I like the idea of the strawberries in the towers. All those lettuce varieties in the tower look great. I like that you have beds prepared for next year - way to to stay on top of things! I always enjoy your videos, especially garden tours. Such a big garden, so many things growing. Thanks for making my morning. (I haven't been around much in videos or livestreams. My cat Fireball was very sick - had a stroke caused by anesthesia from dental surgery; he passed away on Halloween. Grief takes a lot out of me). I still have my sweet Luna (pictured).
Oh no. Pets are like family.
@@THERUSTEDGARDEN They sure are family for real. My parents, brothers, and fiancé died years ago. I've lost pets since then too. Luna is all I have left. She's sticking to me like glue, so that I don't disappear too. She hides when I have to leave the house, which isn't often. Gardening helps, but I stopped unexpectedly a couple of years ago. I needs to start again. I've built "5 gallon grow tables" and purchased 3 GreenStalks since then, with the intention of starting again. Hope floats.
Fireball ❤️ very sorry for your loss, he’s beautiful 💓 gardening has been helping me get through these tough times of grief, watching, Gary and a couple other gardeners in YT have been helping me since our kitty rockstar passed a year ago August and had to put our old girl Gidget down in August this year, and her friend Tank is right behind her right now in his last phase😞he has special needs, I totally encourage you to get back into gardening just throw some seeds down and see what happens🥰, lettuce, and carrots are what I started with last year when I got back into it! Gardening has helped me and I hope it helps you! Lots of strength your way,💪😎🐈💓
@@mamabearthrives7815 Thank you very much for your kind words, encouragement, and understanding. I'm sorry for your losses, too, and glad that you found the strength to carry out peace and mercy, to curb suffering that wouldn't end. I do have many types of seeds, and so many ideas and dreams about a garden I can manage in my current state of health. You're right, "just do it". Thank you. Peace and mercy for Tank, and love and kindness for your grieving heart.
@@kele1264 thank you, it’s been tough, glad we have communities like this for support 💪
My peppers got wiped out and my basil was severely damages with the thirteen hour freeze on Nov 1st. I got a final harvest of slightly over 5 pounds after coring and dicing the peppers. Some of my Elephant Garlic and grocery store mystery garlic has sprouted. I harvested the last of my turnips and have a new batch growing. I also harvested some lettuce and Pak Choi. The rutabaga roots are starting to swell, the kohlrabi is looking healthy, and the komatsuna and Yellow Heart Winter Choy are ready to start harvesting from. My pepper bed and grow bags are covered with a layer of chopped leaves for the winter. My winter tomato experiment is doing very good with all plants being healthy.
Good luck with the tomato experiment.
Absolutely beautiful fall garden tour! Really appreciate you constantly keeping us motivated and focused on our growth, which is totally my goal 💪😎👏💯💓🍂🍁🍃🥬🧄🥦🍓
Thanks for watching. I really enjoy it.
Everything looks great. Your garden looks nice even in the fall🍂🍁
Thanks
A7 17.50 you talked about all the weeds that had gone to seed. I use a powerful cordless vacuum to remove all the seeds that are loose and about to drop. Most of the rest remain at the seed-head if you pull them immediately.
Nice tip
I'm in Bowie, MD, so your schedule helps me know what to do when. Thanks.
Glad to help
Thanks Garry!
Yep
Totally awesome video and wise words!
Thanks
Thank you for everything!Beautiful garden!
thanks!
I love your videos. Thank you
Thanks so much and thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Congrats on your 2nd book! Thanks for everything.
Thanks so much!
Thank you, Gary! This was helpful.
Glad to share!
Excellent video. I’m potting up runners now. Don’t really like the kind of strawberries, June baring and very soft. But I can give them away and maybe others will have better luck. They were free to begin with, might as well pass them along.
Yeah adding in some everbearing would help.
Gary, for the strawberry runners that you are planting now and selling in the spring… can the customers expect those to produce next season?
Most varieties will produce that season.
I want to do a green house this year in my mild climate winter months
Have fun with it
Gary, hi I’ve been watching your videos for months now and have learned so much from you. I’m in zone 10a Florida I’m going to try to sale some of my pepper plants in my area organic Carolina reapers, habaneros jalapeño Poblano Thai and one other I forget the name. started them by seed the other day. This is my first garden and have had it since July its going well thank God. but, didn’t know where to go to find out rules in my area to sale those. Maybe some website?😂I watched your other video about selling plants and you really encouraged me to do this. Any suggestions would be appreciated😁
You can try and call your local county government and ask about a plant yard sale
Gary, can you explain how to properly water the strawberry towers in winter, and other items in pots and bags, like blueberries and rhubarb? My towers seem to be a little too sheltered to survive on only rain and snowmelt, and I am afraid to cause root rot by overwatering. Thanks. 😊
Is gardening your full time job? I assume so because I can't even imagine how much all those beds, containers, etc cost!
Well it is full time now but much of what you see was added over many years.
"...try not to be overwhelmed." Seriously?! - Wife says, "I like his garden he's not perfectionistic."
No perfection for sure!
Question: Will you offer a few of your plants for sale at Freetown Farm?
Not mine but there will be a lot at FreeTown
Gary, do you prune the strawberries in the Greenstalks? We just purchased our third in rust and garden red! What do you do at this time of year in zone 7a?
Question: radishes have lots of greens, but aren't bulbing. Thoughts? I'm in Maryland also - could the warm weather make this difference?
Sometimes they are finicky. They don’t need extra fertilizer and heat can make them skip bulbing
QUESTION Some of my cabbage is starting to head up, but you mentioned you eat the leaves. How do you cook them / prepare them?
I actually thinly slice them and used them in salads

Q: I want to grow marigolds, as a pest control, but they don't germinate well for me. Do you have any suggestions? Would stratification help, like plant them now in the fall?
Stratification wont help. If you are saving seeds, they often all arent viable. I might just try some other seeds. They should germinate quickly.

As we head into winter how long can one keep Beets, and Carrots etc in the garden before the Cold weather will ruin them?
I've a bumper harvest of beetroot this year, have canned some, given some away but still have shedloads.
Don't want to lose them.
Dig them up, store away in a cool dark place once we get frost?
Thanks
Im not sure how long. They can take freezing temperatures. I leave mine in until mid December. After that the prolong freezes messes them up. I live in Maryland.

Ah thanks for the heads up..
Will start thinking about harvesting them end of Nov @@THERUSTEDGARDEN
Where do you live?
I’m in Maryland
Gary, I like to eat turnips and Kohlrabi raw for a snack. How can I use them in cooking? Are they used like a potato?
Use like broccoli stem
I/2 potatoes and 1/2 Turnips for mashed potatoes. So good!
@@timtimini7641 thank you.
@@THERUSTEDGARDEN thanks.
