left. 2 hours of footage, not one reference to how Korea-based devs were used as a scapegoat because American woke journalists forced their hand to make last-minute changes due to fake outrage. I don't care how minor the changes are. The physical discs were delivered as advertised. And then the AMERICAN journalists got the earlier copies for review and forced Shift Up to make POST-LAUNCH changes because of Graffiti that offended them. Then the next day, they went ahead and asked for outfits to be covered, therefore breaching the consumer's trust by changing some of the things promised that the discs already delivered ( online patch ). Who took the blame? Korean devs. Blamed by consumers for anti-consumer behavior. Blame by liberals and journalists for being insensitive. Know that you are siding with a party that treats people as STRAWS. And torments them for appearance and virtue signaling. Narcissism at its finest.
it's funny they're projecting a very Christian idea of what a god is onto Greek gods, like as far as I know in Greek mythology the Greek gods existed as physical beings on earth, they could be injured and killed. But they just hear the word god and think omnipresent, omnipotent, God.
@@aidanpeterbioThe greek gods can't be killed actually, but they can indeed be injured or like, chopped up into pieces and scattered around so they can't do anything. The argument that "gods can do anything" is very much projecting Christian ideas of godhood into greek mythology

Putting The End in a bikini would have been a perfectly fine way of committing to the bit (and we both know that Hideo Kojima can and would commit to the bit on that front if someone had suggested it to him, this is the same man who made Norman Reedus getting naked to take showers an important gameplay mechanic), but it does annoy me to see another youtuber forgetting that the reason why Quiet needs to breathe through her skin when The End didn't was because at the beginning of the game she inhales superheated gas when Ishmael firebombs her and she doesn't have functional lungs after that point. Arguably the other naked snipers in the game are way more egregious because they can breathe normally but wear even less clothes than Quiet does, seemingly just because "half-naked sniper ladies" was bouncing around Kojima's brain like a windows screensaver.
@@andrewcapra7153 Any reasoning given for why a character dresses 9/10 naked is post-hoc. The reasoning is hand-wave, and genuinely unimportant to the game for any purpose other than to try and justify the decision to have her look like a stripper that got assaulted on the side of the road. Kojima was horny and ashamed. A bad combo. At least Yoko Taro was horny and decidedly unashamed.
Injured gods aren't even limited to Greek Mythology. In Norse, Odin loses an eye for knowledge, Týr gets a hand eaten by Fenrir, and Thor has an eye scar from a fight with a Jötunn. The idea that gods can't be injured is likely a modern invention from all the media that have regeneration abilities
The Marvel Odin sill has only one eye. I was thinking it might be a Christian upbringing but even the risen Christ canonically still has the nail holes and the spear puncture.
Aztec mythology too! Tezcatlipoca loses a foot in one version of the creation myth - he uses it as bait for a giant crocodile monster, which he and his three brothers (Quetzalcoatl, Huitzilopochtli, and Xipe Totec) then kill, and make the world out of its body. I think it's kind of interesting that "losing a limb by purposefully placing it in a monster's mouth" is part of the story of both Tezcatlipoca and Tyr, gods from two very different parts of the world.
Is it from media of people with regenerative abilities or is it more a consequence of living in a primarily christian society where God is viewed differently to how other religions have conceptualized gods?
When they say "God" they just mean the Christian God who is like all the Omni's. It's their main conception of a god which is why they say he cant be crippled or he can just fix it. The polytheistic Greek mythology has weaker (but imo more interesting) gods. It just shows ignorance on their part just to get "outrage" over a dude in a wheelchair lol.
It is pretty well known, and I think there's a good chance that these people complaining know about it as well. But even if there is a genuine, good faith reason to portray Hephaestus in that way, they're coming in with the mindset that any decision to portray characters in a diverse way comes with "bad" or "woke" intentions. They're looking for every possible reason to confirm their worldview that the woke mind virus is ruining gaming, and will always assume bad intentions for inclusion before considering the logical reasons.
"I played Hades for 12 hours. I almost beat it." Reminds me of this one time I played for 7 hours straight and almost beat chess. Pretty sure I was at the last level anyway.

