Corn Does Grow | Theo Katzman

- From Vulfmon:
When I first heard this song off Theo's album 'Be the Wheel,' it felt like he was saying something true.
I still don't know what the song is about - and there are many interpretations - but it connects to something ancient, a "nature will prevail" vibe.
When I found out the guitar was in standard tuning, I asked Theo if I could film him playing it solo. He said he'd play it at a Monday meeting happening in Los Angeles, and I could film it there. I think I captured something great.

For those who don't get the metaphor, the corn represents corn and the growing represents growth (of the corn)
who is doing the growing?
@@protestthebread1046 mother nature
I really appreciate you sharing this, I've been stuck for months on the metaphysical implications of corn and the process of growth
corn@@protestthebread1046
This realization has shaken me to my core. I’m gonna need some time to process
Definitely a kernel of truth in there. This is pleasing to the ear.
Aw shucks, these jokes really grew on me.
The corny ones?@@Requiemization
This song just pops, simply amazeing
I'm gonna keep my ears peeled for more like this
Amaizeing comments here.
Gotta get this man an NPR tiny desk
Best song about corn
Forgot about Chicken in the Corn - Brushy Onestring
If you try it with butter everything changes.
Dunno man, it's pretty corny
For me it takes a back seat to "It's Corn": ua-cam.com/video/_caMQpiwiaU/v-deo.html - but it's close.
James Brown's Mother Popcorn?
We need more Be The Wheel tracks! Theo’s voice works so well with acoustic versions
I like the animation on the vulf logo. I always felt the aural was clever. Using color in the usually black and white logo is a nice touch
I'm a modest 32 years of age, and I've casually listened to everything I can, from house to classical to melodic death metal to insane clown posse including my best attempt to hear the most popular things from different eras. I can say with no qualifications at all and am merely arbitrary at best, Theo Katzman is as good as it gets. Such wow, very corn.
Theo brings a quality to his songwriting that encompasses a deep sensitivity, passion, and care. Very glad Vulf put the spotlight on him.
Theoooo!!! So clean!! I wanna take a nap inside that massive guitar while Theo plays it!!!
This song isn't humorless, but it's unusually sincere/straight for Vulf. Theo brings something totally different to Vulf, and I love it. Be The Wheel feels like a fresh direction.
Par for the course for Theo's solo stuff. I had no idea either until my cousin surprised me with some tickets to one of Theo's Be The Wheel tour shows, I got caught up on the backlog real quick after that (hands down the best show I've ever been to, basically just the -less- quirky half of Vulf going HAM with some fresh faces).
I love Vulf proper, but Theo's stuff be it solo or with the band is what I come back to most. Got a voice that resonates personally with me like the great singer-songwriters of the 70's -- Paul Simon, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Theo would fit right in.
I think it's a Theo solo work uploaded on the official Vulf channel
His stuff is usually more serious and/or introspective, it's great
This version is insanely pure, raw and full of power 😍
what a brilliant statement of fact, the corn does indeed grow
It’s always a good day for a new Theo song.
It's not a new song, but a new performance. Original is a really nice version as well!
You should check out the original! It's on Theo's album Be The Wheel
I love that baritone guitars are getting a new day in the sun
Is it actually a baritone? I just assumed it was a regular detuned guitar but now I'm not sure.
@@akmadsenLook at the size of it, the thing is enormous. It’s definitely a baritone.
maybe i'm crazy but the neck looks normal sized to me @@billofbong
@@billofbong I figured it was just a jumbo guitar. I don't think the neck looks longer than usual. An acoustic baritone would be pretty dope though!
@@akmadsen I'm probably completely wrong. I didn't really look at the neck
Amazing lyrics. The importance of learning to let go - stop trying to control things that are beyond your control, learn to accept what nature gives you and hold on to whatever happiness you're blessed with. You don't always have to be looking for the next big thing, sometimes you can just be content with what you have and that's the best thing for you.
Still needs to be tempered with not tolerating intolerance. There are definitely some things that we should keep unacceptable among people we associate with
Saw that cheeked-up guitar in the thumbnail and was like, "now this I've GOTTA see." And see, I did. Love me a good Vulf acoustic jam!
I can't imagine a more beautiful thing.
If the TRUTH is gonna float, then the LIE is gonna sink
What an powerful songwriter Theo is. Thank you Jack for capturing this and sharing it in a special light.
Theo's interpretation is next level. Always devoted to fully communicating emotions!
Theo is a G. This is one of his best bangers! Love the acoustic version!
I’d like to be sitting in with those hippies singing along enjoying this sweet corn.
What a full and beautiul sound of this guitar
Theo, thank you so much for your nuggets. I'm so thankful for your music and your remarkable gifts that keep on giving. When I go through hard times in life and have problems getting stuck in my head, I always come back to "100 Years From Now" to regain perspective. One of those days happened to be last night when I listened to it.
You've become like an old friend that I listen to that shakes me back into existence and brings me back online again.
So-- when I opened up my UA-cam feed this morning, I was so thrilled to see this uploaded. This one is yet another gentle and beautiful lesson and therapy session for me. I think I'm gonna be OK. Cheers to you buddy. Keep doing what you do.
literally my favorite song of all time
Guitars seem to be growing too. Huge beast. Hugely great song, too.
