    Nice research
My question how do you discard the activated carbon in which the Pharmaceuticals had be absorbed to the surface

Answer from Ellen: When granular activated carbon (GAC) is used it can be regenerated by removing the adsorbed compounds and reactivated through some industrial processes. After regeneration the GAC can be reused. Another form of activated carbon is powdered activated carbon (PAC), which is much smaller particles. PAC cannot be regenerated and is instead incinerated or put on landfill depending on what the carbon has been used for.

@@PLE_LU Hello, I had an additional question based on the reply to this. If the PAC is incinerated or put in a landfill what happens to the pharmaceutical impurities. They may have been removed at first but if they are incinerated or put in landfills would they not be released back into the environment?
