- PBS Home Video: The Farmer's Wife (1998)
The Farmer's Wife takes us deep inside the world of Juanita and Darrel Buschkoetter, a remarkable young Nebraska farm couple, to tell a compelling love story. It follows the Buschkoetters over three years as they face seemingly insurmountable economic hardship, only to confront an even greater challenge: repairing their damaged marriage. What emerges is an epic story of faith, perseverance, and triumph, and an indelible portrait of a real American family's struggle to hold onto their dreams, and to each other.
one of the best films on PBS ever! I'm sorry it's not on youtube anymore
I wish I could see the whole program again they use to have it on youtube I wonder why they removed it....
I remember that he was a self centered jerk and she was a saint for putting up with him.
I also remember how he controlled her every move going to her sister wedding or baby shower, he was truly about himself and he just couldn't understand why she was so miserable with him
hamtrak I remember the episode when they sold all their cows ,then later on that week they were bitchin that they had no money for food, coulda butchered a cow duh !
Very powerful documentary. Watched all episodes. Completely changed my perspective on Agricultural America and its relationship to Urban America. - Good work Frontline.
I remember watching this. I married in 2005 at the age of 45. Darrel taught me exactly how not to behave. He was about himself and the farm and never about his family. Everything bad that happened was someone else’s fault. I was so happy when she left and happier to find out they divorced... there is no doubt in my mind that he probably still talks bad about her to his current wife...
This bio was great! Cannot believe it has already been 20 years since Frontline originally showed it. Perhaps they will do a 20 year anniversary showing.
yeah a where are they now would be nice.. Loved it'' pops into my mind all the time
I remember watching these series on PBS. Always wondered about how they are now.
Darrel and Juanita divorced and each has since remarried and are happy in their new lives. The girls see both parents often and the two oldest girls are in college. Juanita is managing crop insurance and Darrel still has the farm going. That was the last article I read about them.... and I think that was around 2006 or 07.
Search for "Greetings from Darrel Buschkoetter" on UA-cam. Recent vid from him.
I remember watching this and knowing they'd eventually divorce. I remember the husband admitted sometimes when he gets mad he'd call her an ugly B. She was helping him with the farm and working as a maid to bring in extra money. I know her mom didn't really like him because she offered to get her teeth fixed probably so she'd find someone else, which she eventually did. The wife mentioned how she was the only one of her siblings that didn't have a degree. She eventually did get a degree. I don't remember in what, but was happy for her because she wasn't appreciated.
@@vernivon2856 I definitely saw that she looked worn down emotionally dealing with someone so ignorant and unappreciative. She looked so sad. I was so happy to find out years later from the Internet that she had married someone else.
I saw this when it first aired on PBS and it has stayed with me since then. I was really pulling for this family in every way. Now, in 2020, I wonder how many new families, like the Buschkoetters, are out there struggling to save their family farms.

Giana Isabella thanks I always wondered about what happened to them.
She is divorced again. Darrel was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 3 years ago. Has had to have both knees replaced.
Gosh, I loved this documentary.
I watched every episode.
I wish you tube had the full episodes so I would be able to watch em again.

Really good documentary..
I watced this several times I'm kinda sad to read they divorced
This was a great movie. Very moving.
They divorced and each married again to other people.
I only saw part of this but never forgot it. I remember that the mom brought a little gift for one of the girls and the girl was disappointed. The mom just didn't have money for something better. It broke my heart how much that must have hurt. I wish I could see the whole thing. Searched the PBS Frontline website, but didn't find it. Anyone know how to buy it?
I believe if you go on www.pbs.com look up the farmers wife, you will probably have to register for PBS, im pretty sure you can get it on amazon, maybe Netflix,
Thank you. We don't get Netflix ( I know, we are probably the only ones who don't), but I will try Amazon. Thanks again.
You can also try your local library. Ours has a copy. If yours doesn't, they might be able to get it through inter-library loan.

I LOVED this movie when it first came out. I forgot about it until now
Thanks for posting, williebcool!!! I watched this documentary several times and always enjoyed it. As well as the "content", I enjoyed listening to the music that was played in the background. Found (and informative to view) a video posted by Darrel which provides some updates.
He is so hot!
I remember watching this. Can hardly believe it was 20 yrs ago. It was excellent. Don't see it on UA-cam anymore.