A-maize-ing!
im always ranching corn. every evening after the corn is done grazing i get my border collie to herd up the corn to get em put back in the barn for the night. its some hard work out there i tell you but when that first cob of the year is born i tell ya it makes it all worth it. the corn truly does grow
Beautiful Theo and Jack and gang
I remember seeing him perform this in PHX and the whole crowd just had this humbled silence of "oooo shit these lyrics are hitting different" and I just had chills the whole show after that
This song got the crowd going when I saw Theo live. Great acoustic version!
Yeah for real! I saw him last year and I wasn’t familiar with this song but there was just about a damn mosh pit for this banger LOL
Dude this song on his Be The Wheel tour was so intense! The solos, the passion... All of it
love the new intro, very cool!!
We need more! MORE! That's a pure gold
I love it when people use as few microphones as possible, it feels really organic and live. That guitar is massive! I love the guitar part in this song. The bridge harmony is awesome, I need to go through and transcribe it. Vulf did it again!
That spring reverb is bringing the heat! So good
I really like this acoustic version. The song has really cool harmony which shines through really well here.
I was expecting the word Popcorn all the time listening 🎶 the lyrics. Now, seriously... another great song Theo ❤
Theo forever grows in my heart !
Loved the tour, Theo! Saw you in St. Louis!
i love the vulf features of theo's songs! a great addition
Hard to argue with the man
Absolutely beautiful and truthful as always. Thanks.
Thank you for capturing, Jack. Totally brightened up my afternoon.
Wow, outdoors + whatever reverb is being used here creates a very interesting vibe for the vocals, I love it
i love this version so much. it even made me appreciate the original version more!
Love this version!! Appeals to me even more as the album version 😮
despite missing that overly distorted voice, theo WILL deliver every goddamn time. qué será será bebé
I quite like this version. Just the guitar and vocals make it sound sincere and reflective. Lovely performance.
This was a spiritual watch and listen. Beautiful and poignant as always, Dr. Katzman.
Another piece of gold. Every time I see a new video with the V, I get so excited.
Your message has an unexpected music theory reading (“V, I”) 😄
YES!!! This tune cut deep the first time I heard it!!!!
This is the best thing I've ever heard!
This really puts the "west" in the mid-west roots of Vulfpeck
Theo is from Long Island though
True. But I was referring to Vulfpeck as a group, who I believe mainly formed in Ann Arbor, MI.@@rustydomino
...where the corn grows?
@@UvasonarDe I'm sure there are corn field in Ann Arbor. Haha
@w1ndw4ker95 wow didn't know they were from ann arbor
Theo just doing that thang so well.
this is so good stripped down to the acoustic guitar and vocals
Awesome to see Nico from Próxima Parada in the "choir" :)
Went looking for this comment! Really cool that they know each other and also makes total sense!
so cool Theo let you join this serendipitous meeting in LA
Those chords in the bridge are so kickass
So so great
absolutely incredible tune, Theo. You're one of the best
what a great guitar sound!
Not at all corny.
This is beautiful beyond words🔥
The intro graphic was gorgeous
unbelievable how you got that full of a sound by recording outside with only one microphone. also, incredibly beautiful performance!
that guitar is friggin huge
easily my new favorite song about growing corn
Theo, you're a pure genious! It feels like Jeff Buckley has touched your soul, man!
Apart from perhaps the Jeff Buckley songtitle: "all flowers in time bend towards the sun".. resembling "corn does grow" I'm puzzled by this comparison? Jeff Buckley was mainly a session / cover artist right?
This video reminds me why I follow this channel! Amazing Theo!
"Saying I love you, are not the words, I want to hear from you..."
Words to live by
This is music to my ears
you gotta be kidding. this is nuts
AND THE CORN DOES GROW!
my absolute favorite off theos album
This is 3rd best song ive ever heard about corn🔥
That low guitar sounds chefs kiss.
Excellent performance. Bravo.
Theo is the camp councilor we all needed
Nice outdoor room reverb xD! love it
Amazing feel
the size of that guitar scares me immensely
Mike Viola really did a number on you guys! Heheheh.
Beautiful stuff!
Damn right it does
Good songwriting Mr Katzman.
Indeed it does!
IMO, this is the definitive version of the song and should be re-released. Theo needs to do an acoustic album.
hope this is the first of many new videos :)
Powerful truths.
Singing around the campfire vibes!
more like cult vibes
This hits
brilliant as always
this is absolutely a-maize-ing
In case you were wondering, this song is essentially getting at the concept of growth with respect to corn or in other words corn, the crop, does, indeed, grow.
soooooo good
So much truth. So much corn. So much growth.
I hope to hear more from Caroline Portu. Her contribution to this song is imperceptible, but the little I've heard from her solo efforts and what I know of her taste (based on her content), I'd be interested to hear more from her.
This is incredible
"And if you don't know, now ya know"... That the corn does grow 🌽
Awesome song! I first read it as Corn Dogs Grow 😆
Excellent song, even with the cultish commune vibe... See you Evangeline
cool song and really cool video.