There was a legendarily awful tweet from some guy saying his ancestors fought on the beach of Normandy, yet I fight on the beach of the culture war, or something to that level. It was bad.
That one guy claiming to have "almost" beaten Hades in roughly 12 hours might be the most blatant confession of not having actually played much of the game I've ever heard
Not just Hades but roguelikes in general. It's been a genre standard for years now that your first clear in a good roguelike is when the game "really" begins, with most of the complexity only coming into play on higher difficulties. This guy has clearly never played a game in the genre if he thinks "nearly having beat the game" means he's close to actually *finishing* the game lmao
I mean for my first full completion so first 10 kills of the final boss it took me about 12 hours. Granted I have 150 hours now because that ending is not all there is to the game but Hades is a relatively easy roguelike to finish. It's nowhere near as punishing and the final ending comes just by beating the game 10 times.
I was thinking of that, and having worked adjacent to the business pipeline of how a video game eventually gets put on sale (for video game consoles anyway), what actually probably happened was that builds of the game near when it is almost finished go out to a couple other bodies that evaluate the product, one for technical competency (doesn't crash too much, harm hardware, etc) and two for content. When being screened for content it's being looked at by many eyes because they need to give it an age rating, which differs widely around the world, and also there's a secondary element of retailers having their say, because for instance Walmart will not carry certain age rated things, so that gives Walmart a sort of veto power over art, in a way. So these costumes, I'm willing to bet, as they were, were getting just a little too close or over the line in certain countries as far as age rating was going to applied against it (or perhaps even banned from being sold in a particular country!) and so the Stellar Blade devs willingly adjusted the costumes to have more coverage until they got to the point that they were satisfying all the possible ratings boards. So it was never some kind of 'woke' or 'prude' or whatever censor these guys like Kern think is causing the art to change, it's just good old capitalism - the developer and publisher want to sell the most games (typically).
@@mnmnrt yet the same sort of people who fall for the stellar blade controversy praise Black Myth Wukong who literally had censorship built into the early access agreement for creators lol.
The argument about Greek gods is especially revealing to me because like gods and symbolism are deeply intertwined throughout all of human history. Asking why Hephaestus doesn’t just cure his disability is like asking why Jesus doesn’t just seal his stigmata; it’s completely ignorant of the role gods often have in our culture. Not to mention the fact that it’s just boring and lame? The gods not being invincible and perfect is what makes them interesting characters. This isn’t about accuracy, it’s about the knee jerk (no pun intended) reaction to seeing any characters in wheelchairs In fantastical settings.
Yes, that's an excellent example of why religion and especially mythology is retarded. Why did god have to sacrifice his son? If wanted to forgive sin, he can just forgive it. He's god. He can do whatever he wants. Any argument that amounts to "BUT MUH SIMBUHLISMS" is just an admission that you don't actually think divine beings exist.
Another thing that is very telling is that these same people think that 'woke' people are easily offended and want to live in a perfect, conflict free world where nobody' s feelings are hurt. but when they come with something imperfect, e.g. a disabled god in this case, they immediately want a magical fix to it - i thought it was woke to want everything to be flawless and perfect?
With the hades discourse it really seems like people just don’t understand the difference in power and domain between the Greek Gods and the Abrahamic God
Honestly as someone who's mostly grown up in a Christian Faith, you kinda do forget that aspect of mythology where Gods ARE quite varied and are not just the absolute omnipotent, omniscient beings that the Abrahamic God is. So it's quite funny when there are complaints about why the Greek Gods are such, cuz it shows that they don't know such mythology all that much, and can't be the authority to claim this and that.
it's also a difference of classification. most greek god is more on par to angels, while Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades together would be closer to God the big man, yet they're all "gods"
1:08:25 they don't want their desires to be portrayed as merely one option among many, they want to their desires to be the assumed default. is the truest sentiment, such a great way to put into words the socially conditioned entitlement among gamers who feel that everything in the industry needs to be designed to cater to them.

The funniest thing is that if anyone at "game publishers like Sony" ever noticed, the only conclusion they could make is that it's better to avoid pandering to antiwokes, even by accident. What's the point if they can turn on you over ticket 3214 "make skirt more rigid, to avoid clipping with certain animations." and 3125 "make corset less transparent to hide texture issue." or something like that? Because, seriously, the changes were so minor it's not even some ratings board horse-trading, it's 100% either a cover-up of some technical issue like that, or the art team genuinely thought changes better matched their vision.

