This is awesome info, as I set myself up for a challenge with something like this. Probably between a Level 2-3 for myself, since Wasteland Weekend is in October, and my BIL challenged me to build something instead of just doing bolt ons and engine swaps
This was so good. People don't talk about this shit enough. This might be the only video talking about these kinds of decisions that we all have to think through.
For me it's lvl 2-3. But a shortcut to 4, roll down the windows. Then just use a means to attach what appears armored window doors in place of the window.s My car? 68 Camaro, 454 Tripower with the side exhaust pipes. Ladder bar suspension on rear with maybe a truck rear axle. Louviers on rear windshield, and side fenders. Roofrack on top, and also bull bar on front with nos hood scoop and slat vents. Still concept through 1/25th scale kit bashing concept. Then go full scale from there. Name: Black Betty
In my state, a car does not need doors or glass. It does not need a hood or trunk lid. If you don't have a windshield, you will need some kind of eye protection. Anything legal for a motorcycle would be legal for a car without a windshield. Seat belts are required on 1972 and newer vehicles, though I think they are a good idea anyway. A roll cage would also be a good idea and would fit the look. You also have to have all the lights and a horn. But, these could be made removeable. If you have a vehicle with no doors or windows, you have to protect the electrics somehow. I think a truck would be a better vehicle to start with, as you have so many more options, since the bed, cab, and front end are all removeable separately and you still have a functional frame brakes, suspension, and powertrain. I have yet to build a 4 wheel vehicle, but have built a couple of motorcycles that turned out great.
When I started to look into watching this video is really skeptical but once I realized that you're going through the same thing I've gone through and I noticed you were sitting in a different vehicle at a different level of commitment I said to myself out loud "Oh crap I need to watch this!!!!"💀
Okay Blackfinger I have a question. I have been a BIG Mad Max fan going all the way back to Road Warrior. My thing I wanted to do was build a Wasteland GT. Either Camaro, or Mustang, or even perhaps AMX Javelin. Basically what I was looking at was building car to the Rat Rod quality. Rust, grime, stank to it. But still have the performance in the build and be able to drive it every day and possibly take it off road. I did also want to still keep the rustic patina to it as well for the build. Basically to the Mad Max Road Warrior feel both exterior and interior wise, but still able to drive it on highways, interstate and so on. Thought about a level three build, but maybe find interior with a bit of seasoning to the look. Weathered, worn, that feel. Any feedback of those particular cars be great. And looking at 1972 to 1973 for years, and try to give it the classic Interceptor look just with a personal touch to it. To make it my own. Oh and considered the Mustang for the 429 Cobra Jet, the Camaro for the 454 engine and the Javelin well still researching that one but love the body, was also consider which has the best fastback look to them to want to put louveirs I think you call it the slotted vents on the back glass of sports cars.
Okay follow up, in talking with my brother here is how it's going to go. 1974 Ford Maverick Engine: Ford 300 Straight Six with a DT446 Turbo Charger. Large volume Oil Pump, and Comp Small Block Chevy Triplets. Transmission: 1969 3 speed Cruise O Matic from a 1969 Mustang. Other Tib Bits: Rear Axle from a a F-100 close to same year. Windscoop on hood, possible with a Grabber trim to it, maybe front end conversion for a GT Mustang on the car. Still Louviers for the back rear window and back sides. Roof rack with roof lights and gear tied down. Roof spoiler like the Interceptor, back spoiler as well. Bull guard on the front, interior worn down a bit with CB/HAM Radio set in the middle of the car in a housing system with a Radio Scanner as well. Antennas on roof bent and tied down with roof rack. Paint job faded, patinaed, roughed up...Midnight black. Basically flat black two tone with a dark purple as well. Name...Mad Maverick aka Midnight Maverick. Oh and might put wench cable or reel on the front as well. Still a level 3 build but within budget as well.
IQCS2020?... Great well organized video. My current Sd.kfz.222 replica build is very much at a stage were it would fit right in as a wasteland vehicle. And for my next build I will be going with a purpose build Road Warrior vehicle. Hopefully this community continues to grow.

Very good thoughts. Gives me something to think about. Definitely stage 4 for me.

I believe the same standards apply to art cars .. and wasteland cars are unique pieces of art ..
Glad I stumbled on your channel big fan of your work

After watching this video I really want to build my own wasteland car! Do you know of any events similar to Wasteland Weekend in western Canada?
drive down to wasteland there are whole convoys of people along the coast.
I'm on my way man thx for the inspiration
I have a '99 EXPEDITION I'M WORKING ON!😎
I agree about design: have a plan, but leave room to let it evolve. When you have no plan, it shows, and you end up with a third-rate project.

Any wasteland weekend versions on the East coast? Too far for me to get my truck out there
So, my plan is going to be mostly a level 3. I want it to be street legal, so I can bring it to shows.
I'm building a 71 skylark sedan level 3
Definitely would recommend a old crown Vic
5:48 in, Yep I'm going to wasteland my messed up 89 ford bronco ii
Is a 2015 Dodge Challenger a good car to make a wasteland car?
Oh shit I didn't realize you built the Mudercedes, I saw it at Nukelanta last year.
But why ruin a good car? Just find or use junkyard stuff weld and bolt stuff together connect all the pluming and electrical systems and make it run
My car's slowly turning itself into a wasteland vehicle.
you dont need glass or doors or hood just working lights in mississippi
I need a wastelands car I live in Paterson nj..
Just cut to the chase and get a Toyota Hilux.
