Tip: do not get ornaments that look like birds. We did that one year. We had a brain wave to do a bird-themed tree. We had a live pine, and went to the local crafts store to get as many bird decorations as we could. The tree looked GREAT... ...until the next day. Three cats quickly denuded every last plastic birdie from the tree and destroyed most of them.
I own 40 years worth of collecting vintage and antique ornaments AND I have 4 kittens right now, and so I think this may be the year of having no tree.
I like to make origami ornaments. The figures are firm, not flimsy, they sit in the tree well, and if they should be knocked out of the tree, the don't get messed up, even if my cat bats them around a little. So far, I haven't had any casualties with my 4' tree, my cat, and my ornaments.
Loved it and intend to put the tips I don't know to use. All my ornaments are unbreakable but I am putting up my first tree (small and narrow) in 12 years, so 8 year old Bobbi cat has never seen one. She is normally a beautifully behaved quiet gal, but a recent relocation may bring out her rebel side. And yes love the Cole and Marmalade Christmas tree clip, have sent it around last year and this!
I have a slim tree too. But, she knocked it over last year. 😺 Going to try the bags of dirt around the base this year. Thanks. I also use ping pong balls as ornaments around the bottom of the tree. They get painted and then glitter, even push some lights into them.
erin i have a problem with my hamster zippy and cream they two are always fighting they two get hurt so bad and cream is pregnent and gave birth two today morning i woke up and saw zippy his skin have a hole and it is alive and creams face was full of blood so i seperated them but what should i do to make them stop fighting if i didnt stop them they will fight till death
+ushanandini b Not all dwarf hamster pairs work out sadly, sometimes their personalities just don't work. However, you should not have had two different sex hamsters living together in the first place, it was an irresponsible thing to do. Take Zippy to the vet immediately and do not put the two back together again. If the pups survive and you decide to keep them the males must all be separated from the females at 4 weeks old.
Hi Erin! So we are thinking of getting a kitten around Christmas, (adopting) and I was wondering if you think there is any difference between males and females when it comes to other animals. We have a dog and I have a rabbit, and that's why we would probably need to get a kitten because then it would maybe be easier for it to adjust to the other animals? I don't know. We had a car before, but she was super mean, and always stayed in the basement, so this was never a concern. If we got another cat, we would want it to be able to be "friends" to a certain point with the other animals in the house. If you have any tips, that would be great! Thanks!
+Purplesnowball 13 From my own experiences I've found that both males and females can get along fine with other pets provided that they are socialised regularly from a young age. The most important thing is to interact with the kitten as much as you can every single day and have the other animals interact with it regularly too in a calm environment. Some kittens can take longer than others to come around to new people and animals but with enough patience it should work. Cats don't usually get stuck in their ways until after about 6-8 months old so getting a kitten that is younger should make things easier, just be warned that kittens under 4 months old can be hard work to clean up after since they are still in their "baby stage". If your adopting from a shelter then the staff may be able to recommend a more social kitten for you or one that came from a home with other animals in :)
Erin plz HELP I had 3 rabbit's I is male to female one female died and the male is depressed he has the other spayed female though he won't move or eat!????
I can't put up a tree because my puppy would eat anything, and I mean ANYTHING that falls of the tree. She also would play with the glass decor and balls, we encourage her to play with her toys balls but she wouldn't know the difference. We've thought of putting a puppy pen around it but it would be by sofa where she could jump down. Any ideas?
+Go Pet Pals You could always get a table top tree for a couple of years and place it up out of her reach, it might not be as exciting as a big tree but it would be better than no tree at all! Other than that I would suggest putting the tree up with no decorations on for a week or two and in the time training her to keep away from it. Add the decorations when you feel she is getting the idea and then keep up with teaching her to keep away, she'll get the idea eventually. You can also use wire to attach the decorations more tightly to the tree so she can't pull them off and avoid using any breakable items like glass. I expect she will grow out of the behaviour once she is a little older. :)
