    The way Todd Field wrote this is so clever. What we are seeing here is how Lydia Tár treats the women she abuses like Krista saying "I will get you and no one will believe you because I am a grown-up" but switching to "no one will believe you because I am Lydia Tár". One of the best screenplays and characters in recent memory, it's a shame Todd Field didn't win Best Original Screenplay or Blanchett for Best Actress even though I do like EEAAO.

      Also, what we are saeeing is Lydia Tár trying to help her daughter against a bully who abuses girls ;-) That's thy thing about this film, it only sketches the possible interpretations, it doesn't tell you "it's like this".

    The casual "Hello! Hi!" at the end.
    Great scene!

      It was psychological torture. Tar says "Hello" to the other grown-up *purposefully* so that Johanna can see. It reinforces and reminds Johanna that "grown-ups are a unit, and I'm a grown-up, and no one will believe you if you tell anyone... and then I will get you."

    Our first glimpse at the monster living within Tár. She feels she's beyond reproach, insulated from all consequence, and that level power is something she deserves to wield simply because she's a great artist. A fitting irony that she cautions that "God watches us all".

    All around this film is a masterpiece. I've never seen a narcissist portrayed so accurately (and occasionally sympathetically) in any other film.

    I was being mobbed as a child. For years. My parents simply ignored it. It took me decades to overcone this trauma. I am sorry, but as a father I would react exactly like Cate here. That is one of rhe many reasons for me not to have children.

    Why does she introduce herself as Petras father?

    • @carter6024
      @carter6024 4 місяці тому +20

      It’s implied that the girl is bullying Petra because Petra’s parents are a lesbian couple. Tar introduces herself as “Petra’s father,” IMO, to both reference the girl’s bullying and to intimidate her by indicating that she (Tar) embodies a masculine social role-in this case, being violent and powerful.

    This reminds me of the mythos of the Bogeyman, or in German, "der Schwarze mann" (the black man) who punishes children by taking them to an unknown but torturous place. The figure itself is described in many cultures and is a way to impose vague threats to children who do not behave. The Bogeyman is a man or a 'masculine figure' and is said to "get you" if you are not cautious.
