If you didn’t live during the 50’s-60’s, then you cannot comprehend the differences in culture at that time. And Europe was even more so. Her family wasn’t European but they did live in Europe at that time. I’m sure that the ways of the world had an affect on their decision making. Again, totally different era. I was a good student…good girl and took off with a rock god at age 15. My parents did everything possible to keep me home. I snuck around and did it anyway. It was the 70’s. The cultural shift began in the 80’s. There was no WOKE before that

    Wow!! 80s sensitivity "What did you think of his last year's, the fat, bloated Elvis?" Class act Barbara Walters. I watched my own good looking son, turn into a person who drank, used pills and other drugs, to a swollen, very ill person by 32. He didn't know he had the beginning of liver failure and his continued use made me look more like his sister than mother. We had a Drs appointment the day after he died, at 33. Sometimes the excess weight is fluid retention and compulsive eating between binges. My boy by autopsy showed all the diagnosis post mortem of what alcohol and drugs can do. Breaks my heart that Elvis was made fun of by tabloids and even years later. I'm glad the movie came out and showed how he became dependent on drugs and what it does to someone. Even the excessive sweat my son had. If given 24 hours, maybe I'd still have him. I mourn Lisa Marie because as a mother, you never wrap your mind around your child leaving the Earth before you. May they all rest in peace 🕊️💛

    Do you notice how Barbara Walters focused RELENTLESSLY on the bad. Even when she asked: ‘Did he treat you well?” and Priscilla lit up and said: “Yes”, she couldn’t have that for too long ! So she in a heartbeat changed to “Did he treat you bad?”. Barbara also tried to drag down the womanly and sexuality of Dolly Parton when she interviewed her. She started asking Dolly: “Why do feel the need to dress like that?” and hints like that. Jealously comes to mind now. (I’m a sixty year old woman). Dolly and Priscilla both held their ground quietly yet staunchly. Priscilla didn’t let Barbara go where she would have if she had had the chance - that us, to drag Elvis into the dirt. And Dolly didn’t allow herself to be dragged where Barbara would have like to if she could- which is, into being a tart a lower woman. Well done ladies

      So true mate. There was another thing I was going to pop into my comment, but didn’t. But seeing as you’ve replied, I’ll add it: Barbara asked Priscilla: “What do you think Elvis saw in a fourteen year old girl?” (referring to Priscilla at 14 of course, and insulting her in the process - classic !)). And I thought to myself: “Did you SEE that fourteen year old ??!! She was a doll !” Who couldn’t see what Elvis saw in her. She was as captivating as he was. Definitely jealousy. Interesting what you said - I’ve never seen other Barbara interviews,( those two were enough). It’s marvellous when you see someone classy interview Priscilla because she has some fascinating things to say about Elvis, both great and not so marvellous. The good interviewers don’t dominate and thus she gives so much, and it’s all not black and white, good or bad, but is complex, sweet and sad and she loved him despite it being able to live with him. And she admits a lot more, because she isn’t having to be in the defence. (like most people and relationships). Thanks for replying

    • @QueenBee-mk8xm
      @QueenBee-mk8xm Рік тому

      Yes, but the truth is that Priscilla has always been very smart about playing this fine line and it is a very fine line. She wants to keep his memory alive and make continue to make lots of money off his name and fame, while still being honest about her relationship with him, but while avoiding trashing him as it would make no sense financially to turn people off him and portray him as a paedophile (which he actually may have been) or making herself look trashy (she is anything but), as that would not help to sell books or to keeping bringing people who loved Elvis to Graceland.
      She says she did love him and still loves him and that the real him was the one she first met, but the thing is, the way he treated her even from the start, was not like a normal boyfriend and girlfriend and the way he kept himself and her secluded and like a recluse was not a normal way to live, especially for a young teenage girl far way from her family and anyone to supervise. Abuse is not love and never can be. Neither is manipulation or control. Elvis must have cared for her and his child with her as he did leave everything to his daughter and made sure that Priscilla was okay financially, but as for love, sadly, it just does not sound like anything healthy or that can be called love. Many of the things that she describes, in terms of how Elvis treated her, I think clearly fall into the category of abuse and even child abuse as she was still a child when all this started. When I listen to Priscilla speak, it sounds like she was just taken as a plaything and a puppet and it is no surprise that it took years for her to realize and understand that that is what she was to him.
      She says he was actually a father figure and a mentor, but no 14 year old needs some random man who is ten years older to come along and be their father figure or mentor. She already had a father and she was still at school. At that stage, your mentors are your parents, teachers, relatives etc. and not a depressive pop music star who is into little girls that he can control and play with. He only got away with it because he was Elvis. I can understand the parents´predicament, but they could have stopped it and said he could come back and visit her when she turned 16 and that if they still wanted to be together when she turned 18, they would allow that as she would be an adult and could make her own decisions about whether to move to the US etc etc, and in the meantime, she had to stay at school and with her parents and family and could correspond by mail.
      I think most parents would have done that, but again, the Elvis factor came into play. But still, I think many parents would have said no, even to Elvis. What is horrible, is that all this actually reminds me of someone who it is now known was indeed a paedophile who got away with it because he was well-known, though was not good-looing and could not sing like Elvis, but that person also surrounded themselves with underage girls while wearing a certain get-up that he was known for. That person is Jimmy Savile.

    What no one mentions is the fact that until the '70's there was no such thing as a "controlled substance". That means there were no limits or guidelines on any prescription. No one had to go back to a doctor for a refill because the prescription never expired nor were there limits on how often you could get refills. The word abuse had not been used. I don't know if it's ignorance of that fact or if it's intentional but no one ever brings that up.