As a, and I am ashamed to admit it, Frenchwoman myself, I would like to add a couple of things that are difficult to get with a translation. Firstly, the language used expressed subjectivity from the first line, and a familiar one at that. It is generally accepted that the use of the first person singular pronoun "Je " and it's grammatical influences is 'unprofessional'. The words used, such as "dégueulasse" (only one I can remember of the top of my head because UA-cam would force me to close this comment to look back at the text) are also considered rather 'base', or 'crude', in a journalistic setting. So just with the language, it is evident that we have here the very early opinions of the writer, as they came to them. And then we have the part about the sexualisation. The use of "fade" (in English, bland) is also very subjective. The sentence is not saying: "This is bad" en se, it's more like "We've seen this a million times before and it's frankly just boring now" Idk if that was already clear, but given Shaun's reply, I just wanted to make sure it was understood not as a serious critique (which it isn't meant to be) but a series of first impressions upon the writer. If this is useless and the translation did communicate that clearly, please ignore me and have a wonderful day. Edit: Deleted repeated word and correctly spelled Shaun's name
PS: At least with the people I know and talk French with, the sentence "Une poupée sexualisée par quelqu'un qui n'a jamais vu une femme" (a sexualised doll by someone who's never seen a woman) is perfectly understood as a joke and a hyperbole. I believe it isn't uncommon in English either, though I may be wrong, to jest about unrealistic feminine portrayals by saying that the artist has never seen a woman, which, and I can't believe people are this dumb (well I can, but keep getting shocked), IS IMPOSSIBLE.
I, personally, don't understand the dislike of the french language and french people that's on the internet so you don't and shouldn't have to apologize.
Understanding of hyperbole is dead in a world where algorithms try to push us into amplified echo chambers. Thanks for going through the effort of trying to add extra nuance French is a third language to me and I'm trying to learn japanese for fun. and it's rapidly and painfully getting clearer to me that translation is a difficult task where preserving nuance is a practical impossibility. Just look at the 2 paragraphs of additional context you can provide. I should've realized this sooner during the years where I was learning french in a school setting, but apparently it took an even more 'alien' language to really land that awareness. Or longer lived adulthood perhaps as well.

1:16:30 this tweet about how Supergiant Games are 'taking away the positions of more talented people' was the one that actually got me raging back then. Supergiant are the epitome of a indie studio that made it big by their own accomplishment. They took absolutely nobody's position away, but made their entirely own! And the Hades games are completely fitting titles for them. Who would be 'more talented'? They have released banger after banger. Not a single bad game. They keep outshining the competition on writing, character design, and game design. Keep delivering top-tier sound tracks and generally complete experiences. Accusing this incredible team of 'taking away the positions of more talented people' is awful and stupid on every level.
@@ethancox1826 Yes, Pyre was awesome! And I'm quite sure that was their worst selling title. It had more of a niche appeal with its interesting genre combination. Super innovative, a great story telling experience, and super fun as a single-screen offline multiplayer title, but with less mainstream interest. One would think that gamer gaters hating on the "mainstream industry" and generally everything "AAA" would love the fact that a little studio like this can exist and prove that it's possible to produce real art in the video game medium. But as Shaun pointed out, it's not enough for them to get games that pander to them. They also want to eliminate everything that doesn't. So of course an indy studio that cares about any degree of human decency is still a target for them. The Hepaestus "issue" is another great example of their hypocrisy, since these types love to criticise any writing or design that diverts from the source material. Yet here they get upset at things that are true to the sources!
It didn't get mentioned, but what pisses me off so much about the narrative Grummz and people like him use is framing this all as defending or encouraging "artistic integrity" or "artistic freedom". It implies that if totally free and unrestrained, able to do whatever they wanted, what artists would naturally WANT is to only create the stuff he likes. So if they create stuff he doesn't like, someone must've had their thumb on the scale. Someone forced them to. I don't think they really believe this, but when they say it that way it makes it easier to support. Of course there's no actual support for artistic integrity. If an artist *wants* to write a character who's trans, or design a god in a wheelchair, they don't support that vision. Aphrodite must be redesigned, changed from the actual artist's wishes, but somehow that's not censorship, that's not defying artistic freedom. It's just "artistic freedom (to make exactly what I want them to)"
Its appropriation of language used in activism for real causes by people who actually have to fight real oppression. Grifters like this know it sounds empowering and gives their audience a direction to channel rage and desire for change. Letting them role play doing something important while remaining completely safe because their crusade is against strawmen and conspiracy. They already have their freedom, they've just bought into the idea that if others have freedom too, it somehow means they have less. Press 1 for English. It's infuriating.
Aphrodite's design isn't even that of a trans person these dudes are just allergic to women with cheekbones and big noses!!! ...not saying that there aren't trans people as pretty as that Aphrodite out there, just reinforcing that he's wrong about everything
Besides lacking any knowledge about the topics, they rage about or pretend to. I'm glad they don't run the gambit on "artistic freedom" because imagine how incredibly bland media will be if every character is just a sex toy regardless of the context of whether that makes sense or adds to the character. It also doesn't make sense for most smiths to be ultra lean. Having a very low body fat percentage isn't something you have incidentally. Unless you have unreasonably blessed genetics, to keep yourself at six pack levels of lean, your caloric intake has to be unreasonably low. Smiths are usually regular people who eat regularly, and smithing tends to make you stupidly strong, because that's kinda what the job requires. So you get chonky dudes who could fold you like a lawn chair because they don't purposefully put themselves in caloric deficits but still do extremely physical work.
It's like when some of them freaked out about Thor having a big gut as if a Norse warrior god would have the weak form of a dehydrated body builder. They don't know anything. They just make up shit to be mad about.

