. .✨ yup, March ‘56, EP appeared on 6 consecutive Saturday’s on the Dorsey Brothers (Saturday) variety hour . . The brothers heckled EP during rehearsals with cutting remarks on his hair and clothes but EP motored on even tho he knew he was being used by the brothers for ratings against competing variety shows . . . .✨ Quincy Jones was a young member of Dorsey’s orchestra then, feeling begrudged early on over EP’s sudden popularity and how his own career was being negatively affected by rock & roll as the Dorsey’s were playing to an audience based in a bygone music era . .
BTW, listening to a mother and daughter talk, share, show such deep respect and admiration was a JOY to see. Sadly my mother a HUGE Elvis fan died in 2010. Elvis was born on her birthday. My father died on January 8th - BOTH her and Elvis's birthdays. Coincidence? I think not.
The "Jungle Room" name came after Elvis and his father Vernon visited a furniture store where the most hideous furniture was being sold. Vernon went on, and on about it. Elvis, the ever jokester, thought it would be funny to buy ALL of it and send it to Graceland where his father would be forced to look at it til the day he died. This is according to his official biographer Peter Guralnick.
Telstar in 1962 was the first satellite broadcast signal across the Atlantic. It inspired a hit song by the Tornadoes. Elvis did the first broadcast ever to be beamed around the world. Some say it is just that it was a concert by a single performer to be broadcast by satellite around the world but this is not true. The Telestar in '62 was just a signal, not a visual program with sound.
Ed Sullivan show didn't want Elvis on at first! Due to the negative feedback from parents, preachers, etc. But the ratings went crazy when Elvis went on the Steve Allen show.... following his appearance on the Milton Berle show. So...like it or not...they had Elvis appear on Ed Sullivan...with the proviso that Elvis Only be shown from the waist up! Lol.
Milton Berle show. Dorsey Bros. before that. Berle was the premiere show before Ed Sullivan. Steve Allen had him sing Hound Dog to an actual Hound Dog.
It starts in the 15th because with how many people come to it, it goes all night long. We got in line right at the start and it took us about 2 hours. There was still a big line around 12am when we were walking down from the meditation garden. I have a video on it that will be out in a couple days!
@@sherry6116 the 16th was the day he passed and they hold it on the 15th because there are so many people it goes into the early hours of the morning on the 16th
. . ✨ Both Sinatra and Bing Crosby made statements to the press very early on in the mid ‘50’s that EP’s body movements were “vulgar”. .they said this because they were on competing record labels to EP, but they also said these things because their own popularities were weakening as being “love crooners’ from a bygone era and, they were threatened by the influence of Rock & Roll on their buying public➖ Sullivan could’ve been influenced by these statements. . . . ✨ EP first appeared on tv on two separate variety shows, Milton Berle’s show & Steve Allen’s show . . Ed Sullivan stated emphatically he’d never have EP appear on his show, but after the Steve Allen performance in July ‘56 and how Allen’s ratings went through the roof (Allen was a hard competitor for Sullivan), Sullivan did concede and contract EP to appear in Oct. ‘56 (possibly one performance in Sept. ‘56 too), the Colonel raised EP’s pay rate to $50k for a single performance and it was the most Sullivan had ever paid for an entertainer’s appearance . . The Colonel did seek revenge as a backlash to Sullivan’s statement of: “never having EP on the show” . . Sullivan did after EP’s rendition of “Peace In The Valley” say live on camera that “EP was a very fine young man” and I do believe that the Colonel made sure he’d say this on camera as part of the contract arrangement and for having slurred EP’s reputation earlier that same year . . The Colonel could’ve been a mooch regarding EP’s finances but he was a genius in crafting contracts, so much so that Sinatra approached him wanting him to become his manager as well but the Colonel responded by telling Sinatra: “ I only manage EP, no one else”
Chimpanzee Scatter it was his name I have one Elvis magazine and there was a picture of it. That chimpanzee drunk beer and massing arround with the girls
His last public performance was in Indianapolis, Indiana, on 26 June 1977.

My mom didn’t know if it was the Dorsey show or Ed show. The internet said Ed but we all know how reliable that is lol
