HBO's ROME was also cancelled was too early - an exceptional show with great production values that just "stopped" when there was so much more left to tell.
No, I'd argue that it ended at the right time, the crowning of Augustus, completing the transition from republic to empire. Of course they could go on, because Roman history is huge, but Augustus' rule was basically safe from that point on. What followed him was more chaotic, therefore there's more drama to be had, but you'd have to jump to the period that leads to ___, then Caligula, then ___ then Nero, then ___. If you get my meaning.
At the time of its production it was the most expensive show to have ever been made. Unfortunately viewership wasn’t high enough to justify another season. Damn good show though.

Archive 81 should have been included here, it had an amazing first season and with the rest of the story they could have gone really well in the sci-fi genre with the likes of stranger things
Netflix cancelling Mindhunter was jawdroppingly painful. One of the best things Netflix has ever produced. My Name is Earl was one that should've been on this list, as well as Santa Clarita Diet.
The dark Crystal age of resistance was really sad, they really went all in for that first season and the story was there as well as the fact that it would have been cheaper to produce the 2nd season with everything already built
How about Castle? The producers told everyone invovled that it would get another season, but then it was literally cancelled a week before the season finale, so they had to scramble and tack onto an extra ending to it so it didn't end on a cliffhanger.
I still hold hope about Mindhunter season 3. The reason being that since it could be about Denis Rader's arrest, it could be years without being filmed and it would not matter as the cast would be older anyway.
Yeah... Recently, the first two seasons of “The Legend of Vox Machina” were only up on Amazon Prime for a week before they released Season Three, and then the first two seasons disappeared. Never enough time.
Absolutely NOBODY thought The Acolyte was going to be renewed. And it was the actors that attacked fans, before, during and after the show ended. Just accept the show was terrible garbage, with an audience that started small and fell off a cliff.

@@jamesmswenko8292 The Acolyte was too much of a disaster to ignore. Financially it was incredibly expensive. The audience disappeared rapidly. There was little hope for the show, so their decision was probably easier.
Actually, Acolytes audience did start off strong and THEN fell off a cliff. Which only further justifies its cancellation. It was not like a large audience did not get a chance to see it. They did and then stopped watching. That alone is reason to cancel it.
Canceling shows people want to see and giving shows no one want multiple season before the first episode even premiered. Are tv and streaming services managed by fricking monkeys?
@Maria_Erias tbf Disney tends to greenlit shows that piss off people and they poured an insane amount of money into the acolyte that I think canceling it early was just as expensive

This could easily have been a top 20 list judging by the shows mentioned here in comments. I can't believe Netflix never renewed Lockwood & Co, a rare family show way better than it needed to be.
The ending of Angel may have always been the plan but it was definitely meant to have more than 5 seasons. The series could have had more seasons than Buffy. Maybe like 8 or 9 or even 10. Maybe Sarah could have guest star on the show but we will never know.
Whaaaaaat?! They They cancelled Mindhunters? Whyyy??? As pretentious as this may sound something tells me is because it's too smart and open-minded for what they think is safe consumption...
How about making a list of shitty TV l shows that didn't get cancelled that inexplicably should have been cancelled. Like shows so bad that didn't get viewers or critical accomplishments yet still got renewed. Velma just today got cancelled but how it got a 2nd season is beyond me.
How about Caprica? Brilliant show with a strong fandom that wound up being a bit too far ahead of it's time. Had it showed up a few years later, when binge viewing and smart sci-fi were a thing, it might have fared a lot better. Alas, this was before streaming, and Caprica was bound to a network (SyFy) that just didn't understand it. The audience was there, but it never had the opportunity to shine. On a similar note, Sense8. To be fair, this does make sense in retrospect. It had the typical Wachowski failing of being over-budgeted and far too ambitious. It was popular, but the costs were so high that just popular wasn't enough- it had to be a phenomenon on the level of Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad in their heyday, and never reached that level. A great pity, because it was one of the most socially relevant series of its day.
The TNG movies were generally terrible. Yellowstone was cancelled??? People were surprised the Acolyte was cancelled? It was terrible and nonsensical with no compelling characters. People were kind of surprised it was green lit. I don't think anyone cares about any Star Wars property from the last twenty years.
