    3:05 Man, you're not kidding about "peg hunting"! That was the best part. Searching through an entire row of Joes, just to find the exact one you're looking for, hiding near the back! When I found it, I'd leave it hidden while I went to find my parents to help get it for me. Those cards that required you to take EVERY figure off the rack just to get to the back?
    The only better thing I remember is the day I saw an entire, new, unopened factory box come out of the back storage area. My dad asked an employee if he could go check the boxes for one Joe, and he did, and brought the unopened box up for us to open and search!

    • @MichaelMercy
      @MichaelMercy  6 років тому

      Haha, yeah the old "take every figure off to get the last one on the peg" maneuver. I think I got to go through an unopened box once. I was so excited to be able to do that, but it was bittersweet since there was nothing interesting in the box. lol

    This vid was the perfect way to relax with a cup of coffee on Saturday morning! Cannot say enough about vintage 80's card art and the overall packaging of the era. So much thought and creativity was put into every product. Keep up the great work on this channel Michael.

      Glad to hear that! I grew up being entertained on Saturday mornings by great toons, so it's nice to know I can now create something that will entertain on a Saturday morning. :D I miss the days of individual character art on packaging. Doesn't seem to be enough time to put that much thought into each character anymore.

    I remember feeling very lucky as a child. The neighbors' son Todd was a high schooler and he worked at the toy store at the local mall. Todd was very nice to me, I think because he liked my older sister, lol. Anyway, sometimes I would give Todd a list of the Joes I was looking for and he'd call me at home if one of them made it into the store. I still remember begging my mother to take me up there when Todd called and said they had just gotten in one Storm Shadow and one Firefly and he'd hold them for me. Finally my mom gave in and took me up but I could only get one. I didn't care, I was just happy. I chose Storm Shadow. And I almost lost his nunchuks down a sink drain before dinner time. I think I was recreating a flood from the Cobra weather dominator Hahahaha. Todd came over after work and surprised me with... Firefly! I'm not sure I touched my other Joes all week. I even snuck them to school. Firefly in one pocket and Storm Shadow in the other. Fun times. Maybe just for laughs I should send my sister a card thanking her for the Firefly! 🙏 Thanks again for the great videos.

    Well finish watching all your collection dint commend the rest of the videos becasue I wanted to finish watching the videos and just say what an awesome collection wish i had extra money to build my museum, and yeah I grew up watching the commercials of toys r us and I never went to the store because I was in Tijuana mexico LOL we dint get any toys R us on this side so all my child hood i only watch the store on the TV until I was 27 i got my visa and yes one of the first things to do was going to the store but for a surprise there where no 80's or 90's toys hahaha but it was awesome to watch all the figures all the new toys that well now I like, I collect Marvel legends Trying to get the version of the cartoon from the 90's and also spiderman characters from the cartoon of the 90's as well, also love transformers i don't have any G1 well the only one is optimus prime incomplete but I have it, from transformers i ahd a lot of generations but i started to sale them to get MP's I will stick with the MP line have a couple but trying to clean up the collection, funny enough I do have vintage gobots i have a soft spot for them, but my main figures that I collect is TMNT vintage and some new ones, have other random figures from games becasue i love game as well vintage one's that is I collect vintage games mainly Nintendo games or consoles. and I saw on the second part of your videos a big bot Grendizer is very cool character, but the one that I love and grew up was mazinger Z i only have one it is the 40th anniversary soul of Chogokin, that I recommend if you want a companion for your Grendizer. I grew up with all of those cartoons that you mention and toys but a lot of them dint stick to my nostalgia, or maybe is because right now all the figures are hard to get and price is just crazy, but one day will put out my collection is awesome to have all the figures on display to show up to friends family and is relaxing to watch all your favorite characters on display.
    A use to care about my toys back in the day I had a lot of silver hawks, Gi-joes, starwars, transformers G1, MOTU, Robotech, gobots TMNT insectors, but you know what the neighborhood that we live back in the day was to getto and all my toys where stolen sucks LOL, so I started collecting like 9 years back Im 36, so I get what I can now, if is on a good price that is.
    thank you for your videos to bring joy and nostalgia to my eyes and memories great videos
    thanks for sharing thumps up.

    I've been watching your very entertaining videos just lately and what a walk down memory lane for me. While I did not have many of these toys, my younger brother did. He is 6 years younger than I am and we always got along great. I totally get the museum idea and the way you've mixed figures on cards and diorama-style displays is awesome. I also get the "garnish" idea and I've now seen toys on your videos that I either never knew about or simply disregarded. You're not so much into Star Wars and, well, not everyone could be. Even as a kid I was amazed that my brother had Star Wars, LEGOs, Transformers, and He-Man toys. Quite a collection and the way he took care of them and displayed them probably helped him earn more. He-Man characters were more like caricatures but the show was REALLY good. Transformers were superb and both the show/amazing world of Eternia and the toys were ingenious. I remember my brother getting both the Constructicons and Superion based on the stories from the show. Amazing ideas and linking of the story to the toys. I wonder if you knew about Battlestar Gallactica toys but really a very late 70s product and they didn't last long much like the show. Nerdmaste!

