Hope this video helps!

Attention: If this didn't work for you, or if you wanna avoid the code part - you can cheat!
You can Hold ALT while adjusting the box and that will cut out those extra zeros at the beginning.
actual lifesaver. quick, easy, to the point, no extra nonsense. Thank you!!!
Super happy to help
Awesome! Here I was linking OBS to an online timer like a fool without realising that I could make a much better one myself! Thank you!
Glad I could help! This one is completely local as well - and with some tweaking you can turn it into a counter, I've used it for some gameplay videos where I wanna log how long I have spent playing said game!
This was super easy! I am total newbie to OBS and I am delighted how fast I could implement the timer. Thanks a lot for this video!
I love creating Short, Sweet and To the Point videos (SSTP). Do you have any recommendations for me to do, maybe saw a video that was too long and you got to minute 12 and it took 3 seconds. Comment below!
A lot of us appreciate it. Thank u for doing it
Prettymuch straightforward. Thanks! :D
This was quick and easy! Thanks so much!
Thank you this was EXTREMELY helpful for me as a beginner teaching myself obs. I was starting to think it would be impossible to find a timer that didn't require streamelements or streamlabs since i don't want to use them and this was perfect! Simple, straight to the point, and easy to follow. I appreciate it ^-^
Super happy you found this easy to follow! Was a little worried when others mentioned they got lost - any tips for them?
@@OfficialDlonem i think the video is very descriptive on what to do so the only advice I’d give is to slow down the playback speed of the video if anyone needs the steps said a little slower to keep up!
The only problem I’m having personally is figuring out how to get the timer to appear on all of my scenes instead of one at a time since it won’t allow pasting it to other scenes
This helped me a ton! More like this pls.
I cant believe it has been in OBS this whole time, I've had to watch way too many videos asking to download stuff when you have just simply told me in just 30 seconds what to do, so thank you 😀
LET'S GO! What other concepts are annoying covered in 30 minutes? I'd love to create their video in 5 minutes!
Thank You!!! Did not know this existed in OBS, You learn something new everyday! 😁
Happy to help! Hope you liked the video, and consider subscribing!
Thank you so much, this is one of the best short straight to the point helpful videos.
absolutely LOVE to hear this. Did you find how I did the file / script change easy to follow?
@@OfficialDlonem yep. couldn't be easier.
Actually the best tutorial for this!
Awesome thank you have been searching all over the place for a timer for my OBS! Thanks so much!
Glad I could help! Hope I see you around the channel again in the fufure
helpful video! i love the goose btw
I'm so glad!
Despite timer function being baked into OBS the 3 videos I saw before this, that are more recent than yours, all tell me to download shit or sign up for some 'free' service to get a widget.
This was fast and direct. No bullshit, great video.
I appreciate your comment! You took the time because I was able to save you a ton - with no download and no BS.
Thank you! I hope to see you around the channel again, perhaps if there are any other topics that you experience the same thing, I'd love to kick those videos butt's!

Yes sir thanks for stopping by
U are man! the timer was always under my nose, no need to search or download.thx!
I hate downloading, so happy to help you! Hope I earned your sub, and to see you around the channel :-)
Thanks for the video!
Can you make more than one of these, for different timers in different scenes?
I can't seem to be able to add another one?
If I were to attempt to do this, basically I would copy the .Lua file and rename it to Timer #2 then build another plug-in using that one so that would be two separate timers
Brilliant, thank you! 😊
happy to have helped! hope to have earned your sub and to see you around the channel
Thank you, very helpful :)
Very happy to help! Hope to see you around the channel :-)
Thank you! Finally, a simple way to add a counter to OBS! Now, is there a way to hotkey resetting the timer?
Now that's a great question! There may be an option in the settings of those scripts maybe.
If you hide/unhide the text source it restarts the timer, and you should be able to set up hotkeys to do that, or map that function to streamdeck buttons.
I WATCHED ALL VIDEOS NEVER FOUND ONE AND I FOUND YOU WHEN I FOUND U I THOUGHT U SAVED ME: you d.i.d SAVE ME!!
This comment was wild from start to finish, I am glad that I saved you
If you have problem with changing file type you need to go into file explorer options then view then uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
this is correct!
Lifesaver! TYSM!!
Glad it helped!
Awesome, thanks
super happy to help!!
Did I read correctly? was there a Clock Script as well?
If so can these be used together to create a countdown to a specific time.
IE: Live views start at 5pm and have the countdown go to that time automatically
I think there is a clock script as well, I just haven't personally used or configured it before!
Ok, I looked up how to set a stopwatch in OBS and this came up. How do you set it to go forward instead of backward.
Thank you very much!