…..Revenge of the Sith was released in the last 20 years. The one prequel people actually like. Clone Wars one of their most successful animated show came out afterwards. Rebels, Force Awakens, Rogue One, Andor. All came out after that.
@@Materminds187 I liked Clone Wars. I mostly hated the prequels. Revenge of the Sith was the worst as it tromped all over George's actual story. It was like it had been so long who couldn't remember what was supposed to happen.
2 other big cancellations - one a Henson production, Farscape and Swamp Thing which was cancelled after the first episode aired. The first was apparently due to the cost and the producers refusing to lower the production standards, the second due to shenanigans about tax breaks in the filming locations. And as a honourable mention, Constantine but at least we got to see JC in Arrow and Legends - Matt Ryan will forever be John.

Why cant Alcolyte’s show runners just admit their show wasnt any good instead of playing the victim? You are making a product in the SW universe and those ppl are your core audience, so smart ppl would want to appeal to them. If your priority is to your personal politics, dont be pissed when ppl who just want to be entertained dont stay for the sermon.
To be clear Acolyte would still be a bad show even if you change every character to a white straight male. Bad writing is still bad writing. Blaming it on "politics" is poor criticism at best.
I will never forgive VH1 for renewing and then five months later canceling Hindsight because they wanted to concentrate on unscripted reality garbage instead. Also I will never forgive Amazon for how they treated A League of Their Own. First off, leaving us in limbo for over eight months before finally leaking (I don't recall ever seeing an actual official announcement) that the show was only picked up for four more measly episodes, not even a full season, and then unceremoniously canceling it once the strike happened and daring to blame the strikers for it as a convenient excuse when it was abundantly clear they never wanted to renew it in the first place.
I'm still salty over "American Vandal" and "GLOW", especially in the case of the latter, which was directly because of the pandemic. It's a shame that we'll never find out what would have happened to our favourite Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.
Netflix is just as bad if not worse than Fox was in the 90’s. I’m pretty sure everyone expected The Acolyte to be canceled including the people who liked it.
When ABC dropped Batman it would have been picked up by another network if the sets hadn't been demolished. The very short lived Pan Am ends with Christina Ricci's flight attendant character becoming a successful jewel smuggler. The season one finale of Joan of Arcadia has her becoming an atheist, which would have been an amazing series ending. But season two ended with episodes setting up a series reboot... that never happened. Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda season one ends with almost all the characters about to die and the ship about to be destroyed - which would have been a terrific series finale and spared us the ways Kevin Sorbo deconstructed the show over the next few seasons.
Batman's cancellation wasn't that surprising. Ratings dropped and ABC reduced the number of episodes from twice a week to once a week with single episode stories rather than two-parters. NBC was interested in picking the show up, but opted not to when they learned the sets were destroyed.
Blue Mountain State It's Currently Getting a Revival as we speak but the shows cancellation was like a deathblow In 2011 because Spike TV lost It's UFC deal and decided to kill BMS on the spot until the 2016 finale film Blue Mountain State Rise Of Thadland but that movie had worse reception the original series low key
The Acolyte did not destroy Star Wars. The franchise was dying before The Acolyte. Unless you mean the final nail for you? Okay, I accept that. For me, it was the Obi Wan show, although I was starting to check out after The Book of Boba Fett.
You may want to reconsider saying that "Nobody" expected these cancelations when you have #2 on the list. And before that one guy lists all the other really bad Disney shows that weren't canceled, that would be a good list of shows EVERYONE thought would be canceled, but weren't...
To be fair in regards to TNG, they were starting to run out of ideas, so it’s probably for the best that it ended with season 7. As for the Acolyte, I thought the show was just okay, and could take or leave it getting renewed or cancelled. I’m sure they’ll wrap up any plot threads in future Star Wars projects.
