  • Summertime in Harlem, New York. Swing dancing is a form of dancing which emerged out of the big band swing charts written by Eddie Durham. Durham charted his first notable compositions for Bennie Moten, which Basie succeeded as The Count Basie Orchestra. The Count Basie Orch.'s music established the Swing idiom, from Durham's charts and arrangements. Durham also performed in both bands on trombone & guitar.
The last decade of his life (1906-1987/he is not in this video) Durham remained the band shown performing in this video, The Harlem Blues & Jazz Band (Albert Vollmer, Manager & MC) and toured Europe and Scandanavia. DurhamJazzdotcom

FYI: Eddie Durham is NOT in this video, However, this is these are the new members of The Harlem Blues & Jazz Band after Eddie and singer Laurel Watson died... Emcee Albert Vollmer is the original founder and Manager of this nostalgic, preservation band. Fred Staton is the brother of Dakota.
