just tried to make this soap along with the video. The clay was really had to mix and Im thinking I did not mix long enough because after I put into the molds the oil came to the top and started to drip over. It's still spectated. It was thick so at trace but something went left. Any thoughts?
I ordered the kit for this soap, made it a month ago and it is actually the soap we are using at home for body and face; we love it! I love your book, this is the first soap I make from your book! Thanks for your videos! And for people who are thinking about getting a soaping book get her book "Pure soap making" it is a beautiful book and has amazing recipes!
Oh thank you so much, it means the world to me! =) Pure Soapmaking: www.brambleberry.com/Pure-Soapmaking-How-to-Create-Nourishing-Natural-Skin-Care-Soaps-P6298.aspx
I just received my beginners kit to make energizing orange 🍊 soap a couple days ago. I will use no other brand of soap!!! The steps were so easy and my soap came out so beautifully and cleans so well. I was so proud of myself I started just giving out bars to my family to try and love as well as I did. I will always come back to bramble berry to purchase more items on my soap journey. Thank you Anne-Marie 💕
I just recently bought your book Pure Soap Making. I highly recommend this book to anyone, its very detailed and informative. I am new to soap making. I have not made any soap yet but learning by watching your videos. Your videos are the best. Thank you for all your help
Just made this lovely little soap for our new great-niece. It took nearly 10 minutes to lightly trace... double checked the quantities and all good there. The differences were omitting the Sodium Lactate and adding the clay and oatmeal to the melted oils before the lye solution. I did this because with a new recipe I'm never sure how quickly the batter will trace.
Love your videos! You inspired me to make soap over a year ago, and now I make soap nearly every week! When I watched your video for the first time, I wasn't overwhelmed; I was inspired! That takes talent, Soap Queen!
Have been looking for a soap base without propylene glycol and palm oil. Propylene glycol and Palm oil which are detrimental to life and wild life. This is a good recipe. Thanks Ann Marie!
That would be lovely! With pure natural ingredients for our facial tissue should be treated like a rose petal. This baby recipe can be used on face too?
Soap Queen TV by Bramble Berry Is this recipe safe enough for newborn babies? I'm having a baby and planning to make some gentle soap for him instead of buying grocery products..
i made this soap 2 weeks ago but I make a mistake with the clay :( I don't know why I add 3 TBS!!! I test a little end of the soap and its so drying for my hands but for the body its wonderful. the soap when its wet become so slimy but I can live with that :p , next time I hope to make it right.
Hi, I just made my first order on brambleberry last night and my first batch of soap today! I can't wait to try this one on my 8 month old, but I am curious if you think cocoa butter will work as well instead of shea butter. Great video! Thanks!
Oh thank you so much for your order! You can use cocoa butter in place of shea butter. Cocoa butter is harder, so the soap will be a bit more firm. It will still feel great though. =) Remember to run your recipe through the Lye Calculator after any substitutions: www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Lye-Calculator.aspx This post on substituting oils in cold process soap is helpful as well: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/how-to-substitute-oil-in-cold-process-recipes/
I am a beginner and I have just started watching your videos and find them very inspiring. I love this recipe and would like to try it. I have few questions though- Can I replace Bentonite clay with Kaolin clay in this recipe? As I stay in India and the temperature here is in upper thirties, will the soap turn out good or a bit soft?
OMG, lovely soap! I will definitely use the recipe! My best friend will have a baby soon, so I think that will be a great gift idea. And this baby/stork stamp is so cute XD Have you had it custom made or is it something you've bought online? If so, may I ask where did you found it?
The infused oils don't scent the bars very much at all, and may not color them very much either. I would recommend using a fragrance or essential oil instead! We have a great Chamomile Fragrance Oil you may like: www.brambleberry.com/Chamomile-Cybilla-Fragrance-Oil-P3363.aspx? You can use our Fragrance Calculator to find out how much to add to your recipe: www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Fragrance-Calculator.aspx
As someone who has spent time in a chem lab working with lye it really bothers me that she is wearing a thin long sleeve shirt under an apron and saying it's for safety. If she did get lye on her sleeves, she would have to take off the apron and then her shirt to get the lye soaked fabric off. It's why we wear heavy lab coats over shirts short sleeve shirts. It's easy to take off the lab coat so as to minimize the amount of time lye is in contact with our skin.
