    Hard or not I want Bo starting week 1. He’s strong enough physically, mentally and emotionally and mature enough to handle it. Bo will have rough games but I think he’s going to catch fire after the first 5-6 games. He needs to make mistakes and learn from them. Broncos country needs patience.

    Brother, there are a lot of Nix Haters out there. I'm no Fan-Boy, but my God -- he sure looked good on the tape I saw. He seems to check all of Payton's boxes. I remember when San Diego traded Brees to New Orleans because he "just wasn't good enough". I believe he won more super bowls than Rivers, eh?

      He won more Super Bowls that Rivers because he had Payton coaching him. San Diego didn't trade Brees to New Orleans, the Saints signed him as a free agent. His contract had expired, & the fact is, he was NOT good enough. Brees sat his rookie year, then started in year two. He went through 30 starts before he turned the corner. His first two years as a starter he was bad. In year three, he had a good season & made the pro bowl. But the next year he regressed & he was a major reason the Chargers started 2-9 & were out of it by the mid-point in the season. The Chargers had seen enough. They had already obtained Philip Rivers a year earlier. Also, not only did Brees take a step back in 2005 from the year he had before, but only 3 months prior to Payton signing him for the Saints he had a major shoulder injury & surgery. The rest of the NFL thought he was done. Brees himself thought so also. In an interview with a reporter years later he admitted this. He failed a physical in Miami & nobody else but the Saints offered him a contract.
      If Drew Brees needed to sit for 30 starts, we should not assume that Nix is a day one or year one starter.

Nix has 64 games in power conference starts. The pre draft evaluation with Bo, made Nix Payton’s target. I agree with nearly everything you said. Maybe all. I don’t think Payton can announce that Nix is our starter. Every player needs to earn his spot. But it’s Bo’s job to lose. And he is far better than the media people who have not played think he is. I can’t think of a former QB who has come out doubting Nix. In the NFL there are no sure things, but Bo is as close as you can get.
    Mostly, however, there are so many unknowns, as you point out. For some reason, people think only the Broncos unknowns are negative. But unknowns mean a team can go either way. Seattle has a new coach. That makes them an unknown. So why are they considered scary? And so all through the schedule.
    The Broncos are in a pretty good place. The biggest question mark in my opinion is the secondary. Improved defensive line, improved edge rushers. Overall improved offense because of Bo Nix. I believe in our receivers; I believe in our running backs. I’m a little concerned about center, but TE should be improved with Dulcich back. So why are fans and pundits alike convinced this is a “growing” year? It might be, but we could just as easily be the team that becomes the next team with the Rookie of the Year at QB.

    • @JWLSports

      @rluellam 15 годин тому

      @@tyronegrant3422 I can only assume the other teams who took a QB in the draft were looking for something different from what Sean Payton was looking for. What is factual, is that Nix improved every year he played; was the most accurate passer in college history, even when factoring out the behind the line or screen passes; gets the ball out on time; processes the defense pre and post snap; and can set protection at the LoS. Those are awfully good attributes to have, but apparently other coaches cared more about something else they perceive to elevate QB play. Time will tell.

    I love your optimism!
    I assume Payton will not sit Nix if he has confidence in him because we don't have a bonafide starter in front of him. Not the same situation as Smith and Mahomes.
    You're right, once the season starts the coach will be all in on the starter, not looking to change horses in the middle of the race. Hopefully Nix impresses in TC and makes it an easy decision for the coaches. Go Broncos!

    • @user-zr4km5ns8t
      @user-zr4km5ns8t 22 дні тому

      The idea that we don't have a bonafide starter in front of him is an assumption made by fans without the knowledge of whether that is true. In fact, we might have one. Payton himself has said that he thinks Stidham can be a starter in the NFL. He even praised him as having the same kind of things Brees had. This was over a year ago...& the media ignored it. He said it twice in fact, but few people picked up on it. Payton will likely do what is necessary to get the best out of Nix since he has invested at high draft pick in him, & if that means sitting him as a rookie, he'll do it.