I really hope you answer Erin , I know hamsters have sent glands on their hips and my hamster has wet patches where I think his sent glands are at least once every other day. I just wanted to know what was happening and why it was
+nothing interesting It's normal for the scent glads to be a little wet but if you are really concerned I would suggest posting a photo of the problem on a hamster forum and seeing if anyone there can help you. I've never had an issue with any of my hamster's scent glands doing this, it may be normal but you may be advised to see a vet.
Love your videos Erin! Amalayse is so adorable! I also really love your cats, I have a 14 year old cat called Kadie and she's obsessed with our tree haha :)
Thanks so much for this video. I was just about to give up hope of getting a tree this year because I didn't want to deal with figuring out how to catproof it. Relatedly: I wonder if anyone's made a commercial Christmas tree that both looks great, and is cat friendly...as in, cats are encouraged to climb it.
I have a 5 foot tree and it is very skinny and has flimsy branches and my cat some how gets to the top of the tree and still typs it over even when it is very sturdy, wtryed e to put ornamets where it would hopeflly block the way but it did not block the way for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please if you have any suggjestions please comment them I NEED new idease before i will habe no tree up for christmmas!!!!!!!
The problem with fake wrapped presents under the tree is that my cats will definitely go after them trying to bite and rip them apart. They love playing with boxes!
My only two thoughts 1: be a big shopper buy alot of gifts (esp a few big sized gifts so they cant get too the pine needle bottom to chew or to jump distance wise, they will baracade the area so cat cant get to the tree) 2: id say maybe a cat/dog gate around the tree. :)
i adopted 3 kittens 3 weeks ago and we are getting our tree tomorrow and im so scared they will climb it , fall off and get the lights wraped around there neck 😁😭
Who else has had to use a plushie christmas tree in the middle of summer because you would come home with broken glass all over the floor because their cat destroyed EVERYTHING!
Hello, you are good with cats so I thought you might know what I should do, My friend has been feeding this cat outside of her apartment named Butterfingers. She has been feeding him for about 3 months now and he is used to her so she can pet it and all. Butterfingers is still just a kitten. Unfortunately, she is moving apartments at the end of this week, and cannot take Butterfingers with her. Which is a problem because since Butterfingers was only a kitten when she found him, his mom had only probably just let him go into the wild so then she started feeding him. And now that he is used to her feeding him then he might starve and I don't think he knows how to hunt anymore. But my friend is convinced that he will survive in the wild, but she hasn't owned a cat before. I've been trying to convince her to bring him somewhere and neuter him but she is like, "I'll try to come every Sunday to feed him." So technically he would be going from being fed twice a day to once a week. And she might not even be able to get into her apartment anymore! Butterfingers is very tame, he allows you to pet him and he will rub against your legs every time he sees you. He loves humans! PLEASE HELP!!!!!
+Ashley E. She should take him to a rescue centre or put an advertisement out for someone to take him in, there are lots of people who work with feral cats who might be willing to help. The problem with feral cats is unless you are planning on keeping it or caring for it for the rest of its life (or at least finding it a home) then you shouldn't feed it. The kitten may not have developed necessary hunting skills due to relying on humans feeding it which could potentially lead to it starving or becoming a pest to other people who may not be as kind to it. Cats have to be fed often and going a week without food will not be an option for the kitten, it will try and find food elsewhere and this could get it into a lot of trouble. Also as far as the law is concerned once you start feeding the cat regularly it is your legal responsibility and leaving it behind when you move constitutes abandonment, your friend could find herself in some serious legal trouble with animal control. I totally understand that she was doing a really good thing for the kitten which is wonderful and she clearly has a good heart and good intentions but she need to find the little guy a home before she moves.