I am making this recipe (tripled to 3.75#) and baffled by how much total water will be in the recipe: almost 12 oz plus another 12 Tbsp in the clay. I would love to hear if this is accurate before I make the recipe. I am tempted to just do the 4 or 5 Tbsp in your original smaller recipe. Any advice here Soap Queen? I did just make this recipe, increased to 3.75#, and I chose to use part of the recipe water to soak the Bentonite instead of adding additional water - so we'll see. I am also wondering if you insulate this soap or just let it saponify at room temp uncovered.?? Another unknown, ha. Hmmm hmmm, what to do. Thanks for the great video, and I look forward to seeing how mine turns out.
I really want to try the oatmeal milk and honey fragrance oil. Is the Brambleberry recipe for this soap available online? I assume it would be called Oatmeal Milk and Honey soap. Thanks!
Love your tutorials, very well explained. Please I have two questions : Can I use extra virgin olive oil for this soap? And if I don't have resealable tea bag,can i just pour the chamomile inside the oil directly to infuse it?
Yes and yes! Extra virgin olive oil should work well (a small test batch will let you know for sure), and you can infuse the chamomile directly in the oil. Just use a strainer to remove it afterward. =) We did that in this infusing post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/how-to-infuse-oils-with-a-crock-pot/
can you please make a video on face wash base making & could you please also tel me what are the differences we can make in face wash for oily skin & dry skin while making the base?

It was very nice mam but here at my place it is very difficult to get most of the things you have mentioned in the recipe & if I buy online my costing will be interested so m not getting what to do :(
I want to make your gentle oatmeal baby soap. After watching your video; I looked up Bentonite clay and it contains lead. I’m sure that is not good for anyone especially babies. Is there one that is lead free?
Hi there, thanks for the suggestion! That oil combination might be a little tricky, because it does not contain any slow-moving liquid oils, like olive oil. The olive oil in this recipe really helps the final bars feel nice and gentle on the skin. =)
Completely unrelated to this soap, but I have a soap question. I make a green tea and fig bar with your oval soap mold. I ALWAYS get soda ash on the tops. I even spray with the isopropyl alcohol I purchased from your site. Is there something that can help it?
Absolutely! It can help to water discount the soap, increase your temperatures to 125-130F and pour the soap when it's a bit thicker. All of those steps help prevent soda ash. If you still get it, don't worry. You can steam it off or wipe the soap with an old nylon to remove the ash. =) Read more about preventing soda ash here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/explaining-and-preventing-soda-ash/
I understand the suggestion for chamomile but it is a common allergen in the ragweed family. So if this soap is used for you or your baby I would recommend not using chamomile if you have a ragweed allergy
Absolutely, you'll want to avoid the chamomile if you have an allergy! Read more about soaping with allergies here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/soaping-with-allergies-nuts-gluten-more/
Do you have a website or Etsy where you sell the actual soap? I have very sensitive skin and would love to try a bar :3 I'm currently using Johnson and Johnson's baby soap and the fragrance in that burns my skin 😫
We don't sell the soap you see here, but we do sell the supplies to make it on BrambleBerry.com! You can also find lots of great handmade soap on Etsy.com. =)
A few questions... 1. What is the alternative to Olive oil, in case someone is allergic to it? 2. Is this readymade lye water without using sodium hydroxide? 3. I tried making homemade soap, but once lye water is added to oils, the smell is quite irritating and almost feels like it is causing a burning sensation in the throat. Why does this happen? I have left soap making due to this very reason. Any advice or suggestions would be extremely appreciated.
There isn't really an alternative to pure castile soap made with Olive Oil, though you can use a base oil blend of Coconut and Palm for similar results. We don't offer ready made lye water, it was already blended prior to us recording the video though. The smell being irritating is normal, you can use a face mask to prevent it or soap in a room with lots of air flow.