      @@UncoolPeak125 Do you know what kind of resume Drew Brees had when Payton signed him? He had 5 seasons in the NFL, & only one of them was good. Brees had 30 starts under his belt before he was looked at as a good QB, & the year after his 2004 season when he broke out, he had a disastrous one. He was anything but a proven starter, & in fact he was also coming off a shoulder injury just 3 months earlier that the rest of the NFL including he himself thought might have ended his career.
      Payton will start a guy who is not a proven starter if he thinks he can run his offense. He won't start a rookie unless he is making it very obvious that he can. We don't know if Nix can do that. We do know Stidham can do it. We also know that the system Nix played in while in college at both Auburn & Oregon is one of the worst in terms of NFL preparation so there is no reason to be confident that Nix is going to be the starer in 2024 at this point. If he demonstrates he can by winning the job he'll get it, but that is by no means a sure thing.

      Stidham has started 16 games, has never been a day 1 starter, has a composite passer rating of 78, and in 3 starts last season has 2 TD and 1 int.
      He was also passed on by two other teams. Usually if a QB is passed up by 2 teams, it's not a sign that he is very good.
      If it's a choice between that production and Bo Nix, guaranteed they start Bo Nix.

    • @user-zr4km5ns8t
      @user-zr4km5ns8t 18 днів тому

      @@UncoolPeak125 You have multiple things incorrect. Two teams did not move on from Jarret Stidham, only the Patriots did that. The Raiders wanted to resign him, & Payton beat them to the punch by offering him a lot more money than anyone expected. Why do you think he did that if he's not very good? Does Payton not know QB talent? Sean also went out of his way on more than one occasion to praise Stidham last year, calling him a guy who is trending to be a starter & noting his fast processor, intelligence & ability to read NFL defenses...something we won't know if Nix can do until he actually does it.
      You also got his starts wrong. Stidham has 4 starts in the NFL, not 16. Where did you get that from? He's never been a day one starter in the NFL? So what...neither was Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes. Calling him a "day 1 starter for 4 seasons" means he was not a rookie day 1 starter, & neither are most successful NFL quarterbacks, so what's your point? Who did he not start in front of? Well that would be Tom Brady...the GOAT with 6 Super Bowl trophies, then former 1st overall NFL draft pick Cam Newton...another Super Bowl QB. Belichick was wanting to see if he could make one final run with the vet to make the playoffs. The following year he was injured & out for year, which may have derailed his prospects to start. A lot of Boston media thought he would start. Mac Jones started instead...a first round pick who among his primary qualities...was accuracy. Jones completed 77.4% of his passes his senior year at Alabama. If that number sounds familiar....it should. It's the exact same number Nix had at Oregon his last year. That didn't help Jones in the NFL. He's now a backup.
      On to the Raiders...where he sits behind pro bowler Derek Carr...& finally Russell Wilson...a 9 time pro bowler with two Super Bowls making $50 million a year. So that fact that he' s never been a "day 1 starter" is both meaningless & ridiculously stupid to bring up.
      You mention Brees' early career. He sucked for his first 30 starts. Fact check me. I examined every one of them. Even AFTER he turned the corner in 2004 & made the pro bowl, the following year he regressed. His numbers across the board dipped. In fact he was one of the main reasons the Chargers went 2-9 & were cooked by the 6th game of the year with a 1-5 record. San Diego was done with him & traded for his replacement the year before that. Keep in mind that failure on his part came with future HOF RB LaDainian Tomlinson lined up in the backfield with him. It's not like he had no help.
      The idea that a QB can't be very good if two teams move on from him almost applied to Drew Brees. Did you know that nobody in the NFL other than Sean Payton offered him a contract when the Chargers let him walk? That's right...nobody. Drew was coming off a very serious shoulder injury with two separate severe injuries on one play. He had major surgery only 3 months before Payton signed him. He failed a physical in Miami & Brees himself said he figured his NFL career was over.
      Sean Payton has a different opinion of Jarrett Stidham than you do. He's also very leery of starting a rookie QB. Will Nix overcome that? Maybe. That's all we can say at this point.

