good advice, I already follow that model, I ONLY release ONE design at a time...I sell that out or low inventory, then drop the next one, and I make them in a limited amount, I feel it makes it more exclusive, and folk jump on the designs as soon as they drop, and it keeps loyal customers coming back, wanting to have them all. that is how i am doing it NOW, not to say that I wont change it later...we will see, I will gather info etc. to see what I will do then.
Read my comment from three years ago, just wanted to update you that your video worked, ended up opening a shop in my city and building a a strong brand, started with two powerful one colour designs that put our name on the map. Thank you so much
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I started a fashion line and the information you have shared (Freely) will assist me not only with obtaining contracts or selling T-shirts, but a new outlook on how to present my clothing collections to buyers.
Nice. I have about almost 100 designs that I really want to get out but after watching this it makes more sense to start off with way less than that according to costs. Thanks for this. Cool video
Wow, thanks a lot, I almost did exactly that. I wanted to start with 10 designs but after taking your advice into consideration I took time to calculate my costs and found that even though I own my own print shop, the cost of films would have been 500 US dollars if I were to run ten A3 two colour designs. So I researched further and found that I can compliment the 5 designs I'm doing with cheaper products such as woolen hats stitched with woven tags, pvc key holders & Printed Simpski Cinch Bags. To everyone else, all the best.
This advice however, would not apply to etsy(or others), where your first couple months are EXTREMELY SLOW(like 90% of all businesses), and where more items in your store means you are much more likely to be found in a search. Good luck printing 24 of each design that are never gonna sell because your not being noticed, or because you have item that you thought would be a seller but turns out it's not. Bigger variety is better, and let's be realistic 10 designs is not overdoing it, thats small actually. Don't overdo inventory that you dont even know will sell, what if you order 24 of a particular shirt instead of 12 and it doesn't sell? You lose more money. Fund larger quantity when you see which items are actually selling and then you will reap the higher profit margin this guy is talking about. 24 may be 20% less PER shirt, but it still costs more. sincerely, T-shirt business owner
NO no, silk screening tees has a 12 piece minimum wholesale and a 1-2 week turn around time just for you to get the product then add 3-5 days to ship it to the customer. Your gonna make em wait 2-3 weeks to get their shirt?? no way..3-5 days tops from the time they order unless you want shitty reviews. This smaller quantity advice is for amateurs just starting that dont really know what they are doing, if you are experienced and know how to make your apparel fly off shelves then of course buy large quantities.
+meded moon and ultimately what i mean is 10 different designs in quantities of 12 (which will take time to sell if they even do) is better then 5 designs in quantities of 24, all in accordance with your budget, assuming their is one(which there is)and you are a beginner in the business are not sure of what sells and what doesn't. Your advice is acceptable for those that know they can sell. I made the mistake of ordering large quantities for a couple shirts that i thought were excellent, well...no one else did and i literally have 24 of them sitting around to this day, while others are selling fine. Set me back a bit and the extra 12 in quantity could've instead been used to purchase 12 of another design to add variety to my shop. Screw profit margin and give your customers a variety to choose from at least in the beginning. A small business shouldnt be concerned with making profit in the first 6 months anyway in my opinion
well explained for all of us screen printers out there getting people coming in with 87 designs and having to tell people the price of the setup fees and looking at their faces lol
I'm starting a new T biz, the Original RV line. I have some great design ideas but fiverr wants $100 per T to get the copyrights. This is out of my budget. We are selling it on Merch Amazon and I'm learning photoshop. Two questions. Using Merch do you still believe we should keep it low in the start and not releasing 10-12? Is there another design source other than Fiverr? I've been looking How does print work on the hemp/cotton blend? Nice video
I diversified by offering shirts to 5 different target groups with 10 or 12 designs per group, more choices equals more sales. To overcome the set up charges I simply bought a 6 color 1 station rotary screen press used for 500 dollars and a flash dryer then hired someone with a little screen printing experience and pay him by the shirt, he averages 40 shirts an hour and I pay him 15 dollars. So I get my shirts for about 1.50 each if I buy 144, inks about 0.15 per print, with solvents emulsion my finished product costs me less than 2.35. What I save just on set up allowed me to buy all the equipment for the brand and when sales are slow I take on printing for schools and small businesses, band T-shirts and such. If you take anything away from this comment it should be that more choices equals more sales.
I am a bit confused. A strong design is a vague term. If I do not have more initial designs to offer, it it very unlikely that fewer designs will win the jackpot. But according to him, initially offering more designs is a bad idea. What to do then?
I'm interested in having some shirts made for a line I'm creating. I wanted to get an idea of your pricing. In particular large prints and printing on front and back.
it's usually pre-printed fabrics. Especially when it's for large quantities...They print the fabric THEN it goes to the seamstress to become a shirt! It's MUCH MUCH cheaper too!
Im thinking of starting my own label i found this video so useful but i would like more info any chance we can talk as you seem to know what your doing
Thanks for the video mate.. I am in the process of getting my brand into production in the near future. Can I speak with over the phone to discuss if psi can help me get going. Cheers mate
Well I'm selling my brand on sites like spreadshirt. teepublic etc. What I am thinking is if i cannot handle the load. I can just send the orders to my online printers.
That is definitely great advice! I launched my own label called: Really?!? (ReallyTees Apparel) facebook.com/reallytees Let me say that a "great alternative" to screen printing is DTG (Digital To Garment Printing)....The advantage is that there are no screens involved and the images are embedded into the t-shirt, giving it a great feel and your minimums to print are much lower than the minimums needed for screen printing; however, the cost is slightly more, but it is intended for orders with smaller volumes....Personally I do both. DTG can be great, particularly when you may have a design that has more than 3 colors, which the more colors you have the more the cost and set up fees for screen printing....I hope this helps...definitely give us a look and thanks again for the advise!! Get a feel for your budget and as you generate more interest, you may wind up using both for specific reasons....
David Destephen this is what I'm leaning towards, I love using half tones and lots of colors, and screen printing really limits that, unless you have mountains of capitol laying around. I'm starting small too, so low minimums sound better. I feel like it may be worth the cost increase per shirt, cause I'm not getting reamed on set up fees and screen fees.

I am starting my own clothing brand and I want to find a place that will bring a great quality work, and by quality I mean good material shirts and good screen printing and embroidery skills, in a good price. Thanks!!
fck me... Is that true u guys cant leave your houses and go out untill it gets dark because of drop bears and hoop snakes waiting for a good momment to attack ?

Nice. I have about almost 100 designs that I really want to get out but after watching this it makes more sense to start off with way less than that according to costs. Thanks for this. Cool video

The Beard is great, Tidy, Clean & Looked after. Also if you think about it, you tend to take him more seriously into the advise he's giving. Good day

? just make the shirts when an orders made youll have to ship it anyway
