  • Gday and welcome to foord offroad
    In this video I demonstrate how to do a automatic transmission service on a Toyota Hilux
    Please keep in mind this is a sr5 with the 5 speed auto and an aftermarket trans cooler fitted
    Your vehicle may take less oil, to be sure start with 4L and top up as required
    This procedure is the same for most automatics but they will take a different amount of oil back in
    If you are unsure what oil and how much to put in your car there is a Penrite oils app that can tell you everything
    Make sure to run the vehicle through the gears and leave in neutral with the engine running before checking the oil level
    Hope this video has helped someone out

    Nice simple run-through, champ!
    I bought a pump and it's still a pain in the arse because of the thin dipstick shaft.
    I got a small piece of tube to go in the dipstick, clamped onto a fat tube going to a big funnel - this lets the air move around, also I keep it wired to the bonnet so i can fill up like a litre at a time and have free hands while it dribbles in. Way better than the pump!

    you mixed new fluid with old burnt fluid. Best is to use oem fluid and purge out 1 or 2 liter at a time thru the bottom radiator trans return line , then you add that same amount of fluid your removed thru the dipstick. until you see clean fluid coming out of the radiator transmission cooling line.
    just turn car on a few seconds at intervals and watch the oem pump do the job.

    Is that 5.5 lt including a fitted oil cooler at front of lux? I dropped 5.5 in then had to drain some out. Cold lvl was 10mm above the hot line. Mines a 06.

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  3 роки тому +1

      5.5 is what Penrite oils say goes in it, that was right for me, I have a front cooler so possibly yours would take slightly less if you just have the standard cooler

    Hi , I did mine with the help of this video, thanks
    I am struggling with checking the oil level
    If it stands overnight it’s above the hot max level ,
    And also the same with when engine is warm
    Any pointers would help a lot
    PS I did it on 3.0 D4D auto 4x4 Fortuner 2015

    Hi mate, great video on service, question tho, ive researched and come back with needing 10.6 litres of oil for the trans, how much did you put in??
    Cheers Wazza

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  2 роки тому

      10.6 will likely be the full dry fill capacity, as in if the gearbox was being assembled

    I man I managed to cross thread 4 of my bolts on the sump, they just keep spinning when I try to tighten them, any advice ?

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  3 роки тому +1

      That sucks, you’ll have to pull them out and tap a new thread and get some new bolts, m6 Is the thread size but if they are really striped you may have to drill and tap out to a m8 thread
      that’s the proper way to do it
      or the easy way is a lot of silicone and cross your fingers that it doesn’t leak haha

      It’s great for everyday use, in traffic, towing and slow controlled crawling offroad…. And the missus can drive it
      Only downside is it’s not sequential so in 4wd it’s difficult to make it change out of first gear if your on a hill and need to give it some

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  2 роки тому

      Silicon will work just make sure it’s okay to use with oil and leave it to dry for the right amount of time before filling it up
