Creating fusions for every combination of Pokemon is already a huge undertaking, but then deciding to create unique hybrid abilities with their own original special effects for each of those combinations? I think that's what really sets this meta apart, it's clear there's a lot of effort and love being poured into this
Fusion Evolution has had quite a storied history, all things considered. It differs from a lot of other Pokemon fusion content by combining abilities of the component fused Pokemon in unique ways, and it's been like that since its inception. I myself first became aware of FE's initial incarnation back in Gen 7, where it had a huge amount of fusions, but ultimately suffered from bloat and powercreep, much of which was due to highly complicated and overpowered ability combos. For reference, one of the most overpowered fusions in old FE was a Ralts/Kirlia fusion, which had an ability made of Trace + Telepathy that granted it all the other abilities of the rest of its team. This meant you could stack a whole team behind it with overpowered abilities and shred the meta with the innate boosts you got from that. There was also a Delcatty/Dialga fusion which affected the opponent's Pokemon with Normalize, and it was a Steel type to boot, meaning it resisted nearly every move in the game while its ability was active. Both of these Pokemon were banned, though this metagame basically ended as an arms race to see who could create the most broken complex ability; one of FE's long running memes is the submission of a supremely esoteric ability combination between Zygarde's Power Construct and Wishiwashi's Schooling that had edge cases for how its stats would be affected in each state of its being. Modern FE metagames typically contain this sort of complexity by keeping the Pokemon total down and prohibiting overly complicated ability effects. Sometimes abilities are kept to their components combined, but some of the most fun fusions combine abilities in unique ways, like with many of the fusions showcased in this video. Other FE variants include FE VGC, which has its own carefully cultivated set of fusions balanced around a VGC context, as well as the surprisingly fun FE Dondozo, which was designed as an April Fools Day metagame centered around Tatsugiri's Commander ability having Dondozo as an effect, but ended up being rather fun. Overall, if this metagame seems interesting to anyone, feel free to check it out! It was very fun to see it showcased in a video like this. (Major shoutouts to AquaticPanic for the spritework by the way, they do so much of it for basically every FE and really is a part of its incredible visual appeal)
The abilities are case by case, but must pull from one of each of the two base Pokemon's abilities that they can actually get. So, when someone is submitting a fusion, they would look at the abilities of the Pokemon they're combining, figure out what abilities they want to use, and then go about combining their effects in some way. It can range from a simple "both effects" ability to a looser more unique hybrid effect. Take, for example, Bellikiss, as seen in this video, with Fortunomorphosis. It takes Electromorphosis's main effect, of gaining something on hit, and it pulls the critical hit factor from Super Luck, and the effective result is "gain a critical hit upon being hit yourself", notably being implemented as Laser Focus. It's this degree of customization that makes Fusion Evolution stand out from other fusion based games, in my eyes at least; while Infinite Fusion manages to attain a massive volume of fusions (which is also thoroughly impressive by the way, don't get me wrong), FE makes its fusions feel properly combined through allowing for abilities to be fluidly designed in this way.
I believe our beloved Bellikiss's Fortunomorphosis is the combination of Electromorphosis and Super Luck, not Serene Grace It's insane how an innocent little guy like him, can commit such a war crime and become a top tier mon in the meta
I've watched a fair amount of competitive Pokémon content over the years, and I've never seen anyone mention these unusual formats. Please cover more of them.
The concept has no right to work this well, but the execution quality is so damn high both in art and mechanical design. I've been following the project for a while and it blows me away how many fusions they've managed to create while still coming up with creative ideas that run the gamut from gloriously cursed, to adorable, to stone cold badass.
Bellikiss’ ability is actually a combination of Electromorphosis and Super Luck, as it increases crit chance rather than having anything to do with secondary effects
Shout outs to Scream Cormorant Scream Tail + Cramorant which just so happens to be able to activate Protosynthesis by activating Gulp Missile and viceversa. It sounds _horrible._
@misters6749 Zap Cannon only has 50 Accuracy. Yes, even in Rain. Hail/Snow bypasses the accuracy check on Blizzard. Sun lowers the accuracy of Thunder and Hurricane to 50.

So before anyone thinks the two Pokemon fused into one new mon concept is strange, I would like to remind old Pokemon fans from the late 1990s that the concept was explored in the Anime, which I consider official media. The one I remember vividly was Episode 20 of the 1997/1998 first animne (Kanto Season), where a fusion of Venusaur and Blastoise was featured (Granted, it was a ghostly projection / illusion created by the episode's Ghastly, but the idea still stands.

How are the abilities determined? Are they just invented on a case-by-case basis or is there some sort of system?