    My vote, start him week 5 home vs. Raiders. Let him learn from afar with that tough road schedule. Broncos NEVER do well with 11a.m. (9am MST) East coast games. Zack who has had terrible coaches and needs to completely relearn how to apply his skills in the NFL? Bo Nix will be starting because he is the future in denver and we have nobody better. Why would there be detractors of Bo Nix, there was no one more favourable in the draft, save for maybe Brock Bowers TE. Zach Wilson is insurance, probably brought in because Payton saw something in his ability that he felt attributed more to their loss against the JETS than the coaching…
    Zach’s presence speaks more unfavourably of their confidence in Stidham, if anything. They even invited that Division II QB John Matocha, who is the NCAA touchdown passing leader, with 162 TDs…
    I am as optimistic as the next person, but realistically, the Broncos could easily be 0-4 behind a rookie QB, or a glorified backup. It would be more likely that Zach Wilson could actually be the starter opening game against the Seahawks, than Fields starting over Russell Wilson for the Steelers that same weekend…

Remember they made fun of Russell Wilson for struggling with it but don't forget Russel had a Seahawks playbook a year later Hackett playbook and then Sean Payton's playbook can't blame him for mixing things up and probably struggling with it. even with that being said, 28 touchdowns to eight interceptions and not even playing the last two games is actually pretty good. Are you really comparing Bo Nix to Patrick Mahomes? That's a little premature I would say. Payton has indeed done a masterful job with quarterbacks. One of them is Jarrett Stidham, who has a year in this offense already, not to mention another one with Tom Brady & Belichick plus a year with Josh McDaniels.Development is the key to creating a franchise QB, & Jarrett Stidham has a lot of it now.
    Nix played 4 of his 5 seasons in college in one of the weakest offensive systems in terms of its transferable value for the NFL. Don't take my word for that. Take the word of NFL QB trainer Jordan Palmer who trained Joe Burrows & Josh Allen. He also trained Stidham, & he played in exactly the same system Nix did at Auburn, & later at Oregon. Palmer said that when Jarrett got to the New England Patriots, he was shocked at how little value his college experience contributed to hm knowing how to play QB in the NFL. In short, he said he was as ill prepared as any rookie he had ever seen. Once again...he played in the same offense Nix did for all of his college career except 2021. That was the year Auburn fired coach Gus Malzahn & hired Boise State's Bryan Harsin. Harsin junked the gimmicky Malzahn spread with it's pace concepts & replaced it with NFL passing sets that required more & more complex reads.
    Nix responded by struggling so much that he had to be benched at one point. At the end of he year he immediately bolted through the transfer portal to Oregon. Why Oregon? He was following his old OC Kenny Dillingham who jumped to the Ducks when Malzahn got canned. Nix wanted to get back into the system Malzahn created, which gives quarterbacks a huge advantage. On his way out he was asked by reporters how he felt about the year he had playing for Harsin. Nix called it "a nightmare". Nobody knows if Bo Nix can make the kind of super fast reads in the NFL he did at Oregon, where he was not only protected behind a top 3 offensive line but playing with NFL caliber talent at the skill positions. He was also makng one or at the most, two reads, not five or more like he will in the NFL. The fact that he memorized a few pages of the playbook in rookie mini-camp doesn't mean that there are no questions about whether he can transfer the entire thing into actual post snap reads of extremely complex NFL defenses under live fire in real NFL games. We are going to find out.
    One guy we do know who can do that however is Jarrett Stidham. Why? Because Sean Payton has already directly told us so over a year ago when he signed him. So have multiple others, including NFL players on the Raiders, 49ers & Broncos. Payton praised Stidham not once, but twice in video interviews, each time going out of his way to compliment him on the same things he is currently complimenting Nix on...a fast mental processor, a high football IQ, etc...he also said he sees him as a potential starter & praised his toughness. So the point here is this; playing an extra year at Oregon might have some value, but the real question is whether it's worth more than 4 years spent in some of the best NFL QB rooms that exist. What if Nix had not stayed in college for 5 years? What if he had come out after 3 like Stidham did? Would he have been a first round pick? No...not even close. Now flip the script...what if Stidham had been the guy who transferred to better team & played an extra two years? Would he have been drafted in the 4th round? Almost certainly no. He'd have gone in round one.
    Now we will see if Sean Payton's instincts about him are correct, or if his other pupil who has more time in the NFL coaching systems can overcome that extra year in college. Nix might well start, but the history of rookies who do is not very good. It's not a slam dunk at all that he does, or that he's the next franchise level QB either. All the hype surrounding Nix existed in 2019 when Denver drafted Drew Lock. I'll wait to see if the guy EARNS the job. If he does, more power to him. But he does have to do that. Payton is not going to simply give it to him, & if you think so you don't understand Sean Payton very well.