I understand gym bros put in a lot of effort to look good, so it's not a big deal to cut and actually see the results they put so much work into. But i'm a blue collar worker that's strong but not ripped, cuz eating a calorie defecit suuuuucks, and a little fat keeps me warm.
The guy saying he put a dozen hours in and never saw any queerness in Hades 1, even though he "nearly beat it." I don't think he ever cleared a run. That's the only explanation.
I think the only way you could manage that would be button-mashing through the dialogue or skipping character interactions entirely. If not that, you’re absolutely correct, and he thinks “beating the game” means getting to the surface, when getting to the surface is a requirement to start the main storyline… either he’s a bad gamer or can’t read
I have like 150 hours on it, dozens of run and didn’t see it either. I think what happens is that you just assume everyone is straight if you’re normal, and it depends on what builds you like to play with what god buffs and other npcs you end up interacting with, though that guy yeah definitely sounds like he didn’t even clear a single run.
"There's a disturbing tendency here, which is the conflation of *adult* facial features with common *masculine* facial features" I've never thought about it this way before! You're so right!
This has been something many that are "woke" or just any sane person has pointed out about these alt-right anti-woke people: they think an adult female, to be beautiful, is supposed to not have any adult features👀..😬yeah predatory... And to make matters worse they're now mostly looking at Asian features (mostly ONLY East Asian) as the pinnacle of true feminine beauty.....Oh boy, where have we heard of that before? (Orientalism and many other problematic Western stuff) That's why there's been a HUGE migration of so-called "passport bros" to Asia, where they just want to be with Asian women and they're hyping up Asia, particularly Japan for being a "true conservative" society or something. Yeah they suck
I'd say it's more facial feature associated with maturity than adult facial features but the point still stands, even if the reason those features are seen as adult and associated with maturity is because white women commonly have them....