Terra Nova was a horrible show: The hype was set way too high, and heavily promoted, the reviews weren't spectacular, with even the positive ones highlighting the production values over anything else. When the hype is so high and the results are mediocre, it can be hard to burn off that initial disappointment, combined with the general expense of maintaining the sets, which had to be built from scratch, the network needed the show to be an astronomical success to justify the expense. The premise of Terra Nova was ultimately an excuse to have humans and dinosaurs in the same show, lol. This very hook is what made the premise a bad fit for network TV. Audiences naturally wanted a lot of dinosaurs, but even with the budget as high as it was, the best the show could offer was some brief cameos. Of the death by a thousand cuts Terra Nova suffered a character problem was one of its deepest; none of the family were compelling leads, they are just a bad clone of the 'Lost in Space' family. As a side effect of Terra Nova going straight to series, the middle stretch of the season, episodes three to eight, are all filler. Even without behind-the-scenes knowledge, the episodes feel like the writers were struggling to get a handle on the show and characters, much less the audience, the pacing picked up around episode 9, "Vs," but by then it was too late. Unfortunately, Terra Nova also aired on FOX, a network infamous for its cancellations. Fox had previously killed critical darlings like Arrested Development, Futurama and *Firefly* 😭😭😭. So, it should be no surprise that they pulled the plug on a mediocre show. In the end, that's all Terra Nova was, or got to be.
Netflix killing off a series because they deemed the time between a next season too long is the most Chinese riddle thing I have ever heard. Every single season of any Netflix series is 2 years apart . So not only are they already stretching 2 hour movies into a 10 episode season and then taking 2 years to produce them but also have the balls to cancel the entire show because they are stuffing around to make it
I concur with Maximus.. where did you guys get the idea that nobody saw the Acolyte being cancelled? Are you guys in a bubble? Just watch your brethren on UA-cam.. no one liked it.

What is with the wrestling dramas ? Heels also got cancelled at a stupid & abrupt moment, when the plot clearly had some interesting things just around the corner. I wish studios would take the plots of their shows more into consideration, because shows do not stop earning or being viewed when a show is over. Be it streaming or syndication, shows keep an audience after their run ends, moreso if you make sure the show ends at a point with makes sense. Properly invest in finishing what you start; be true to the story and it will pay dividends later,.

Sadly none of the Acolyte reviews were in bad faith. I really tried to enjoy it but, they went out of their way to ruin what it could have been. Killing off promising characters and going really no where in the end with the remaining characters sucked the life out of it.
The Acolyte? Seriously? A show literally called the "gayest Star Wars ever" about a colony of lesbian space witches who somehow created The Force or some nonsense like that? I think most people were surprised it made it to the end of the season.
While I totally agree with everything you said, given the current climate of pop culture and the clown world we live in I must admit that I was surprised to hear it was getting cancelled. I was hoping it would get cancelled, very much so, but I was surprised they canned something that was so "stunning and brave" lmao.
It makes perfect sense that it's on the list. *Loki* Season 1 was awful, yet instead of canceling it, people claim Season 2 is much better. *She-Hulk* was terrible too, but there’s no word of it being canceled. *The Mandalorian* was overrated in Season 1, and Seasons 2 and 3 were complete disasters, yet it’s still not on the chopping block. *The Book of Boba Fett* was an embarrassment, but where’s the cancellation notice? And *Ahsoka*-wow, that was painful to sit through, yet Season 2 is already set to start filming. I could go on, but you get the point. Disney keeps renewing these terrible shows over and over, which makes it all the more shocking that they decided not to renew a *Star Wars* show this time around.
@@jamesmswenko8292 I would argue that The Acolyte was "sacrificed" to those who despise anything with anyone other than a cis white male.
I miss Rome. Sadly, the viewership did not match the expense. I am glad I have the Blu rays.
WTF #2?!?! Are you serious, the Acolyte? A bomb from minute one through conception by violating the Star Wars lore and villainize every TRUE fan who spoke out against this abomination

Can do a whole list of Netflix shows that got canceled for dumb reasons even when they were fairly or very popular
Archive 81 should have been included here, it had an amazing first season and with the rest of the story they could have gone really well in the sci-fi genre with the likes of stranger things
Crazy Cliffhanger in that one
Netflix cancelling Mindhunter was jawdroppingly painful. One of the best things Netflix has ever produced. My Name is Earl was one that should've been on this list, as well as Santa Clarita Diet.