my not a fan of the extra hours in front of the mins... im trying to edit script but for some reason its not allowing me to edit script...is there a reason why ? and what can i do ? please i need help .
can you pause it?
is there a way to pause and unpause the countdown or is it always gonna count down when i switch to that scene?
I believe you can open the plug-in area and manually trigger it using the pause and start button
much appreciated bro
No problem 👍
hey dude help, my file appear like a txt file (w11) i tried rename like you said but i don't know what i put on to return to LUA file.
I believe since it's a Lua file you add .lua to the end, if you're on a windows computer and don't see the extension, at the top of the windows explorer, looks for like "View" then check off the box that says "file extensions" and you can change it
How do I get it to add time everytime I get a sub though, or do I have to manually edit it?
Ooo... I don't think this particular script is designed with that function in mind. You may want to look for external, downloadable scripts to do that one.
How do I use the same timer on different scenes? Thought copy and pasting would do the trick, but now all the scenes are running different timers
Interesting, that's a great question! I would have expected your issue being that only one timer is available at a time (versus there being all different ones).
Are you not able to create that new source, "new", and just point it to the "Existing" source that is the original text file, logically, that file is still being updated by the timer script and should be transferable between scenes!
There is a much easier method to get rid of the hour timer!
Just crop it out by holding alt and you can bring it back anytime you want!
This sounds right! Isn't there the issue of it being "04:52" as opposed to just 4?
@@OfficialDlonem i’ve never gotten that issue
THANKS A LOT DUDE.
Thanks for the sub!
Thank you!
You bet! Hope I earned your sub, see you around the channel!
Amazing - thank you, once the time runs out - how do we start it up again or reset it?
I think there is an actual reset button where the script play/pause/stop area is
@@OfficialDlonem you are correct :) thank you, I posted a video with my 10minute timer, super proud haha thanks again I’m sure to find more helpful tips and tricks from your content, I appreciate!!
Any idea how to edit the script on a Mac?
How do I find the preinstalled scripts if I cant see them immediately? Where do I locate them? (I tried installing another one before trying this method)
The file path should be visible in this video! I don't have it on hand. Make sure you have hidden items / folders visible if you're on a Windows machine (vs Linux vs X OS)
Great video, but almost everything I try in my OBS does not work on my Mac. Here I can only choose Text (FreeType 2), not the one you showed.
Interesting... but yet everything else showed up?
how do you stop and start it without resetting. Think about a timeout/pause?
Under Tools > Scripts, find the advanced-timer.lua and on the right hand side, there is a Start/Stop, so just keep that window open in another monitor and it sohuld accomplish what you want!
I tried this and it didn't work between the steps of having the new file in the scripts folder and refreshing it. It keeps telling me its "null" although i changed the name and did the same thing ? pls help
hmmm... i am thinking that maybe there is a typo in the document you saved? code is super finnicky so if there is one less , than there was originally, it can break it all.
other things, maybe sure you refresh the script and such and make sure the name and file time is good
Apparently this doesn't work because it saves the script as a text file named .lua even without the .txt after the name. Really regretting destroying my files. I can fix the code but the file will never run while it's a text file.
That was a crucial step in the saving process, don't panic - at the top of your windows file Explorer, go to the View tab, then check the show file extensions box. Then go to rename that file in question so it only has the .Lua and not the .lua.txt you're probably seeing.
Let me know if this works, we'll get this figured out
@@OfficialDlonemhow to Pause the timer 😢😢

Happy to help, hope I earned your sub!
I need a quick way to start my timer mid stream without having to climb into obs script settings to start/stop/reset it. Is there a way to do this?
use the eye ball icon in sources next to it. clicking it on and off making it visible or not will reset the timer.
Oh usually when I utilize this, I leave that little script settings open and I can just click to do this same thing
thank you!
Thanks!
Sure thing man! Be sure to like the video, and hope to see you around the channel again
how do I add "Starting in: " in front of the countdown?
I'd personally have to look at the text file and maybe another one, but there could be a way to insert text there!
very useful thankyou
Welcome 😊hope to see you around the channel!
For some reason its not showing up for me in obs. Its named properly and in the scripts folder but doesnt show under obs.
don't forget the .lua extension, otherwise it won't show up - that's my best guess to your issue as i know a lot of computer users don't have the extensions visible by default
Thanks man
happy to help! hope to see you around the channel
I tried saving the edited script and it doesn't work. I saved to my documents, dragged it into the folder and replaced the old file but it doesn't change.
So did you edit the file when it was outside of the file location? Sounrs like a saving issue? I had to launch my code editing software in order to Administrsror Save the file. Also show file extension, at the end it should be that Lua script
@@OfficialDlonem I clicked edit script. Opened it in notebook, erased the parts u said, then clicked save to documents. Then I opened the original script location and dragged the new file into it. A pop up said do I want to replace the old file so I said yes and another pop up asked if it was OK for the program to make changes. I said yes. But the file was exactly the same.
thank you for your service
Hope to see you around the channel!! :-)