Literally can't even talk about Star Wars without people screaming how the woke agenda ruined the sequel trilogy. Any actual narrative critique of the series or exploration of its themes is completely lost in a sea of misogyny, racism, queerphobia etc. Which is especially ironic considering these are the same people who want everything to be "apolitical" yet are completely blinded by their own biases. I want to recommend darkmatter2525's video titled "Why I stopped being anti-woke" - a big focus of that video is an analysis of how the current "anti-woke" media has exactly the qualities (overreaction/outrage, made-up controversies, hypocrisy, witch hunts, etc) that people claim to dislike when the left does it. What really gets to me is that basically any/all "legitimate criticisms" of the original victims of GG like Anita (putting aside these criticisms were usually just a pretense for harassment as GG was never a 2-sided battle because the woke side generally didn't consent to fight) like "they are overreacting" and "they haven't played the game" are now exclusively true of the anti-woke commentators.
I AM GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO SAW THIS VIDEO. Oh man I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's becoming aware of this "Anti-Woke movement". Two years ago people would call crazy or even send death threats whenever I said that the whole thing was just stupid and that they were behaving so much worse than the people they want to "defeat".
I was talking about that with a friend recently and we got onto the point of Rome in antiquity, and how these bozos truly know nothing about how Roman society actually functioned, or that they think that Rome "fell" because of immigrants. Everything they 'believe' in always points back to justifying their political views in the modern day, no matter how ridiculous or twisted their logic is.
That’s because the right is mostly Christian Nationalist and only claims other “western” mythologies in a stolen valor sort of way. “Western culture” doesn’t exist as a monolith, they just want to make it seem like a thing. Ironically they degrade and dilute all of it by trying to homogenize it, just like their conceptions of whiteness.
To be fair a lot of the Greek and Roman mythology used for building western culture was misrepresented when it became popular in the west originally. For example they had no way to know that many marble statues were originally coloured by paints and so they assumed they were all white like them even though the Roman empire was fairly diverse due to being so large.
16:52 I appreciate you keeping the original article on screen even though your audience is mostly English speaking. Too many times I've seen people argue over a translation and completely omit what was actually originally said by the author.
"Wheel chariot". The wheelchair that Hades 2 introduces is modern approximation of the "wheel chariot". The wheelchair wasn't invented as we conceive of them yet. Not that that's really a problem, he's the God of creation/inventions/smiting, not a rando, but it does highlight that you're ignorant in a similar way: You saw some blurb about it online, or took Shaun's second sentence, after he correctly called it a "wheeled chariot", a "wheeled chair", which it was not. OFC, you can claim "muh pedantry!", but it's really not. The wheelchair as you think of it was invented more than 1.5 millennia after. The wheelchairs of that time were 4-legged chairs with tiny wheels on each leg. The chariot requires someone to be dragging the person along. Literally just a chariot you can sit in, intended for either beast or human to drag, or in a more godly way: mechanical wings to move the chariot.
@@kloa4219 "uhm, akcthually 🤓, since the label didn't specify, it was akcrhually a space craft!" Never mind that chariots for handicapped people was a thing, while wheelchairs were a much later invention. But hey, muh facts not carerinos about feelerinos.
Innuendo Studios made a comment in his GamerGate series regarding Anita Sarkeesian that has always resonated with me: Even if she's wrong, that's not the reason she's getting death threats. Watching the guy say the designers of Hades are Low IQ because he doesn't like Hephaestus' design reminds me of this. If it were simply just an objectively awful character design, he would laugh it off and move on with his life. The fact that he felt the need to resort to petty personal attacks against people he doesn't know tells me that this was a knee-jerk emotional reaction to seeing someone in a wheelchair.
I don't know if aesir gods are a good example, they're more like a family that exploits magic. Odin traded his eye for knowledge, it's likely that he would lose that knowledge were he ever to gain what he lost for it back completely. They're crystallized stories, and so their scars are a part of their symbolism.
So, to make a guess at the one guy who "didn't see the alphabet stuff" in Hades. Yes, you can skip over the "alphabet stuff" in the game if you do one thing: never give ANYONE ambrosia or nectar. No one. No gods. No friends. Not even Meg. Just hoard the stuff like a hydra and assume it's "currency" that you'll need for later and you can miss like 90% of the story. I think that's what happened there.
@SephonDK I wanted to give some wiggle room and take his word that he, "had a dozen hours" in-game and then give an explanation. I see your point, though, so fair play.
Which would also be a totally brainless thing to do, as the game tells you multiple times that Nectar and Ambrosia are used mainly to "give to your friends", with gaining alternate uses later on in the game that are not game-changing in any way lol
It seems like they idolize disenfranchised, submissive, immature, and infantilized women. So, underage girls they can feel superior to by controlling. Weird how these people are politically aligned with the "anti-groomer" crowd, but I guess both groups want to take away agency from women, so it still checks out.
I wonder if that's why they say she's ugly. also funny they say she's "trans coded" since Aphrodite had another form called "Hermaphrodite", which is literally just Aphrodite with a penis.

Literally the funniest part of the "Hades 2 outrage" is that the version of Aphrodite that everyone was up in arms about (and the version shown in this video) was the one from the FIRST HADES, which no one apparently had an issue with for four whole-ass years. The Hades 2 artwork for Aphrodite is noticeably more "conventionally feminine," so the right-wing outrage farmers ignore it despite claiming that's the version they're mad about. The dishonesty is somehow even more naked than Aphrodite herself!
Thing is, I saw zero outrage over Aphrodite when Hades 1 came out. Like, I kept looking for anyone upset that she was naked, and found zero. And believe me, I LOOKED. And we all know what Shaun has said about controversy you have to look for.