The dark Crystal age of resistance was really sad, they really went all in for that first season and the story was there as well as the fact that it would have been cheaper to produce the 2nd season with everything already built
never knew there was a Dark Crystal series.
How about Castle?
The producers told everyone invovled that it would get another season, but then it was literally cancelled a week before the season finale, so they had to scramble and tack onto an extra ending to it so it didn't end on a cliffhanger.
Didn't surprise me. They split up the leads with a lame excuse and ratings went down. Stana was not going to be kept even if it was renewed.
Of all the Netflix shows they canceled, my vote goes to 1899 as one they should've continued.
I still hold hope about Mindhunter season 3. The reason being that since it could be about Denis Rader's arrest, it could be years without being filmed and it would not matter as the cast would be older anyway.
Mindhunter didn't get cancelled, Fincher just stopped working on it 😢
Mind hunters was really good.
Also, Hannibal!
Must have been someone he ate...
ze7en i was wondering if anyone would mention Hannibal👊
Santa Clarita Diet should be on this list.
Yes, great call! The show was so entertaining, and Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were so charming together!
There are more tv shows than people can watch
Yeah... Recently, the first two seasons of “The Legend of Vox Machina” were only up on Amazon Prime for a week before they released Season Three, and then the first two seasons disappeared. Never enough time.
I dunno, man. There are a lot of people in the world.
Are you sure the Acolyte is on the right list?
Mindhunter, still sick it got cancelled.
The Acolyte should've been on this list as a bonus as EVERYONE expected that dross to get cancelled
Where's 1899?!
Absolutely NOBODY thought The Acolyte was going to be renewed.
And it was the actors that attacked fans, before, during and after the show ended.
Just accept the show was terrible garbage, with an audience that started small and fell off a cliff.
@@jamesmswenko8292 She-Hulk WAS canceled.
@@ericcousino2068 It didn't start off strong AT ALL.
It started extremely low and fell to non-existent rapidly.
The Acolyte was simply terrible. It was never going to be salvageable even if it had gotten a second season.
FOREVER (2014) needed atleast 2 more seasons
Lovecraft Country.
And Watchmen
TNG... Seven seasons with twenty-eight episodes per... let It go.
Canceling shows people want to see and giving shows no one want multiple season before the first episode even premiered.
Are tv and streaming services managed by fricking monkeys?
Hearing about Arcane getting canceled after season 2 hurts
I love Hank Hill. He'd probably go absolutely bonkers if he ever had to start worrying about "pronoun preferences," I tell you what. 🤦♂
I think most people thought The Acolyte would be cancelled.
I was just about to say this. The Acolyte was garbage as a regular ol' TV show, nevermind as a Star Wars show.
@Maria_Erias tbf Disney tends to greenlit shows that piss off people and they poured an insane amount of money into the acolyte that I think canceling it early was just as expensive
I disagree it shows a star wars in different apesect. It funny that Marvel did it with infinity wars by looking at the Thanos. It was called genius, but when they do it, Star Wars it bad writing.
@@MrHelicx That's because the Acolyte was just a horribly-written show, whereas Infinity War had not only been something that Marvel had been building up towards for years, but also had some pretty great writing.
@@Maria_Erias lmfao my point it just went over you head smh
I don’t know how you could leave out Firefly.
I would add Lockwood and co and the dead boys detective they both were popular and has very good reviews and I agree with the dark crystal.
How about making a list of shitty TV l shows that didn't get cancelled that inexplicably should have been cancelled.
Like shows so bad that didn't get viewers or critical accomplishments yet still got renewed.
Velma just today got cancelled but how it got a 2nd season is beyond me.
Sometimes it's just the right person who likes the show, like a high executive's wife.
As for Yellowstone, I just saw the commercial fir the return of the show
How about Caprica?
Yellowstone isn’t cancelled anymore it has now been renewed for season 6
1899 and Raised By Wolves were missing from the list
I'm still mad about The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance getting cancelled. It was soooo good!
What cultures content seems to be dropping in quality a lot of these were in fact expected 😅
When you drop like 3 videos per day, it's expected
@@millardlovejoy4951 maybe they are using ai to generate the script nowadays
Cancelling Mindhunter reminds me of the fate of Between and The SocIety. Renewed and set to film just before the pandemic. To my knowledge, neither have actually been canceled, but at this point, I have given up hope.
