If anyone is interested in modern China, 'Wild Swans' by Jung Chang is an absolute must. It's written perspective of first her grandmother, then mother, and herself so it's an easy read but it tells absurd and horror that seems to be beyond imagination, and it shows exactly how a political ideology can be turned into a religion.
she's also a propagandist and opportunist for western powers. she hasn't lived in MODERN China as she left in the 70s. if you want a true level headed idea of modern china you should read sources from both sides of the aisle.
@@TaylorCrane1312 The difference is, that neoliberalism has nowhere been implemented in full, and imho is mostly used as smoke and mirrors, while Maoist China was a simple and fanatical cult of personality, and the personalisty just happened to implement very crudely understood communism. Besides I don't recall any liberals praying to portraits and writing praises using blood instead of ink.

Have you actually watched the whole story, they talk about education and schools. Despite all their disadvantages, the communists always tried to develop education and build schools, because schools were centers for the ideological education of new generations.
