Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time. Your truthfulness (and humour) is appreciated especially the vid on show don't tell, I was really confused on that topic and changing my writings around, but your vid cleared it up for me, and your style of teaching makes it easier for me to understand. I'm a bit of a newbie first time writing a memoir and have been studying since the covid year and writing my memoir a bit at a time. I love your vids. My next one is Structuring a Memoir take care and thanks again...😊

Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I've seen newbie writers craft incredible memoirs! Glad I'm able to be a small part in helping you craft yours.

Hi Wendy, it is always beneficial to learn from your videos.
I was told by an editor that my memoir should follow The Three Act Story Structure, meaning Act I 25%, Act II 50% and Act III 25%.
You mentioned Tara Westover's Educated. I also appretiate this memoir and am applying what I've learned from it to help guide me with my own.
Westover of course uses The Three Act Story Structure. Her division is this: Part I 46%, Part II 31%, Part III 23%.
Do you have thoughts on the balance of division between Acts?
    Glenn

Glenn, I wouldn't overthink three-act structure. If you have a quest in your book and this quest evolves naturally over the course of the story, I've found that most books fall into a three-act structure automatically. Yes, three act structure should be about 25%, 50%, 25%. Again, this usually happens intuitively, except for Act 3, which is where I see most people get into problems. I'll have to do a video on that! Keep going with that memoir of yours, Glenn.

Okay, loved Tara's book. "After that he was at war, even if the war was only in his head. Perhaps that is why Tony looks at the photo and sees his father, and I see a stranger." Brilliant writing. BUT "I don't remember it because it was before I was born..." is more cringeworthy than the word cringeworthy.