After a few days of settling in you have to start taming your hamster which can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to several months you just need to be more patient with her :)
Nothing in the ingredient list jumps out as being dangerous so I believe it should be safe. Just make sure that if it's a big treat you break it into smaller pieces and don't feed it all at once :)
Thank you so so much for putting my picture at the end ( mine is the one with the white dog in the Christmas jumper )xxx keep up the good work and I love yr videos they are so so helpful xxx happy Christmas 🎄🎄🎄

Hi Erin! Great video I'm getting a kitten (although not at Christmas time) but it is good to know! Has anyone told you, that you look like Caroline Flack? The resemblance is quite similar:)
+Animal Fanatic Not if the cat is ok with it. Some cats refuse to live indoors and it can be stressful for them to be kept inside all the time but many cats are fine with it and it's actually a safer option especially if you live in an area with traffic or lots of houses. If your cat wants to be free range then let it but if your cat is happy to stay indoors and you want to keep it indoors then there is no reason why you shouldn't :)
omg this is sooo hilarious! ahaha... your video is not hilarious... but mom and dad hqve been like thinking of not getting a chrismas tree this year (because ve got a cat) thank you soooooo much erin!
Well then I’m great full I now have a smaller house This will be the first Christmas for me and my Missy and I have no choice but to get the slim tree But instead of electric lights I’m going for battery ones since the horror video I looked at a woman’s cat was electrocuted on plug ins
Wonderful video! I have had cats all of my life and have been very fortunate that none of them have climbed the tree or knocked it over. The only thing my cats have ever done is play with the ornaments and lick the tree.

The other one loves to chew on the tree branches & drop the ornaments. Every single morning I’d find ornaments all over the floor & the branches broken off... praying that this year is less stressful with your suggestions my husband warned me about getting cats & he truly didn’t want any & now I understand why should’ve thought about it twice. Hey Erin
I'm thinking about getting hamsters and I live in America
Where should I get my hamsters?
Thanks
I adopted one from my mom's friend. Try checking on craigslist or a local shelter :)
I have a short, thin tree, and my cat climbs up my record player and jumps on to the tree. Nothing works.
Thank you for featuring my hamster Mithrin 😊 the one under accioalfred is my hammy ❤
Hi Erin! Lovely and helpful video! I will try some of this out with my cat who loves chewing our tree XD

My dog already eats most of our decorations so I wonder what will happen with our kitty
My cat climbs my Christmas tree and it's so hard to get him down because he always ends up sleeping/ I need this video

well we just put up our christmas tree and my little ball of fur went climbing on it and tipped the whole thing over....
Might as well not have a Christmas tree at all or have no cats .....no charlie Brown tree in my house EVER!! LOL
Who else has had to use a plushie christmas tree in the middle of summer because you would come home with broken glass all over the floor because their cat destroyed EVERYTHING!
Does this apply to small dogs
+Derpy Channel Not entirely, dogs don't climb trees so it's not something you have to worry about.

WHAT SHOULD I DO????

I baught a treat that has tomato, marigold, parsley, squash, petals, red paprika and kernels is it safe?
+ErinsAnimals its called "little one-vegetable pizza"

+Red Scorpio Productions You can already find lots of DIY treats and toys on my channel :) As I said in a previous video since Amylase is very old and doesn't play any more we're just going to give her a plate of treats as her Winter Fest present, maybe you could do the same for your hamster as a Christmas present :)

Hi Erin! Great video I'm getting a kitten (although not at Christmas time) but it is good to know! Has anyone told you, that you look like Caroline Flack? The resemblance is quite similar:)
I'm REALLY scared. We just rescued a cat a couple months ago, and pounces at EVERYTHING! She's not de-clawed, and it's her first time!
That's what cats do and de clawing is cruel
That's what cats do and de clawing is cruel
Please never declaw your cat.
I know! It's really mean! I would never do it :) I love her little painful claws ;)

omg this is sooo hilarious! ahaha... your video is not hilarious... but mom and dad hqve been like thinking of not getting a chrismas tree this year (because ve got a cat) thank you soooooo much erin!
My biggest concern is the presents sence the tree is safe
0:35 i cant keep mah hands to myself
My cat loves to climb the tree
Well then I’m great full I now have a smaller house This will be the first Christmas for me and my Missy and I have no choice but to get the slim tree But instead of electric lights I’m going for battery ones since the horror video I looked at a woman’s cat was electrocuted on plug ins

Wonderful video! I have had cats all of my life and have been very fortunate that none of them have climbed the tree or knocked it over. The only thing my cats have ever done is play with the ornaments and lick the tree.
My cat is always in the Christmas tree
This helped so much!!
Quick question : Can hamsters eat poached egg? :)
+Kate Park As long as it is only poached in plain water with no salt/butter/oil/flavour then yes they can have a little egg white :)
+ErinsAnimals ok, thank you :)
I heard Lizzie purring