is there any way to change the amount of seconds it counts down as well as minutes? otherwise this is really helpful ty!!
You mean set it to like 5 or 10 minutes?
@@OfficialDlonem for example setting it to idk lets say 4 minutes and 10 seconds, is there any way to do that? Or is it just minutes
@@browhoisgrace I haven't messed with this in awhile, but basically if you can set it to 4 minutes, you can set it to 4 minutes and 10 seconds - there may be something like %m where you change the minutes, then make sure to have a %s, with whatever amount you wish for
@@OfficialDlonem oo thanks, i'll try that out!
great tutorial but MAC users can't access the script folder... so can't replace .lua files :(
Software applications (such as VLC media player scripts or any other application that utilizes Lua scripts), the process might seem a bit daunting due to macOS's folder structure and security features but it definitely adds several more steps... Thank you for this! Please consider subscribing :-)
how can i see the timer when im out of obs studio? for example i set up the timer and i want to see the timer on my screen. how do i do that?
That's a great question actually. Technically, you can't. Since the timer is directly for your screen, yoh either gotta always show your OBS screen in another monitor or perhaps enable the seconds on your windows Taskbar
@@OfficialDlonem thank you at least i found the right tutorial :)
Sorry for late reply but is there a way to pause it?
I believe you may be able to pause it where you start it, I think there's a toggle option there. Unless you go under Source and click that, then right below what's being displayed but above sources that may be where the play/pause button shows
How to make it from Secs to Hours? because I plan on doing a long countdown
I believe this was in the video, essentially you just need to add the hour part as well
Thank you
Welcome! Don't forget to subscribe, I am still posting wonderful content!
What a G
yesssssir!!
If you dont see the text it might be because of the font that you choose
Ooo - good point! Also make sure the box for the text isn't off the screen!
Is there any way to stop the timer reseting himself after you changed the scene ?
I haven't tried this myself, so you may have to come back and tell me - BUT, you know the Text GDI file / source you add to say Scene 1? Add that "existing source" to Scene 2, it's my assumption that it'll still display the same contents, there may be some finaggling you have to do but please let me know!
If what OfficialDlonem recommended doesn't work set up a new scene titled Timer. Assign only the text/script to the scene. Then instead of adding a source (which may reset the timer) add the scene as a source.
Since the sources itself isn't duplicating it will function as required in the dedicated scene.
I do this for for all my video feed
How do i make it so it only statrts when i want it to
If you click on the timer or in the plugin area there will be a play button somewhere
Life saver!!
Yas!! Hope to see you around the channel
when i save into documents i can't find it afterwards
are you saving it in the correct location? and when you try looking for it is it with OBS or by yourself? Make sure it has the correct ending of the file
Thanks Man!! my kick chat says thaanks also
Love the countdown timer! Helps make things more interactive
or you use alt and use the mouse to hide the zeros :D?
haha wow just tried this that is way easier
This is also correct!
all while desktop goose is on his pc
We like to have a little fun here on this channel
is there a way to do this on streamlabs?
It's my belief that this would be done in a similar way!
I just tryed all of your steps and done them all right and now my OBS IS BROKEN!(i double check everything before i confirmed it) My timer is all messed up and not working😭😭😭
oh no! i am very sorry to hear this. hopefully you have a backup of before you made any changes, I would not be shocked if there was a typo or something with the code because that kind of thing loves to break things. Please let me know if you resolve this
How can i rename the new file as .lua?
You have to take the file out of that folder, rename it, then drag it back in - for me I was unable to rename it in that base folder
thank u
You're welcome! Don't forget to subscribe to the channel, may find some other guides or entertaining videos!
Anyone know how to turn this into a hotkey?
that's a great idea! I haven't thought about it
i did it exactly like you but the timer never shows up? its just the empty adjustable red boarder with no timer:/
You may have mixed something up in the script then! AKA, if the script has a character out of place it won't show up correctly, that or maybe the end of the script file is incorrect, if you recall in the video (or maybe I edited it out) it defaulted my script to lime Timer.lua.txt and that'll break it too
@@OfficialDlonem thank you for such a quick response! i just closed obs and reopened and it was there and working great. guess it was my computer. thank you so much for this helpful video!!!
@EpicAllieke Sometimes, a good reload is all you need! Turning it on and off again is a classic. Happy this worked out for you! I post helpful, fun and entertaining stuff! Hope to see you around the channel again :-)
@OfficialDlonem absolutely! Happy to have found you :)
How do you restart the timer?
I usually just reload the script
how do i pause and reset the timer
There should be a little button in the window where you set everything up that mentions pausing things, or like a Start/Stop
there is none.. @@OfficialDlonem
you cant stop the timer at all through obs, (you gotta setup a hotkey through the notepad) I just dont know what a hotkey ID is or how to find it. @@OfficialDlonem
