Try the Republic Commando novels by Karen Traviss. Not sure if it goes far enough but it certainly shows a clone's eye view of the war.

He was still very reckless though, which caused many unnecessary casualties. That said, Anakin's reckless behaviour pales in comparison with Ahsoka. On a personal level she treated clones well, but as a commander she was totally unconcerned about the lives of those under her command.

Droids are shown time and again to be sentient but are effectively slaves in SW without rights or thought given to them.

During Merson basically all Republic troops onworld were killed within the first day of fighting so vast and entrenched were the CIS armies. Even the first Battle of Kamino featured the clone sickness, a biologically engineered virus, that targeted clones and was spread throughout the air systems which little could be done to save those infected (it caused their skin to boil off in hives or something horrific).

Why clones died even whilst wearing armor?
Easy, Clones wore the armor because it stopped blaster fire from tearing them apart / leaving massive holes or burning them to dust...
So when the blaster fire hit instead of going right through the clones 99% of the time it impacted and broke the bones and even sometimes from impact the shockwave would liquify internals.
But it's faster to grab a clone with broken bones from the battlefield fix him up and send him back out then re-grow a new clone. This way you're able to keep the army population up rather than having to rely on new batches of clones and wasting them.

@Mythic It may not be as overt as some of the ties with the Empire and the Reich, but even if not intended at first really did become more like it. Obviously some changes occur because of how the Star Wars universe is and all, but things like the blockade of Naboo and attempted assassination of Padme do roughly approximate events leading up to the start of WW1, the GAR as I recall was smaller than the CIS army (Germany/Austria-Hungary vs Russia) and a smaller navy (Imperial German Navy vs Royal Navy). Many of the campaigns became bogged down and fairly static much like WW1 trench warfare that lasted for months on end. Catastrophic destruction and civilian casualties, laying waste to cities/towns/planets, development of attack aircraft and fighters (yes these existed before in their universe however the development seen in media of the Clone Wars resembles more development of WW1 planes as the war progressed), armoured and mobile warfare have some mirroring, and the GAR troop uniforms slowly evolve toward what we see the Empire's uniforms become for soldiers just like WW1 in to the Reich.
Overall the clone wars has quite a few similarities. How intentional or not can be debated.

Good video. No army is immune to criticism and bad decisions. With that said the clone army was too expensive. The clones could have been deployed as battlefield commanders and generals. Leading high grade droids and B-1 to fill in their ranks. Jedi and other special units would be used as shock troops and special forces. In general not as leaders. but as Force multipliers. Skill Jedi commanders. Would still lead certain units.

Yes I did watch the movie's. And yes the point was not for the republic to win. It was for palpatine to win. From that point of view. The war was a smashing success. With the exception of a few escape Jedi of course. My point is not what efficient for the emperor. but For the republic. And CIS for that matter. And just because palpatine was pulling the strings. Doesn't mean common sense and military logistics / strategy go out the window. Even today the US army looks at supply routes. military lines. And the cost to support all surrounding activity. But it kind of seems a bit like Spaceballs when nobody looks at the total expense. Manpower. weaponry. gear. transportation. supply lines. By filling in their ranks with some cheaper units they could hold their ground better and defend more worlds.

Palpatine needed to draw out the war! For palpatine war was good for business. For the republic war was bad for business. And for the CIS a long war was bad for business. Yeah, I agree.
I think if the Jedi were a part of the actual military and worked with them rather than over them like how we see in the show, more battles would have been won, or at least been a bit more decisive.
Letting the Jedi Code get in the way of Vanilla Military tactics was the biggest mistake the republic could have made.
In rare cases, like with Plo Koon, Anakin, Obi-wan and a select few other Jedi, they would be able to effectively lead and it worked out well. Notice, these Jedi saw their clones as human beings, and actual people with personalities, and not just tools of war.
But even then, Anakin was constantly second guessing whether the Jedi Way was really the right way to win the war.
Remember what Tarkin had said that lead Anakin to say “Maybe he’s right. Maybe the Jedi Code keeps us from achieving victory in this war” or something along those lines.
You’ll find it at the end of the Citadel Arc, where Tarkin states if more Jedi were like Anakin, the Military structure and tactics wouldn’t be a complete shit show.