The best thing about Shauns vids is that 99% of the time you arent being angry and viscious with your words, but your drole delivery screams "are you guys really this PATHETIC?"
Oh we all know they are incredibly pathetic. It's a matter of how long they can be this much of a pathetic loser before breaking the charade and/or considered completely insane
Even funnier how he gives them a sort of faux benefit of the doubt at every step of the way, only to further hammer in how pathetic it all truly is by elaborating more and more.
Man, that part about Hephaestus was literally boiling my blood. Like, him having a limp is probably his most well-known attribute after him being the god of smithing. If you know even remotely who or what Hephaestus is, then you would know about his limp. It's kinda like Zeus having a beard. Everyone knows that. Also, I didn't know there were deciptions of him in a wheelchair so that was a huge icing on the cake (though even if they weren't, it makes so much sense for his character).
Corollary to that, and to make the Hestia comparison even more ridiculous in turn, I’m pretty sure Hephaestus in that anime is depicted as an able-bodied, conventionally attractive woman lol
Yeah, it goes probably like this: 50% have no clue who Hephaestus is, 30% know he is a god-smith and 5% know he is disabled (actual mumbers mighy be slightly different).
To be completely honest, I didn't even knew who Hephaestus was before this video. I then proceeded to do a single google search and read three lines of the Wikipedia article about him, where it's directly stated that he was lame/had a limp. I then proceeded to suffer with you hearing these idiots Shaun showcased talk about him.
Y'know, thinking about it now, Mark Kern making those comments about anime Hestia and how he's too old to be talking about that? It kinda fits with what we know about some of the OG Blizzard staff and their frat boy work culture. Maybe he was one of those that just never grew up.

“Why would a god be fat?” There actually are gods in Greek mythology that are depicted/described as being overweight like Silenus and Priapus. Outside of Greece though you have gods like Hapi from Egyptian mythology or the Dagda from Celtic mythology who are also overweight. There’s even a Meso-American deity depicted as having a giant bloated stomach who is simply known as “the fat god”. As for why Hephaestus doesn’t just cure his leg? Why doesn’t Odin grow back his eye? Why doesn’t Ouranus grow back his balls? Why doesn’t Hodr cure his blindness? Why doesn’t Tyr grow back his hand? Why doesn’t Nanahuatzin cure his acne? There are plenty of gods with unique physical characteristics and stripping them of those makes them way less interesting imo. Honestly the fact that Hephaestus is disabled just makes the time when he captured the god of war and humiliated him in front of the other olympians even more badass.
AFAIK we are living in the first society (post-industrial revolution, I mean) to idolize people for being skinny. Older civilizations idolized people with fat because they were so rich and/or powerful they could afford to eat what they wanted and not burn it off in manual labor. It is s very nice wheel chair
As a fan of mythology, that really was one of the funniest parts of the video.

The “Hephaestus in a wheelchair omg the woke!!” Nonsense reminds me strongly of pushback against Loki being depicted as gay or feminine. Bad news about your favorite pregnant female mythological horse I guess.
In the anime he mentions (DanMachi) Loki is a woman and also a pervert (trying to woo female adventurers).

"Mark Kern is 56 years old"
I feel like I've just been slapped. This was readily-available information and I didn't even think to check.
I can't believe a man who is almost old enough to be a grandpa is moaning he can't masturbate to women who aren't pale or above the age of consent.
Fuck me - the tweets, the account, the anime profile picture, and he's basically a grandad. Why.
Hes a divorced 56 year old man who has to pay child support and hes complaining about pixelated boobs online. This is just pathetic
@@Kossy-x4xAre you being disingenuous or just thick? For one, he's a generation younger, and not tweeting things like "Anime Hestia is best girl". For Shaun, he's not making a video about drama, it's about a manufactured outrage made by people that want video games to be a certain way, which ties into larger societal issues. It's similar to his response videos so it actually is quite different from an alleged game dev complaining about an inch of fabric on Twitter.

