- Actor and Car geek Ingo Rademacher reviews the 2021 Sienna Hybrid Platinum AWD. A detailed talk about Toyota safety sense 2.5, Lane tracing assist and MPG. Auto pilot?.... Pretty close. Hacked with a little weight on the steering wheel ;-)
The Highlanders lane tracing, lane centering is almost as good as an Auto pilot. Full range radar cruise is very smooth. Best MPG 34 mpg HWY. Worst in MPG in town 22mpg. 300 mile Road trip with 9000 ft climb and loaded with a huge headwind was 24 MPG at about 75-77 mph. same trip opposite direction will update Tomorrow. Town average 30-32 mpg
Another question of Highlander vs sienna is this:
- unless you need a panoramic roof, adaptive headlights, or a 12.3 inch touchscreen, the sienna is a better bet imo.
Sienna has much more space and much more cheaper, the sienna also gets better MPG and is slightly faster than highlander and has a lower centre of gravity. Caranddriver Sienna 1/4 mile: 15.8 seconds at 88 mph. Caranddriver Highlander hybrid 1/4 mile: 16.0 seconds at 87 mph, Highlander does 0-100 of 21.9 seconds while sienna does 0-100 in 12.0 seconds. Sienna is much more aerodynamic allowing for better MPG. I think we need to drop the minivan stigma and get rid of 3rd row crossovers, they aren’t real SUVs they are just jacked up Hatchbacks and station wagons.
Anyone can call it whatever they want; an SUV or Station Wagon, but the fact is - they are less than 1/2 difference in height despite the Sienna appearing taller. So the Minivan is not noticeably a taller vehicle than then the so-called Wagon. And is it is still the highest selling mid-sized SUV for a reason, regardless of opinions. The Sienna is great but with a lower road clearance than the Highlander, especially with so much garbage on the roads and freeways, that's a negative that is important to many drivers. And if living or driving in snowy mountains, the Sienna does surprisingly well but Highlander is the better choice for those conditions overall. And 1 mile MPG difference is quite negligeable. I prefer both the higher seating and greater headroom of the Highlander. I'm tall and my hair touched the top of the Sienna ceiling recently when I was looking at, but not in the Highlander which I test drove just yesterday - I had plenty of room above me. I hated with a passion the overbearing middle console bridge in the Sienna that felt claustrophobic - but for some, the console can hold a lot of items like a bag of decent size. I looked closely at both for quite some time and made what I thought was initially a hard choice, much easier for me and chose the 2023 Highlander based on the above factors and other comparisons. It's all about preference for each person.
Awesome review thankyou and your son was such a big help . I have had both vehicles in the past and the Sienna much more room than the Highlander but I loved them both
Great candid commentary on both the Highlander and Sienna, driving automation, and demo of the AWD system. I think the Sienna vs. Highlander is a great pragmatic comparison for many shoppers. I'm going the Sienna Platinum AWD route next week. Cheers!
Congrats. great choice. and thanks for the comment.
Im sacared for the oil pan. I had a friend damage his vehicle by a speed bump cuz he took it too fast.
We just bought the 2021 Sienna Hybrid Limited and the 2021 Venza Hybrid Limited and love them. They ride so smoothly and we get about 35 miles to the gallon.
How much was sienna limited ?
i like INGO as an actor, but this indepth review , is something way better than any Car Manufacturer would do
haha. Thanks but im still learning to do it better and faster :) appreciate it though.
I appreciate your review!
Toyota used the eCVT, it's a planetary transmission, it not the rubber band like the traditional CVT. Toyota should really drop the eCVT name and just call it the planetary, sound cooler too. People when they hear CVT, just really picture this rubber band transmission. May be you can talk to them about that. Nice video and comparison between the Sienna and the Highlander. We're getting the Sienna XSE AWD in couple months.
thanks for the details. see if they will through in some blacked out 20's from the 2WD for your XSE AWD :-)
Great video! Can you review a Lincoln MKC 4 cyl?
Eventually maybe. I have a list of Larger SUV's with Diesels that im more interested in first
Great review!
Decided to get the Highlander. Would of preferred the Sienna, but the seats in the Sienna did not agree with us. Ironically, the 2 Nd row seats in the Sienna were much more comfortable.
Sienna second row seats should be removable as in previous model years.
Pretty good video! I live in Europe where Toyota only sells the Highlander and not the Sienna. Furthermore, only the Highlander hybrid is available to us - not only your son, but you guys all are fairly spoiled in the US...:-)
It's a huge bummer you don't get the Sienna. it's amazing and would be great in Europe. but the Highlander "fits" better it's also great.
@@ihousehawaii That is complete bummer. I need a car for 2+2 (maybe more in the future) + big dog and all I can get in Europe is SUV or boxy van which lacks comfort and is terrible as a daily car. No minivans at all. I even considered private import of Sienna, but the amount of taxes and other costs is crazy - it would reach over 85 000 USD for higher tiers. Although it is not ideal choice for family, Highlander is one of very few options on the market - it is one of the biggest SUVs available in Europe and doesn't break the bank as competitors (most of big SUVs are of premium brands)
It’s funny even though my kids know that minivan is more practical, they still won’t let me get it. They rather have a 3 row suv with decent 3rd row space. Unfortunately the space in Highlander is non existent
Hubby has hybrid it’s great car
nice video ! 👍
can someone please share their experience with how the xle hybrid highlander does in snow? thank you
I Like the Sienna, but we want to look cool in an SUV so we bought the Highlander hybrid. LOL
