It’s been weeks trying to find a real solution for this problem. None of the forums helped. Thank you for exposing the drain vent in the wheel well.. I’m getting seepage where the line goes through the actual trunk (not the convertible storage lid) to that final spot. It has drove me crazy as I live in Washington state.
Ok we have a 2008 335i with 94k original miles on it. Its been in a garage 98% of its life. I bought a new Shelby Mustang, so that went into garage and the Beemer was parked out in the driveway. Low and behold, I discovered the radio crackling one day. Did some you tube searches and located where the amp would be in the car, bingo the trunk. I opened the trunk lid and the inside floor cover and found 3-4 inches of water inside trunk, submerging the amp. Took it to the dealer, mistake, they sucked all the water out, and said i needed to replace the rubber inside the trunk lid. I did that on their advice. A few weeks later the same problem. I put the Beemer back into the garage and dried out the trunk, Problem temporarily solved. Found your video, i think that's my problem.... Will find out soon. Hats off to you for posting this. Love driving the Beemer, but it's a pain to fix anything cost wise..... Raj Johal, Bellevue, WA.
Thanks for posting this. Currently have the same issue on my E93. Trunk is soaked only on the right side. Glad I caught it in time before electrical damage. Still not sure why BMW designed the drains this way. They don’t need another reason to break ha ha
Thanks for the tips - I have an old 97 Z3 but am sure the drains are similar and saw a link below. I used a tip from another post to run a thick weed/grass trimmer cable down my fuel compartment drain to clear it and that works great and is now part of my annual maintenance routine. Saw vids for missing clips on convertible top flooding under the seats, but there are also trunk leaks that seem to fill the trunk.
On my e93, I use a trombone cleaner to clean my front drains (which run down the front A pillar trim), works perfectly. Going to be cleaning the rear drains soon

I use a welding Mig wire and just poke thru it from above this way it's a lot faster to unclog the system. And than I put a little spray of simple green. It will break down the scale over time and keeps it clean. CLR might work too but is extremly harsh to metal. It keeps those lines longer clean to drain your car proper.
Thank you so much for this. Mine has overflowed twice and I didnt understand why since I blew water into it before to clear the debris. I think there is too much crude which builds and needs to be cleared properly.
how do I access this drain hole on a 2000 Z3 E36 roadster. I get water in my trunk too. When I pour water in the drain area, it pours out in more than one place underneath the car.
I have water building up in my battery compartment dealership says they don’t know where it’s coming from I find this hard to believe your video just explains how water could get into bottom of car why do they not know this or do they so far paid $380 diagnostic $360 water test to see where the water coming from they say my fuel pump is damaged because of the water under car 😢
Any easy fix for a similar problem in the E46 convertible? As you know the drain holes are placed in very inaccessible locations to do what you did here... 🤦🏻♂️
It's part of the drain system. When it rains, the water will run down the convertible top into the tub and down the drain. When the drain is clogged, the water backs up into the car
@@EliteMotorWorksFL Thanks very much. It seems that the drains are ok, or at least the BMW agent said it was, however, they have offered no solution to solving the problem, so i'm really taking notice of folks like yourself and I'll sort out the problem myself. They gave me incorrect information in an attempt to sell me a complete new hoodm saying that the seals were an integral part of the hood! They gave me duff information, and with no change in facial expression!!

Where are the drains on the E91 touring? Thank you very much, I think I might have some water in the 5th door.
I use a wet and dry vac to suck the crud and water out. A maintenance job when I'm changing snow tires.

There is a good video - just type in
BMW 645 water in boot electrical problems
More to the point, why is it getting into the boot in the first place?
Matinee Martyr the drain is clogged, so the water can’t escape. Instead the water fills up and overflows into the boot.