The fact that Firefly and Ash vs Evil Dead weren’t on here, Smh
We know exactly why Firefly is not on the list, they did everything wrong when they released that show, did you know they aired the episodes out of order? Yeah, it doesn't get dumber than that.
@@jamesmswenko8292 yeah, I know, they never gave it a chance, smh luckily I got to watch in its order proper order. At least we got the movie to kind of finish the arc
@@DjinnFrosty The movie butchered the show instead of "finishing the arc".
@@DoloresLehmann It’s the best we are going to get, unless they do a remake (doubtful). I’m not happy with finality of it, but at least it showed a more polished, cohesive show/story that ended, and gave us more of the world.
@@DjinnFrosty Would have been better not to have anything than THIS. It is not cohesive at all, doesn't fit the original show and provided an unsatisfactory end to basically a different story.
"Including the people who liked it." You mean all five of them?
I was really looking forward to the Peripheral.
What about The Spanish Inquisition?!? 😆
NOBODY expects The Spanish Inquisition!
Still upset about Age of Resistance being cancelled. Such a great show.
That is hilarious that you think The Acolyte was a good show. It destroyed Star Wars!
The Acolyte did not destroy Star Wars. The franchise was dying before The Acolyte. Unless you mean the final nail for you? Okay, I accept that. For me, it was the Obi Wan show, although I was starting to check out after The Book of Boba Fett.
Cancelling KAOS was a bad move on Netflix's part!
Not renewed. It’s different. List does not include the OA
I am mad about Kaos and The Brothers Sun.
Glow, Stranger Things how have people been waiting now? 6 years
Travelers
This... Exactly this. Travelers should have never been cancelled and I'm still holding onto hope for a revival.
MINDHUNTER WAS LIFE....like literally wtf.
Terra Nova
Peripheral was surprisingly good. Small cast, good visual effects and simple production but actors were great and the plot was interesting. Its a real shame. One of the best syfys of this decade
I’m sad that Dark Crystal Age of Resistance was cancelled 😭
Sense8, Shadow & Bone and now The Dead Boys Detective agency are just three of the shows that Netflix killed off way too soon!
Find me someone, anyone, truly shocked that The Acolyte was canceled.
I heard King of the Hill was canceled to make way for Bob's Burger and not the Cleveland show.
I refuse to start any series without multiple seasons as I’ve gotten into shows just for them to end with cliffhangers in one season
Some are worth it, *Firefly* for an example.
@@jamesmswenko8292 that’s good to know!! I really got into a Hilary Swank show about space and then season 2 never came, I will have to check Firefly out knowing ahead of time it ends, thanks!

Heels
That 90s show
Splitting up together
Single Parents
Gentefied
The Loop
Legit
Married
The Great Indoors
The Society, Archive 81 and the one that was pure criminal to cancel. Raised by Wolves.
I totally agree about Mindhunter. It left the BTK killer story line hanging and production costs? Two guys talking to other guys cost that much money? Such a good show gone for no good reason!
Well, I am mainly here to say/ask
WHY ARE THEY CANCELLING BOSCH: LEGACY ?! Foolish executives do not know a good thing.
Mindhunter should be made into a series of movies. Who doesn't want to see BTK trial, Bundy's interview that helped capture the green river killer and more big ed eating egg salad sandwiches 😂
I don't blame Whedon for Angel though. It sucks living on your savings waiting for your supposed employers if they will retain or cancel you. People need to work to eat.
glow and mindhunter deserved to keep going but the acolyte being canceled is not a surprised to anyone who saw the viewership numbers for the second half of the season and the cost of production
The Acolyte was terrible
Acolyte was garbage that should have never been created
What about that 90 show on Netflix.
It wasn't very good. It was lucky it got a second season
I loved GLOW, even though the third season was really weak in many parts. I was hoping for a fourth and final season to get out of the Vegas show rut and really go out with a bang. The COVID restrictions were really ridiculous already, and then you throw in the cancelation of GLOW due to it...