This hit me like a tonne of bricks. Like, imagine waking up in the morning, doing your routine and then sitting down to do that. Imagine taking a break from that and making yourself a nice lunch, then getting back to posting performative outrage online. Imagine after a nice hard day of fighting on the front lines of the Culture WarTM you then have some nice calming tea before showering and going to bed. And then you wake up in the morning to do it all again. Imagine transvestigating Aphrodite from Hades and shit like that being what your INCOME is tied to. Like, that's your job. He means business lmfao
Someone make a mod for that when MGS delta releases
Tekken 8?
@@andrewcapra7153
Any reasoning given for why a character dresses 9/10 naked is post-hoc.
Plus, in Odin's case specifically, it's an injury voluntarily taken in exchange for supernatural power.
@@francesconicoletti2547 Exactly, it's just THAT important an aspect of the character: if he had both eyes, he simply wouldn't BE Odin!
Is it from media of people with regenerative abilities or is it more a consequence of living in a primarily christian society where God is viewed differently to how other religions have conceptualized gods?
The Hephaestus one really surprised me. Physical disability is a major theme in his lore, I really thought this was common knowledge.
If you're expecting American gaming streamers to know an iota about Greek mythology I have some bad news ...
Same! I was confused about how anyone could be outraged…
It’s like Bioshock Infinite, where gamers thought “Wounded Knee” was a Skyrim reference.

Not me finishing the game in 100 hours and encountered ALL the WOKE content like why tf people keep listening to fake outrage???
"Almost beaten" he's probably talking about beating the final boss for the first time
I mean for my first full completion so first 10 kills of the final boss it took me about 12 hours. Granted I have 150 hours now because that ending is not all there is to the game but Hades is a relatively easy roguelike to finish. It's nowhere near as punishing and the final ending comes just by beating the game 10 times.
Is he like 5? I played silent hill 2 around that age and totally didn't grasp the messaging going on in the story telling lol.
The stellar blade stuff at the end was so funny. They put on one strip of cloth and its like the second tower was hit.
Mr. President, second fabric scrap has hit the character model

I always assumed the reason Jesus never healed his stigmata was because he just was freaky like that
@@LoveOlsson98 He spent his life traveling with 12 men who were devoted to him. He was the lead of a male harem. Definitely into some kinky shit.
Why didn't Jesus just pull himself off the cross? Is he stupid???
Another thing that is very telling is that these same people think that 'woke' people are easily offended and want to live in a perfect, conflict free world where nobody' s feelings are hurt.
but when they come with something imperfect, e.g. a disabled god in this case, they immediately want a magical fix to it - i thought it was woke to want everything to be flawless and perfect?

Don't give them that much credit. Its not that they don't understand, they don't care to understand.

The sentence is not saying: "This is bad" en se, it's more like "We've seen this a million times before and it's frankly just boring now"
Idk if that was already clear, but given Shaun's reply, I just wanted to make sure it was understood not as a serious critique (which it isn't meant to be) but a series of first impressions upon the writer.
Thanks for going through the effort of trying to add extra nuance
French is a third language to me and I'm trying to learn japanese for fun.

It’s thanks to gay men that a lot of beautiful women’s fashion exists.
Crazy how much they shoot themselves in the foot

Supergiant are absolutely amazing, Pyre is one of my all time favourite games.
Their anti crunch practices are fantastic too.
Vee’s pfp already reflects the person. Already an ugly troll err… troll both inside and outside living and thriving in a cesspool of hate.
To these people "more talented" just means white men.
@@LudicollisionPyre was so great!
Not to mention he praised Saudi Arabias censorship of Spiderman 2
Aphrodite's design isn't even that of a trans person these dudes are just allergic to women with cheekbones and big noses!!!
...not saying that there aren't trans people as pretty as that Aphrodite out there, just reinforcing that he's wrong about everything
Besides lacking any knowledge about the topics, they rage about or pretend to. I'm glad they don't run the gambit on "artistic freedom" because imagine how incredibly bland media will be if every character is just a sex toy regardless of the context of whether that makes sense or adds to the character. Honestly, I sometimes wish these losers would actually try getting into game development or journalism just to be left seething and humiliated

OFC, you can claim "muh pedantry!", but it's really not. The wheelchair as you think of it was invented more than 1.5 millennia after. The wheelchairs of that time were 4-legged chairs with tiny wheels on each leg. The chariot requires someone to be dragging the person along. @@mikepike7139 "the horror section with jump scares and scary monsters" is how shaun referred to it. but even if it were going for mystery, the choonage you're hearing here is called "driving" trance for a reason lol. this kind of trance is played at raves and festivals like edc all the time. metaphorically speaking, it's called "driving" trance because it's trying to keep the musical momentum going, driving the live set forward. it's bright and epic and far too fast for a section of the game that's dark, spooky, and trying to slow you down mechanically. in that sense, it's not unconventional, it's just wrong. unless the monsters you're shooting in this section used to be, idk, kandi kids before they turned into monsters. who knows.

