@@mattkessler-revelo I got my first compass when i was 12 or 13 from my brother a forester by trade. At 16 i joined CAN CADET CORP my most detailed training, then in mid 20s, maritime navigation. I still have that first Silva compass its 50 years old now.
Thanks for this video it is nice see a non ultra lightweight type of gear suggestions (not that ultra lightweight is necessarily bad). I have 1 pair of the darntough sock and like them at lot I have found that i really like alpaca wool socks i have them from both hollow and willowace so far they have been great. for rain gear in stuck between the US GI poncho and the frogg toggs rain suit for now. i will have to put a sun hoodie on my list of stuff to get. Im still undecided on foot wear right now i have a good pair of merrel shoes that I got 2nd hand that work well but I also like boots for more ankle protection. my gear is a wide mix of stuff from mil surplus to homemade to commercial off the shelf. My main tent is a Northface VE24 that was given to me from my late father that he bought while in the Navy in Roda Spain! sorry if this is rambling and half composed.
Darn Tough socks are the most dependable socks I own. Amazing. Thanks for the recommendation of Alpaca wool socks. I’d like to check those out. I really like the water shoes from Solomon and Astral. I beat mine up pretty good on trips - so they only last a few years. Thank you for sharing your story about your tent. That’s a treasure! Very cool. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much for watching. I really appreciate your encouragement. I plan to make more videos (and continue to include Warbonnet Hammocks) - and hope they will be helpful.
Thanks for the rundown on clothing and gear. Talk with you soon Matt!
You bet! Looking forward to our canoe adventure! See you soon!
Great video! So helpful! 🔥
Thank you! Glad it was helpful.
Thanks Matt! I am excited to go to the boundary waters soon and this is really helpful!!
Yessir! Glad it was helpful. It’s going to be an great adventure. So glad you’re coming. One month away!
I guess I'm old school be it in a canoe, on a mountain range, 4hr trip or month long adventure. I always take a map and compass, NO BATTERIES required
Old school and smart! Thank you for sharing this. Too few have these skills. How did you learn orienteering?
