If you have a condition of some sort, I think one of the best ways to own it is to joke about it, or make no attempt to hide it. Jeremy Beadle had one hand smaller than the other, but he made no attempt to conceal it, and often gestured more with it as a way of making it *less* obvious to the audience.
Feldman was one of few people who understood that before we can laugh at others, we must be willing to laugh at ourselves, it's lamentable how many people laugh at others and then take offence when they become the joke.
Marty Feldman was of the Spike Milligan-Peter Sellers generation, who were fashioned in the war, whether fighting, escaping from the Nazis or living through the Blitz. They were made of stronger stuff than almost anyone born after 1945. They didn't always get it right but they created much of the best comedy made in TV, radio or film, followed only by the Cook-Cleese generation that followed in their footsteps.
So if I'm understanding this right, "Damn your eyes!" is the British equivalent of "F*** you!". But it could also be interpreted as "Your eyesight is terrible", to which Igor essentially responds "Yes, I'm well aware."
In italian it's even funnier, they say: "This is bad eye!" (as "this is unfortunate, nothing seems to go right around here!") "What about this?" (pointing at his eye)
The thing I’ve never understood about the scene, is that Igor says the switches look nasty and he’s not gonna be the first to throw them. Then Viktor yells at him. Igor warned him, Why is he yelling at him?
BitHead1000 To be fair, it is more idiotic to think that everyone still knows the very old expression “Damn your eyes” which is necessary to understand this scene
The fact that they kept this 4th wall breaking moment
That zoom is absolute plat, oh my god.
I love that he looks at the camera, i feel like thats ahead of its time
"Damn your Eyes!"
"Too Late!"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Funny how Feldman meant that as self deprecating humor relating to his medical condition. Few actors today share that same humor
+alexiaNBC yep

Thank you,, now it's funny.
I'm guessing this movie has a lot of British humor that went untranslated.
I prefer the british variant.
i remember mel brooks said if you wanted to hide from him you'd just stand in front of him up close
@@ellnatsI used to work with a guy who had a similar eye condition. A coworker used to tell him to “look at me when I’m talking to you.”
I was wheezing after this scene I was laughing so hard🤣🤣

"Ma è un malocchio, questo!"
"E questo, no?"
Vero
Thank you for sharing this! I need it for internet points. :-)
Someone please tell me why this made made me and my friend die of laughter when we first saw this in our film studies class 😭
Because it's one of the funniest films ever made
Me too!!!!
So we all first saw this movie in a film studies class? 😂😂
0:20 😂😂
My favorite part in this whole movie 😂😂😂😂
RIP Marty Feldman
The thing I’ve never understood about the scene, is that Igor says the switches look nasty and he’s not gonna be the first to throw them. Then Viktor yells at him. Igor warned him, Why is he yelling at him?
I guess because he was the one who noticed them in the first place.
This is one of the funniest jokes I have ever seen in a movie
In the Italian dubbed version the quotes were like:
"But it's the evil eye!"
"And what about this one?"
I'd love to know if the "too late" bit was in the script or improvised. Either way, Marty Feldman was hilarious!
Mel Brooks also used this line in Blazzing Saddles
Dim your eyes
Too late
Marty Feldman was funny as hell. He was creepy looking with those "bug eyes" but he was funny as hell. XD lol
He was my favorite
Almost everybody's eyes are slightly asymmetrical in both positioning and direction.
too late

Rudy Giulani brought me here
...what?
Did he actually say that?
I never understood this scene. Mind enlightening me anyone?
Marty Feldman had Graves Disease, which made his eyes bulge and occasionally point in odd directions.

Are you serious? Someone has to have the expression, “damn your eyes “ explained to them. I’m surrounded by idiots.
BitHead1000 too late.
@Tod The Fox - Too late.