Fun fact! Even the bit of Stellar Blade’s story that wasn’t ripped off from Nier Automata (the origin of the Nativas) was copied from an anime called Suisei no Gargantia
Loved that show, it was so sad when I rewatched it and found they had some weird trans filler plot on like episode 4 or something.
@mothersbasement i really can,t fathom how much of a cuck ,you have to be from promoting socialism in a kaguya sama vid to never making a vid on end of AOT, cause your racial activist friends like future diaries & f.d.signifier thinks its fascist for the most ludacris reasons with only 1 reason being of reason.
and now you are under a vid from a leftie breadtuber manipulating data to lie about what happened.
and the only reason ,he can do this is cause he is taking advantage of trash optics of anti woke sloptubers & shady history of mark kern.
i & many others in anti woke sphere are aware of mark kern,s shady past ,especially his ember grift at this time.
i know exactly why shaun after making a vid on stellar blade after all the drama has long been gone, didn,t used upper echelon,s vid on grummz ember grift.
cause UE starts his vid with comparing zoe quins crowdfunding scams during gamergate & shows how grummz was doing the same thing but the right wing was ignoring it just like how left or msm lefties fully covered up anything wrong from anita & zoe & fem freq,s part.
i can easily see how he only used anti woke sloptubers, but never used someone like shortfatotaku,s stellar blade vid, where dev from sfo ,even though sfo came to the conclusion even though sony has a history of censorship ,it didn,t censored stellar blade.
cause the most likely reason was s.k fashion & clothing laws.as the outits which were censored were all based on irl clothing models used.
and no ppl are not stupid, the industry, especially game journalism is filled with woke ideologues , and everyone is aware of their history of shoving politics in their articles.
and they also called nier, bayo3 sexist back then too.sfo had made a vid on this when bayo3 drama happened."bayo-nutters".
and he showed the revisionism with nier in his stellar blade vid too.
SHAUN also didn,t showed any articles which were whining about stellar blade,s appeall to male-gaze ,which came at start of controversy & the article whining about orientalism, male, gaze & what not just b4 launch.
neither did he showed any articles trying to downplay stellar blade success after it was so successful.
and everyone knows how they tried to smear black myth wukong as sexist over very wrong mistranslations & then ign recommending that wukong is sexist article in all of their other articles & then every other game journo site followed the same & then started saying it sexist & has no diversity.
and after its success, they tried to smear or downplay its succes too.
lets not forget how lefties tried smearing mark on the basis of his personal life & how those were wrong or just lying, which upper echelon had mentioned in his vid on grummz.
but of course this goes against SHAUN,s narrative of stupid, sexist gamers want women have no agency narrative....sorry its callled propaganda.
i mean i know, how much of a cuck you are, so it will not change anything regarding your opinion.
also sfo had also pointed out how wokies were calling eve looking like a baby or child, & made the conclusion that wokies confuse certain features with being childlike cause acc to them, you can only look fit, slim at childhood & naturally become colour haired obese unfit goblins with age.sfo was making a connection here to his vid on body positivity, fat activism vid.
but SHAUN never showed this bs from his side but did showed bs from antiwokes who nitpicked detaails being trans
Wow, they're more lacking in originality than I thought! Says a lot about the people who laud Stellar Blade as the peak of game design lmao

I’m sorry but the line “why would god be in a wheelchair” when talking about HEPHAESTUS kills me. These people are just stupid.
Who needs research when ignorance gets clicks
Ah yes Hephaestus...The god famously known for being crippled.
tell me you know nothing about Greek mythology with out telling me you know nothing about Greek mythology
i dont like the design i imagine him being more depressed after all the stuff that was done to him
@@Rawnblade13 He was depicted as being deformed quite a bit