Oh MY Gosh!!! Ann-Marie! This is one of my new faves for my two little Grandsons. Thank you so much. I can't thank you enough. Love your show. Quick question. Is there any way to make no tears soap for the little ones?
Hi Ann Marie. I have just body lotion but I used candilla wax instead of the BTMS 50 on your website, as I find it lathery, not sinking in to the skin well. I stirred the wax, oil and distilled water until it was completely cool, but it separated. Can you tell me at what % can I use BTMS 50 at it's lowest because I don;t like my lotion lathery. Thank you.
Could you use a 100% chamomile tea if you can't readily get chamomile flowers? If so how many would you need? And could you infuse the oil the same way? And do you really need to add Shea butter to the soap?
I want to answer your question because I've made this soap with my own ingredients. Yes, you can use just chamomile tea bags if that's all you have. I do it all the time. I don't use any of the expensive butters or oils in my soaps and the substitutes work quite well. My soaps are very mild. What I use instead is shortening, like Crisco's new formulation, which uses hydrogenated palm & soy oils. The resulting soap is vegan, mild and, though technically not what the industry calls Castile soap, it's still just as mild. However, be aware that you need to read the ingredients to make sure it has no tallow or lard, only because they can a bit harsher than veg oils. Use olive oil at 80% and the shortening (at Walmart they carry a Great Value shortening that similar to Crisco) at 20% and you'll have a lovely bar of soap. One more thing. A soap with this much olive oil has to cure for at LEAST 6 months before it's apt for use. The reason is that olive oil, even pomace, takes a LOONG time to harden enough so it doesn't just dissolve in a month. I use filtered seawater (from the ocean!) and even then my bars aren't ready to use before those 6 months. Just a heads up. Happy soaping!

hi, I followed all the instructions in ur videos just that I added carrot to my soap , but it didn't solidify, what could be the problem. I love ur videos, thanks so much.
Oh I'm sorry about that! How long did you stick blend the soap? Also, what kind of lye did you use? Buttermilk Bastille Baby Bar: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/cold-process-soap/buttermilk-bastille-baby-bar-on-soap-queen-tv/
Soap Queen TV I think I blended for about 10-15 minutes, the lye don't knw the name but got it from a chemical shop, I've use it before and the soap came out perfect but I don't knw what I did wrong today, thanks soap Queen
I would recommend a stick blender! A hand blender can take at least two hours to emulsify, while a stick blender takes just a few minutes. You can find those online, at a kitchen supply store or a department store like Target. =)
Hello Soapqueen, I want to make a bentonite clay soap which method gives the best results a) adding the b clay to the oils or as you did in this video mix with 4.3ozs of water then add at trace? Please and thank you
Thank you was just about to make a soap using oatmeal didn't know how much oatmeal. Made a Chamomile infused tea soap so wanted to do one for babies. Does it matter the type of oats?
We have found 99% works best, but if you can only find 95% that should work! =) Read more about alcohol here: www.soapqueen.com/bramble-berry-news/sunday-night-spotlight-99-isopropyl-alcohol/
I typically add my Kaolin clay directly into the lye water...are there any disadvantages to adding the Bentonite or Kaolin clays directly to the lye water instead of mixing separately? Thank you!
If that works well you can definitely add the clay to the lye water! We add it at trace to help prevent acceleration. If you find your soap doesn't move too fast, clay in the lye water will definitely work. =)
She says 6-8 weeks but, because of the olive oil (pomace), I'd say this soap is best after 6 months. It's why commercial Castile soap is so expensive. Artisanal soap makers will usually cure it for a year or more. Same with Aleppo and Aleppo-style soaps. They're olive oil based as well.