    When the 25th anniversary card backs came out... wow has it been a decade ago??? I was hunting for joes that I didn’t have. I’m going thru the pegs feeling like a little boy again and found ONE Zaratan figure. Of course it was after I had gone through all the pegs... I was literally a grown ass man screaming “YES” in the store and I couldn’t care less what anyone thought of me. Lol

    Once again you've solved a childhood mystery of mine. I remember my dad telling me he had read about a new show in the newspaper. No clue why it was in the paper, but he told me you could shoot at it with a laser gun and blow up the ships on the TV. He said I could use a gun I already had. Which was just a blinking light noise maker thrift store special. I didn't think he was right but I tried it out anyways. I was right, but didn't care for the show anyways. So, no loss. I'd always wondered what that show was and how it was supposed to actually work. Reminded me of and helped me solve the mystery all in one shot. Appreciate it.

    Such a great video. The 80's were the best of everything. I remember our Toys R Us having a discount isle behind the main isle of action figures, and if my brother and I were short on cash, we would search the obscure lines like battlebeasts, m.u.s.c.l.e. men, madballs. yeah I definitely loved seeing that. 80s did such a great job with toys, and tv shows and obviously it shows because a lot of collectors their stuff is from the 80s. I like that they're remaking a lot of the stuff and adding more articulation to some of the older stuff. Seeing the G.I. Joe Shipwreck he was my hardest one to find as a kid. I eventually got him and I still have him to this day. Him Quick Kick and I liked Mainframe because his attire reminded me of the uniforms worn on Airwolf.

    Really loving seeing your collection and can't wait for the next part :) There are so many great pieces, some of which I have not seen before and hope to find for my collection. Thank you for sharing it with us :D
    As to peg hunting memories one of my best ones was when I was about ten, I had just read an issue of transformers Uk comic, which had Twin twist and Top spin in it and then went out with my Mum and Dad up the town, we went into a couple of the shops, one of which had a really big toy department so they let my Sister and I have a look around for a bit as we both had some savings and pocket money to spend. I was happily looking at all the different lines including He-man and Action Force, which was the name for G.I.Joe in the UK and then came to the Transformers, I look through the different rows of figures and as I was found both Twin twist and Top spin near the back, which I could believe at the time, I asked my Mum how much I had to spend and found out that it was just enough to get both of them, so I went home very happy that day and they are both in my collection to this day :)

    • @MichaelMercy
      @MichaelMercy  6 років тому +1

      Thanks! Glad you're enjoying. Finding buried treasures in the back was always so exciting! I remember having to remove entire rows of Joes to get at figures I wanted at the very back of the peg since the old Joe cards only had holes and not the hooks like today. I've also got Top Spin and Twin Twist. Very cool TFs. I like how they have more of a Cybertronian looking design, as if they stayed behind when all the other Autobots left for Earth.

    • @Draco20001
      @Draco20001 6 років тому

      Yeah I did that a few times too :) The designs of Top spin and Twin Twist were one of things that made me want them so much, they were so different for the time.

    I too am a proud Canadian, but was always annoyed by the french text on the packaging. Wasn't much of an issue on the original stuff that came out in the 80s, but is more of annoyance with all of the re-issues of today.

    Really enjoying these videos but I do have a question. What’s up with the transformer figures in human form and the mask character being included in the G.I. joe collection. Were they featured like that in comic mash ups of transformers vs G.I. Joe or other media that I’m not aware of? Or is it more of a realist toy store thing where going through the carded figures of say Star Wars, you would find a G.I. joe hidden lol. I remember doing that as a kid, hiding a figure somewhere then go back later to get it.

    I saw this virtual tour of your very very awesome collection (nice 👍🏽) and I was wondering, how do you maintain it? As in cleaning, light exposure etc. And how do you deal with that plastic breakdown (aka slimy surface)? With many vintage collections, I've seen this as a regular issue but no real answers to it.

Also, GalaxyRangers toys all came out in UK and even a TRANSFORMING Inspector Gadget Diecast Bandai Car I got from Japan, see my Toy Time videos...
    I came back from my summer trip when I was a kid in the late 80s and found my entire Mego, HeMan and Castle Eterneria with 3 towers, SilverHawks and Mask collection stolen. But Im ok. Now I create comics :-)