      @thalmoragent9344 4 роки тому +2

      Thunder Cricket
I imagine that most people didn’t want to fight, and the few who did would have joined and fought along clones.
I figure since clones are genetically engineered and enhanced, normal troops would get in the way, so they’d be separate battalions for them, and most people who got conscripted would be put in more defense positions than attack ones.

I'm writing a script for a Live-Action Clone Wars TV Show that will be far different than the original animated one. This means more battles, more story, more behind the scenes things that we never see in the films and TV Shows, and finally, points of view that aren't all from Characters like Annikan, Obi-Wan, Asoka, etc. This means that you'll get a lot more from the clones than you did in the Clone Wars. I'm working on the Pilot Episode which will tell three stories happening at the first Battle of Geonosis. I commented here since I know there are a lot of Star Wars fans here and I wanted to hear some input on the idea, recommendations, and maybe even some requests for episodes.

It's really weird actually that the Republic and jedi are treated like the good guys in The Clone Wars: they use a slave army built by eugenicists.
It's also very condemning of the jedi order that they go along with the Republic using a slave army.
I find the lore interesting, and I enjoy The Clone Wars TV series, but some of the lore (mainly in the prequel trilogy) seems really badly thought out. For example the original concept of Clone Wars being against clones makes far more sense than the canon.

    I love Rogue One.
and I'm sure as hell if the director did a movie about Clone Troopers who joined the Rebellion fighting Clone Troopers who stayed in the Empire would be fking amazing. It should end with Rex leading his squad of Rebel Commandos and Rebel Clone Troopers vs Cody and his Dark Troopers. the climax would be a knife fight between the two as Vode An plays in the background.

This is an amazing take on TCW. are there any particularly gritty star wars books where this is shown in detail?

I'd love a trilogy of a show about the Sith in hiding during the high republic age. If I made it, it would feature the Sith as the protagonists and not paint them as entirely evil. The Jedi could be shown as a bit more brutal organization as we've previously seen.
It would have a wise Sith lord who takes a new apprentice and teaches him about the corrupt society of the Jedi. It would be cool to also see a younger and less experienced Yoda, maybe not yet a master. Maybe even a bit arrogant.
Star Wars has always been told from the perspective of the Jedi and thus, made them look like the good guys and the Sith like the bad guys. Everyone always forget how the Jedi and the Sith are two extremes and not simply good and evil.

Yeah, not a single planet got evaporated by a giant superweapon. That alone makes it tame compared to other Galactic wars.

Order 66 was originally supposed to be executed because the Clones hated Jedi so much because of their recklessness. There was even a cut out scene in RoTS where the clone executed a Jedi on Felucia with an ATTE and then stepped on her limp body with it.

This is a great video showcasing a topic that kinda gets swept under the rug sometimes when people talk about Star Wars. I feel this dynamic--that both sides condoned and created atrocities, with their troopers and civilians caught in the crossfire--is what makes the Clone Wars era so incredibly interesting to me. :) I think what it says about war, whether wars of the past or future, is really on the head and important. I know 'technically' it's not canon but the Dark Horse Clone Wars comics (see "The Best Blades" and "Battle for Jabiim") showcase some great examples of some really severe lapses in intel and preparation that caused major ripples in the history of the Star Wars universe.
[spoilers if you haven't read those books yet] The Battle of Merson literally entailed every single Republic trooper and Jedi onworld were killed within the first day of fighting as the CIS army was revealed to be too vast and entrenched for them. Jabiim's battle ended with the pocket of Republic survivors literally being evacuated from the planet, leaving their Jabiimese supporters left to fend for themselves. I think the battle of Jabiim featured the second most number of Jedi killed in action during a single campaign in any of the Clone Wars battles (second to the first battle of Geonosis). [end of spoilers]
And these failed campaigns are just Palpatine's machinations, your point that many of the Jedi were dispassionate toward their troops is exactly right. When it came to sowing distrust, frustration, and even hatred among their troops and their civilian supporters Palpatine barely had to lift a finger. There were so many Jedi that were content to brush aside their lack of experience and subsequent casualties/failures as to not be affected emotionally, and to maintain their dignified rank.