This soap didn't gel! We left the soap at room temperature. I believe the spots were just a bit of soap leftover on the cutting board. You can gel it if you like. Either way works fine. =) Read more about gel phase here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/gel-phase/
You can! I would recommend mixing 1 teaspoon of both into 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol. Then, mix well and add 1/2 dispersed teaspoon at a time. =) See how to use clays in this melt and pour tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/2qwgbt59L9Y/v-deo.html
I made this , but eyes are burning mildly, and after wash soap its turn gel type. Cant even handle in hands. I tried 3 or 4 times carefully. Plz help what to do.
Jothi there are a few potential reasons for the burning. Did the soap get into your eyes? Or are your eyes burning when you are washing your hands? This is not a tear free soap and it will burn if it gets into your eyes so avoid using it near the eyes. However, if your eyes are burning when you're washing your hands then you may be allergic to one of the ingredients. If so, stop using this soap. It's also possible that the soap is lye heavy. That something wasn't measured precisely when making the soap. You can use a PH test to find the ph levels of your soap and see if it is within the right range for bar soap (around 8 to 9 on the ph scale, higher means that there's to much lye in the soap). If the ph is too high stop using the soap. Do not sell or share the soap with anyone. Throw the soap away as it's dangerous to use. You mention it turning to gel. How long ago did you make the soap? It may need to cure longer before being used. This soap is high in olive oil and needs to cure for at least 2 months but preferably 6 months for the bars to be firm and not turn into gel when using. Also when using any homemade soap it's best to store it in a well draining soap dish between uses. If it's sitting in water it will get mushy. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions or need clarification.
Thank you madam.ph level is 7 only. And I used after 2 months of curing. Yesterday is saw video which your team post. Pure olive soap wil turn mushy. Yes my soap is like same. I used bramble berry lye calculator only for prepare lye. In this video she take it soap from mould easily but we can't its sticked. Why this soap turn mushy while use? Am making all soaps with help of your lye calculator thank you. But this only makes struggle. Help us
Can I use olive oil instead of olive oil pomace and can I skip the sodium lactate. I guess my question is if I use olive oil instead of olive oil pomace and skip sodium lactate without having to run it through a lye Calc.

Absolutely, you'll want to avoid the chamomile if you have an allergy!

Where can i buy such a stamp? Tx for sharing
Could you use regular organic extra virgin olive oil for this?
Yes, pomace and virgin are the same type of oil but pomace works better
Do you have a website or Etsy where you sell the actual soap? I have very sensitive skin and would love to try a bar :3 I'm currently using Johnson and Johnson's baby soap and the fragrance in that burns my skin 😫
We don't sell the soap you see here, but we do sell the supplies to make it on BrambleBerry.com! You can also find lots of great handmade soap on Etsy.com. =)
Can kaolin clay replace the benzo clay?
I want to know this too!
Yes.
Can I use cocoa butter in place of shea butter?
I made this soap, and its been in the mold for a day so far. Looked good, but I think the trace i got was too thick...will that effect the soap?
Sliaa and Hansi no it will not.
Is there an alternative to sodium lactate?
Yes. Just dissolve regular salt or sea salt in the lye water instead of sodium lactate.
So AWESOME!!!!❤️❤️
You are The best
I loved the video
"Confit" is a great cooking technique to give flavor to the oil/fat.
Can I use without the benotin clay?
I will making this for a new born baby, is it possible to add chamomile or lavender hydrosols? If so, how much do I add in there?
Hello how is the lather on this soap ? Does it created nice bubbles ?
Can you grind up steel cut oatmeal instead??
Super great video as always 👍 thanks.
Hi Ann Marie, Can I use organic extra Virgin olive oil instead of olive oil pomace?
Yes, you can.
@@itzcloveynuh1207 thanks x
@@mirhawalimohamed425 You're welcome. 💖💕💝👍🙃
So cute!!
Thank you Eliana!
@@bramble-berry Thank you so much for your suggestions.
Hello! Could this be made into ice cube shapes and after cured, be melted back down, adding essential oils/colours later? Like a soap base?
I'm thinking of buying the book but I want to ask first, does it have ingredient for shampoos and conditional.
