Rattle on startup and under acceleration is usually the VTC solenoid caused by low oil. 2010-2011 love to drink oil. My wives will be 2 quarts low and the oil light won't come on. Just have to be careful and top off every 1000-2000 miles. Sadly we were out of the 8 year 125k extended warranty for this issue.
Assuming you haven't scored the cylinder walls due to those stuck rings, A few non invasive things to try: Run a tank of Berrymans High Mileage Fuel System Cleanout. They make a concentrate that might help. Also, try a short oil change (3000 miles) using a quart of HPL Engine Cleaner Oil. It's not anything drastic like those dangerous engine flushes. Grab a quart of whatever 0w-20 and add 4 quarts of oil plus the one quart of HPL Engine Cleaner 30w. Run that for 3k. Drain and change filter. It's a gentle cleaner that can help reduce deposits which might be causing those things to stick. You don't run it a full 5-7000 miles because it does get a lot of gunk out of the engine that might clog filter. There's a fine balance in cleaning because you don't want it happening too fast or those particles can clog small passages. After you run that, try a Refill using 0w-20 and the honda OEM filters. The honda filters favor flow over filtration. I've dealt with this on a vehicle with a similar engine as these CRV engines and it helped reduce oil consumption from a quart every 1000 miles to a quart every 1500 miles. That's right at the limit of "acceptable" oil use per toyota or honda, which is generally a quart burned every 1200 miles.
@@JulietHotelFoxtrot I wish you told me this a few months ago. Nearly burned up the front catalytic converter from LiquidMoly Engine Flush. Thankfully the cel is off now, but it did ruin both O2 sensors. Cheaper than a Catalytic converter but lesson learned on engine flushes. It did dramatically lower the oil loss.
@@jfGarage4k are you sure this is a 2012? My 2012 looks nothing like that crv interior as well as the headlight assembly is completely different. Looks like 07-11.... great video though and thank you!