      This is nonsense. First, nobody hates Nix, they are simply pointing out legitimate concerns that many people including NFL scouts have concerns about. Second, the Denver media is lazy. They have done very little research on Nix. Mostly they've simply tossed out surface level public relations statements about how wonderful he is. The truth is, Nix comes with some concerns. Sean Payton may very well be able to work around them & help develop him past them, but it's not a guarantee that simply because he looked good in rookie mini-camp throwing to other rookies with no defense & guys in shorts & T-shirts that he's a surefire rookie phenom who will start. That is not how the NFL works. People need to back off putting this guy under needless pressure & just see what happens.

      @user-zr4km5ns8t you can say that about calib Williams And every qb in the draft. They all have some sort of issue not perfect. But one thing that Nix has that all the others didn't is the 70 percent completion rate no other qb in this draft is as accurate. But we will see like you said they put unnecessary pressure on these guys. We gonna see shakes out cuz 4 out of the 6 taken most likely gonna fail my friend. Good comment much respect for you bro.

    • @user-zr4km5ns8t

      @@James-xt1qy To be clear, Mac Jones had the same exact 77.4% completion rate his last year at Alabama as Nix had at Oregon & the same career completion percentage rate in the SEC that Nix had in his two years at Oregon..easily besting what Nix did in his time playing against SEC defenses. That fact hasn't kept him from now being a backup QB in the NFL. This is an entirely different game. The hash marks spread the wide side of the field out & teams with a speed advantage cans stretch the field horizontally behind the defense's ability to cover all that space. I'm more interested in whether he can make 5 progression reads in under 2.5 seconds after the snap, & whether he can do so when looking downfield as opposed to 10 yards from the LOS.

    I did not hear the analyst say Nix could not compete for the starting role.
    What I think Payton should do is start the guy who can win the job between Stidham, Wilson, and Nix.
    You have every other player on the roster to answer to on that front and all of those guys ONLY want the best guy for the job as they are working their tails off to win! They don't want to hear that the rookie QB is the starting QB just because he was picked in the 1st round and fans and armchair analysts are clamoring for him.
    You also don't want to set a precedent as a HC where jobs are not earned but are given based on where a guy was drafted or how much a guy is being paid. That is what losing organizations do.

    • @JWLSports
      @JWLSports  12 днів тому

      @lonestarpatriot876 12 днів тому

      @JWLSports Caleb Williams has not done anything in the NFL yet and according to reports is struggling in camp.
      C.J. Stroud won the job. Bo Nix has not won anything yet. In fact, while he has been good in camp, it was clear to reporters who were at the practices that Stidham was ahead of Wilson and Nix in their practices together.
      This is to be expected as Stidham has more time in the system and has worked with most of the WR's and TE's for a full year.
      It is a bad idea to start a guy just because of where he was picked. You start the best guy for the job. It is that simple. Not doing so would be a piss poor mistake and a good way for a HC to lose the locker room and his job not long after that.