It doesn't have shampoo and conditioner, but it does have 32 cold process recipes with lots of different techniques! =)

Could you substitute the bentonite clay for kaolin clay and if yes, do I need to adjust the amount? Will it change the soap outcome?
hi, I followed all the instructions in ur videos just that I added carrot to my soap , but it didn't solidify, what could be the problem. I love ur videos, thanks so much.
Oh I'm sorry about that! How long did you stick blend the soap? Also, what kind of lye did you use?

Soap Queen TV I think I blended for about 10-15 minutes, the lye don't knw the name but got it from a chemical shop, I've use it before and the soap came out perfect but I don't knw what I did wrong today, thanks soap Queen
Thanks! Are you using a stick blender or a hand blender? Also, how old is the lye?
Soap Queen TV thanks , I used a hand blender, and the lye I bought yesterday, please what can I do to make the soap harden . thanks
I would recommend a stick blender! A hand blender can take at least two hours to emulsify, while a stick blender takes just a few minutes. You can find those online, at a kitchen supply store or a department store like Target. =)
Royalty Soaps made this soap too!
She did! We sent her a kit to try after my book came out. We love Katie. =)
Hello Soapqueen, I want to make a bentonite clay soap which method gives the best results a) adding the b clay to the oils or as you did in this video mix with 4.3ozs of water then add at trace? Please and thank you
Can I follow this recipe to make a soap for my baby ? Is it a complete recipe with necessary instructions ?
Yes, you can
Thank you was just about to make a soap using oatmeal didn't know how much oatmeal. Made a Chamomile infused tea soap so wanted to do one for babies.
Does it matter the type of oats?
You'll want to use the old fashioned rolled oats instead of the quick oats! The old fashioned ones work best. =)
Soap Queen TV I can only find 95% isopropyl alcohol is that a problem? Your channel has been my go to. Love it!
We have found 99% works best, but if you can only find 95% that should work! =)
Read more about alcohol here: www.soapqueen.com/bramble-berry-news/sunday-night-spotlight-99-isopropyl-alcohol/
Hii can I use this soap for newborn baby ?
I typically add my Kaolin clay directly into the lye water...are there any disadvantages to adding the Bentonite or Kaolin clays directly to the lye water instead of mixing separately?
Thank you!
If that works well you can definitely add the clay to the lye water! We add it at trace to help prevent acceleration. If you find your soap doesn't move too fast, clay in the lye water will definitely work. =)
Can you use regular olive oil if you don't have the pomace ?
Yes. Just run it through a lye calculator to be safe with the lye amount.
@@Annie-er7ep TY :-) This soap looks so creamy for baby I'm going to try it. I'll run it through the calc.
Hi! Thanks indeed for this amazing tutorial. If I choose to use an essential oil what will be the measurement for this batch.
Thanks in advance.
Oatmeal and honey 🍯 fragrance oil.
Great video
what is the curing time for this soap ?? pls reply as im beginner and also want to do it for my baby
Can standard olive oil be used in this soap?
Can I also add honey to this recipe? Are there any thing to account for it?
1tsp. Honey
Did the soap in this particular demo go through gel phase or what were the darkish spots in the small end?
This soap didn't gel! We left the soap at room temperature. I believe the spots were just a bit of soap leftover on the cutting board. You can gel it if you like. Either way works fine. =)
Read more about gel phase here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/gel-phase/
I really love your videos x
Thank you Sophie, that means a lot to me. =)
Just curious how long this takes to cure. and where do I find the full recipe to try?
The recipe is in the description under the title. Tap the 🔻.
can you use those additives-clay and oatmeal in melt & pour?
You can! I would recommend mixing 1 teaspoon of both into 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol. Then, mix well and add 1/2 dispersed teaspoon at a time. =)
See how to use clays in this melt and pour tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/2qwgbt59L9Y/v-deo.html
Soap Queen TV thank you!
Wow! I was was wondering the same thing! Thank you so much.
Can the ingredients be used with melt and pour soap?
Yes
Thank u very much I liked it
Thank you for watching!
